I worked for an Indian consultancy. Since it was my first project with them, I got my 2019 salary in Jan 2020. Now, the confusion is: they didn't include the tax money for the project because they paid me in 2020 but I only worked for them till 2019. They said they can't add that on my w-2 because they paid me in 2020. I am confused because if I file my tax next year and claim this work for 2020, it's actually not true. Please share your suggestions or if you have any experience/knowledge.

You pay your taxes on the money you make not the work you do. Since income is from January, you will have to fill this next year.
