Hello guys,
I need to unlock my iPhone 4S that is currently not is use. It used to be Verizon before it was deactivated when I got a new device.
Planning to send it as a gift to my little niece in Nepal.
I would truly appreciate your advice.

if you are a current Verizon customer, call the customer service and they will do it for free.

Don't we like the word "FREE" :)

Thanks SQ,
My Verizon number is now in my new device. That's how it got deactivated. So do you think they still treat this device as their equipment and unlock it?

Tell Verizon that your are going to use the old one in Nepal , therefor you need to unlock it.( do not want to use and bring new one ). Come with good story followed by logic, a good white lie ( you are not harming any body and not gaining anything rather than making old iphone usable in Nepal) will make any thing is possible.

By the way " why did not you think about it" before getting new one?

I didnt know cdma phones can be unlocked. I have 2 old verizon phones needed to be unlocked if thats possible but I highly doubt it. At&t phones can be easily unlocked since they can be used anywhere in the world but cdma? Are there cdma provider in nepal? Are u sure guys u can unlock verizon phones?

No, verizon and few other carriers use cdma technology meaning they don't have slot for sim cards whereas in Nepal most of the ppl use GSM based service meaning they've sim slot on their phones. I was just snatching my hair off to figure how the heck is it possible that verizon CDMA phones can be used over GSM service in Nepal? I think ppl are mistaking it for AT&T's locked phone which uses here same GSM technology as we do in Nepal.

If you see the right edge of the phone there is a small hole and a slot currently covered. As I was looking through some youtube videos, they called it Simcard slot and did open it up with a small pin.

Check this video out https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7yWVyBnkDNI

He keeps saying it's a Verizon phone. I don't have Gevey sim as he says and not sure if it works. So wondering if others have done this before.

Unlocking was legally punishable but just few weeks ago I read it turned opposite. Why dont you call verizon and ask them to unlock it? They should do it as per new law.
