Hi Guys, I am a PhD student in one of the second tier universities in the US, but due to my research interests I have planned on to move to University of Queensland in Brisbane Australia. The contract is for 3 years. The program is fully funded and have 100% scholarship on tuition. I also checked the world ranking on my program and it falls under 23rd position as compared to the position of my current institution which is 300 something. My questions to you folks are: a) Is it OK to move to Australia from the US (Note: I do not have any plans to settle in so called developed country in future) ? b) What are the cons and pros? (please do me a favor by listing them) c) Would I be able to survive on 25-30 thousand tax free dollars in Brisbane? d) How easy is it to bring dependent/spouse to Australia for student enrolled in a PhD program? Hello H2S, I have been reading ur posts for a while. Your thoughts swing way around from goat farming to University of Queensland. At the end of the day, all it matters is what you wanna do ultimately in the future. Its good to have lots of options, but sometimes these options get urself into the puzzle. Sorry for not being helpful; but, since ur enrolled in PHD program in US institutions, I believe u definitely have those potentials, even if u decide to return back home. Hi Mrbored, Thanks for your input, and I do agree with you in all points. My main concern was with the time required to complete PhD (6-7 years from my lab) as to 3 years in Australia. The research program I have been accepted there is in personalized medicine (which I think will be the future of medicine) and that made me swing my thoughts again :)

PhD.....6/7 years.... reasearch in Lab all day....hmmmm unless that's your true interest, is it worth it ? go into IT filed that makes you more money...buy a house,, kids,, relax your life.. why bother with so much tension with your small brain ?????? I mean life is short....enjoy guys........relax chill
