Turkish Airlines recently started their 4 days a week flight to Nepal. Anyone who has travelled to Nepal in Turkish flight, can you please share your experience? Thank you.

Particularly the one at Istanbul on your return. I have my travel date coming up and I have not submitted visa application to Turkish consulate.

I had a pretty decent experience flying Turkish about 2 years ago. They didn't have flights to Nepal, so Delhi was the closest I could get (with them). I did have a little bit of difficulty communicating with the airport staff as most of the ones I encountered were not able to understand and respond in English, and I needed to get a boarding pass replacement as I had misplaced mine. I managed to make my way through them to the right person, but they all seemed helpful and concerned (to at least understand the issue)!

The flight to India felt like flying on an Indian aircraft. The in-flight entertainment options, food menu, people, the smell; and the overall atmosphere was very different (more 'Indianish'). Nothing wrong with that, just felt and seemed such!

Since Istanbul is in Europe, make sure you do some research around the duty-free liquid purchase policy (if they still have it enforced). I had a terrible time in Brussels on a different trip. I've been trying to stay away from Europe stops since then..

There's nothing else remarkable or worth mentioning from what I remember. So, take it easy - and enjoy the travel!

BTW, Istanbul looked stunning from the sky.. :-)

I am sharing my experience with Turkish Airlines here.

I traveled to Kathmandu from IAH to KTM on Turkish. Overall, the experience was good.
The service was good, seats were ok and food was nice. Istanbul Airport is much more crowded than any airports I had been to.

I reached TIA in the morning. TIA was cleaner than before. Most officers were courteous than before. But notice that there are no pens to fill up your immigration forms. Take one with you on your hand carry. Baggage came within an hour of landing, nothing was stolen and was unopened. But domestic terminal was nightmare.

The 23+hr transit in Istanbul during return was interesting. I had a Turkish visa taken in advance. But I noticed several Nepali citizens with (US Green Card or Visa) managed to get Turkish visa on arrival. Their website does not mention that. TA provides free hotel service, if you can cross passport control & custom check. If not there is place to sleep. The hotel was nice (mine was WOW at Convention Center) about 10 minutes from airport. The room had a mini bar but I did not use it. Shuttle to & from the airport and breakfast was included. Breakfast had wide variety of items. Metro line is within minutes from the hotel. I visited Blue Mosque are and bazaar. Food was cheap in Istanbul than Kathmandu and people I encountered were more helpful than anywhere else.

Both 777 ER and A330 had entertainment system at each seat.

The best thing about turkish airlines was the "promotional fare" and that's about it. And enjoy while it lasts. I think it is set to end soon and the flights are being curtailed from US in general.

Hailed as the Europe's best airlines, I was disappointed with the customer service. My experience didn't get off to a good start with almost an hour delay in the US airport that included a action-packed fight between one of the passengers and the control officer (both turkish). Even more surprising was the attitudes of the flight attendants and food was OK on flight. I assumed this was an exception but you'll realize it is pretty much the cultural attitude, which I realized after reaching Istanbul. Guys, our own TIA has free WIFI, Istanbul doesn't and there are no free internet booths. Istanbul was not only crowded but there was hardly any resting area compared to Dubai and other Asian airports. And by far, this is the most overpriced airport I have ever been through (A can of coke and tea cost $10 dollars. i was lucky that I was only there for a few hours.

And with this promotional fare rush, the agencies in Nepal have totally screwed the flights for those taking economy flights from Nepal. I don't know if they overbooked passengers traveling from Nepal, they couldn't confirm the flight for one of my relatives even after booking the flight. Surreal.

I guess seeing that Messi's and Kobe's ad, I had a much higher expectation for turkish airlines.
