Well landing a job may not be that diffcult - depends how much you know and how much you tailor your resume (most IT placements seem that way, except few). The required skills in data science are : - data wrangling and transformation (highly required) - statistics (can be moderately skilled to begin with) - visualization (can be moderately skilled to begin with) - making inference , which is the final product delivered by a data scientist for making business decisions So, taking some courses might help to begin with. Then its about how much you know about each of the above skills to keep your job. Some companies and managers might be willing to give you time to learn on the job, while others might not. Above all the skills statistics is the hardest lo learn, and it also really takes significant amount of time to build correct inferences based on the statistics you do. Best of luck !
