Earthquake can struck any second ,any place leaving thousands of people dead.  Kathmandu city has been considered as one of the most earthquake  vulnerable city in the world.Approximately every 75 years, Kathmandu is impacted by an earthquake of magnitude 8.0. A strong scale earthquake is due to strike Nepal anytime. Kathmandu hasn't seen a major earthquake in the last 76 years. The larger the time gap (between quakes) the larger the quake is going to be. Kathmandu is built on the soft sediment of a former lake bed which contribute to the high risk level. With the never ending unstable political situations, dense populations, poorly constructed buildings, no open spaces and the lack of basic necessities such as electricity & water, Kathmandu possesses all the ingredients needed to put together, result in one of the worst human disaster in the history of mankind. Fatalities could be on hundreds of thousands.. Nepalese all over the world would grief on the deaths of their loving ones back home. Lets pray that would never happen. But we can't just simply evade the possibilities. The Government of Nepal, woefully unprepared in extreme shock, would totally fail to response & provide essentials basic needs in the aftermath of a disaster. The only lifeline for supplies and rescue teams for Kathmandu will likely be the small, single-runway airport and it is believed the only three roads into the city would likely be destroyed in a major quake. Water, electricity and fuel supply would probably not survive the first wave of tremors. Few of the hospitals and government buildings could withstand a major quake. It is very likely that the majority of housings, buildings & structures would fall apart and damage will be colossal. It would be decades before the country recover completely. This massive disaster can push under developed country back into the Stone Age. It would take  enormous efforts  to rebuild the torn country. But wait, many lives can be saved if appropriate life saving techniques are learned. What we can do is be aware of the danger, teach your family what to do and not to do during earthquake and be prepared to protect yourself and make a disaster preparedness plan.
