Hi Friends, I bought a used 2011 Toyota from Toyota dealership a year ago. I made a down payment of $1000 to the dealer. After couple of weeks I got laid off and could not even make a first payment on the car. After, about two months car was repossessed. After, a week I see that the dealership reported and inflated the the amount of $8000.00 on my credit, while my monthly payment was $300.00. I understand they must have kept repo cost , and fees etc. The amount that I owe to the dealership would not have cost more than $2000.00 including everything. Not only they took my down payment they also reported wrong amount on my credit. Friends, please suggest your expertise on my situation. Should I contact a lawyer? What shall I do? Thanks in Advance

Damn dude, you fxxxed up your credit for a mere $300 car payment. A gas station job for a couple of months would have fixed it. Yet, you chose otherwise. Not that I judging you, but its ridiculous from my point of view. Anyways, you can negotiate with your creditor about payment options. Tell them you wanna pay ... amount but you want it totally removed from your credit history (not as paid in full) but as it never happened. IF you can't settle with the creditor, dispute with the credit bureau. Good luck!!!

"Not that I judging you" goes on to judge the dude.

Thanks, Furke and BadhiJanne for your reply. Furke, do you think it would be better to hire a consumer protection lawyer to help me out with my options? BadhiJanne, what is your opinion on hiring a lawyer or how to go about in in my situation? Dhanyabad.

See now you gonna spend more money hiring the lawyer..what was the full cost of the vehicle? They will or already have send you the notice that they will sale your vehicle at auction. You can go there buy back your vehicle or just wait for it to get sold. Whatever the difference is from the sale and original amount, you will be billed for that.

So they were lenient, gave u two months and u still couldnt find a job? How r u planning to pay for ur lawyer if u cant even pay 300 a month. Just wondering. If i were u I would put all my effort on finding a job and pay that off. Work with them, am sure they will reconsider fight with them? U r screwed bigtime.

First thing is did you save the invoice or any documentation regarding the purchase of the car? Do you have any documents on the payment you made to finance? Right there you'll have an idea of what you're payoff amount is. Ask for proof of charge regarding the repo. They have to provide that to you. Then you can do the math and negotiate/work with credit bureau about paying the corrected/reasonable amount. With all do respect...."you're ppphhhuuuccckkkkkeeedddd" in regards to credit score....but instead of getting phucked by two pricks you're only gonna get phucked by one prick...and i did say "with all do respect"!!!

Don't be scared of the credit report thing. Call them or more professionally write to them with a registered mail and keep copies for yourself. Request a proof of the credit / repo invoices. Your credit is for sure down the hole for now but don't worry it will stay there for only 7 years. I was in a similar situation once but in a smaller hole. However i got lucky ..the creditor started calling me at work and that is illegal illegal , the creditor also renewed the original date of the credit to a current year which is also illegal. How much did you pay for the car btw.

fdpower, What did you do to take it off from your credit? Jabless, they have not sent me any notice of sale. it was couple of year back, so I am sure they have already sold the vehicle. However, I have not got any notice yet since my car got repossessed. I have not paid anything except $1000 down. *********I know better if I fucked or not guys, please comment if you have any suggestion or advice..****** Last edited: 18-Feb-16 04:24 PM Last edited: 18-Feb-16 04:27 PM
