Do they claim to have an AC in the transit area? If they do, does it work to save a life? Yes, even TIA has that... I guess.... - Attitude of custom officers and/or airline personnel? How costly are their tantrums, if any? How much does a cup of tea cost for them? Depends who on duty and how well they know you. Chnaces r high that there would be a corrupt guy, who would know where you are comming from; Esp if  you dont have a indian looking face, then its better to go through HK, SQ, BKK, China. You can get a good brakfast/lunch/dinner for as little as IC 100. - Can you check out from the airport, rest in a motel and comeback after a few hours of sleep? If so, how early do you have to be at the airport before the departing flight? I guess there is an airport hotel. There is also a central hotel around that should cost around $100 a night. Check with travel sites and see if you can get a deal. 2 hours used to be the standard rule of thumb, but if you are late then chances are they would give the seat to someone on the waiting list for a little cash. - How much does an average motel room, not too far from the airport, cost per night? Check above. - How generous are the cab drivers ( aka robbers)? Do they spare "chaddhi/baniyaan" in case(most definitely so) you are stripped? People (tourists) have been murdered by Delhi cab drivers for cash and luggage(its rare, but true), so forget about chaddi and baniyaan if you get into a situation. The good news is, the airport hotel is not that far away and you can take a prepaid taxi found on the right hand corner of the arrival gate. Give them the exact address and they will charge you the exact fare. You can always tip the driver after the trip. They will have records on which cab you took, even if you get murdered (the good news). Comming back is a diffrent storey. 1)Make sure that you give an additional hour of tour time for your driver so that they can force you to see Delhi on your way back so that they can pump up the meter. 2) Make sure you report back an hour before the counter opens so that you can get atleast one seat on the craft. Moral of the storey: Why go out if you have just 8 hours? Give or take 2 hours of commute time. 3 hours wait time before the flight. Thats 8-5 hours = 3 hours of sleep time, if you are lucky. Bigger Moral. Avoid India and the Middle East. Find a better route.   JAI NEPAL
