Chaos, Committees, and the Usual Curiosities

Good Morning, Nepal!

1. Rabi’s Legal Tango: The Charges Shuffle
Rabi Lamichhane has secured court permission to amend the organized crime and money laundering charges against him, proving that in Nepali law, even "organized crime" is just a flexible concept. Four district courts have now given the green light for this legal gymnastics routine, leaving only the classic cooperative fraud charges standing firm. It’s a masterclass in staying relevant while your legal team works harder than the actual government. Maybe next time, they’ll just amend the charges right out of existence for good measure.

2. The Grant Ghost Hunt: A Decade of Missing Millions
The government has finally formed a five-member task force to investigate a decade of agricultural and livestock grants, as if searching for missing money in the bureaucracy is anything more than a glorified treasure hunt. Led by a joint secretary, this group has six months to report back on where exactly those billions went—presumably into the pockets of "farmers" who wouldn’t know a tractor from a tank. It’s a hopeful sign that someone is checking, but don’t hold your breath waiting for that money to sprout crops.

3. The Kamala River Boat Show: Road to Nowhere
The temporary diversion at the Kamala River has washed away, turning the much-hyped Hulaki road into a classic Nepali water-travel adventure. Since the bridge is still a work of art in progress, locals are now forced to rely on boats to cross what should have been a driveable path by now. It’s truly heartwarming how we build "temporary" solutions that manage to fail at the first sign of a summer drizzle. At least the boat operators are having their best business quarter in years.

4. Locked Down: The Broker and the Businessman
Deepak Bhatt and Sulabh Agrawal have officially added "banking offense" to their impressive list of reasons to stay in Dilli Bazaar prison. Having already been guests of the state for money laundering, the courts have decided they need a little more time behind bars to reflect on their choices. It’s nice to see the judicial system finally acting with some consistency, even if it’s just keeping the same people in the same cells. Perhaps they can use the extra time to plan their next "business" venture—like how to get out.

5. Parliament’s Long Weekend: The Great Disappearing Act
The House of Representatives has adjourned until Ashar 11th, because six days of doing absolutely nothing is clearly exhausting for our elected leaders. Speaker Dol Prasad Aryal has cleared the floor, giving everyone a much-needed break from the grueling task of arguing over bills that never pass. It’s truly refreshing to see the government take a vacation while the country is busy dealing with floods, failing bridges, and economic stagnation. We hope they find some inspiration during their six-day nap.

6. The Pathibhara Puzzler: Another Task Force Takes Flight
A seven-member task force has been formed to resolve the long-standing tug-of-war over the Pathibhara cable car, because nothing in Nepal can be built without five years of shouting and a dedicated committee. Led by Balen Shah’s social development expert, this group is tasked with ending the dispute between those who want progress and those who want peace. It’s an ambitious goal, but in the land of endless protest, we’ll take a committee over a riot any day. Let’s hope they don’t get lost in the mountains.

7. Grade 12 Results: The 70 Percent Miracle
The National Examination Board has released the Grade 12 results, with a respectable 69.75 percent of students passing into the real world. Millions of exam papers, thousands of nervous students, and one big sigh of relief—congratulations to the youth who survived the grind. Now that you've graduated, welcome to the wonderful world of job hunting, where your high score is worth exactly as much as the paper it’s printed on. Best of luck to the next generation of potential migrants!

8. RSP’s "Recall" Rules: The Politician’s Panic Button
The Rastriya Swatantra Party has officially added a "recall" clause to their constitution, allowing voters to drag their MPs home if they aren't performing. It’s a brilliant, chaotic idea that puts the power back in the hands of the people—or at least gives them a formal way to vent their frustrations. It’s a bold experiment in direct accountability that will either change politics forever or lead to a constant, never-ending election cycle. Either way, it’s going to be very entertaining to watch.

9. The Digital ID: Download Your Own Bureaucracy
The government has launched a test service allowing citizens to download their own National Identity Cards online, because why stand in line for four hours when you can struggle with a website for five? You can now grab your QR-coded card via their portal, provided the server isn't busy being on a coffee break. It’s a small, glorious step toward a digital Nepal, assuming you have a printer that works and a patience level of a monk. Small steps, folks—very small steps.
