Pushpa Kamal Dahal, commonly known as Chairman Prachanda or Comrade Prachanda, is the leader of the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist). The party launched the Nepalese People's War on the 13th of February 1996, and through armed conflict now controls large portions of Nepal. Prachanda's extension of Marxism-Leninism-Maoism to take specific account of Nepal's situation is known as the Prachanda Path.

The Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist) or CPN(M) is a Maoist political party and military organisation founded in 1994 and led by 'Chairman Prachanda' (born Pushpa Kamal Dahal). It launched the Nepalese People's War on February 13, 1996, and now controls much of the country. Its main goal is to overthrow the monarchy and replace it with a Communist-style republic. They follow the Maoist strategy of people's war in which they attempt to take gradual control of the countryside to encircle the cities, only fighting with government forces on their own terms when they can significantly outnumber their enemy. In 2001, the Nepalese Army began a military campaign against the Maoists, especially in the western areas of the country, although there have been intermittent ceasefires. The CPN (M) is a member of the Revolutionary Internationalist Movement and the Co-ordination Committee of Maoist Parties and Organizations of South Asia.

Prachanda was born in Western District of Baglung or Pyuthan but later transformed to Chitawan in search of better life with his 3 sisters, 1 brother and parents. Although he had started primary school of rural area, he completed his SLC and I Sc from chitawan. He was a intelligent student and joined BSc Ag. (Bachelor of Agriculture) in Rampur, Chitawan.

Prachanda, according to his friends, is very kind hearted guy. He could not see the People's blood and usually started crying if he saw someone's pain. He could not be able to sleep for 4/5 days if he hurted someone in someways. While at ISC, I started to give his attentions to student politics. He was affiliated with the left wing of the student unions. Many people say, he could not toletare some BIG BOSS who feel other as SERVANTS.... ................ Others are comming... Let me take a small nap

he became the first president of student union at Ag. College, Rampur during his B.Sc. and after completion, he joined some school in Chitwan as a teacher. he has a great talent of exciting/convincing people. he never says: 'you do this/that', and way of involving in people's problem is: 'let's do that'. this is what i heard about him. he might be a good leader, but it seems that he/his party is going to lose all sympathy from people if it continues doing like this. Have you read about his first statement on Feb 1-- "Shahi sena sanga bhayeko hatiyar janamukti sena lai nabujhasamma yuddya ko aago danki rahane chha"? Suppose, he won the match, what does he do with those weapons? kill the people who do not obey him like what Polpot did in Kambodia? Beware of all kinds of DOGS!

thax Galab and chautari for your information. It is amazing, when you see such Learned man like Baburam and Prachanda, conducting radical revolution. IF they were Born king like Gyanendra then i could have understood their want for power, but ppl like Baburam and Prachanda, who worked 10 times harder than avg, gyy living in KTM just to get their education, and their position, corrupt themselves in thier lust for power! indeed! sad :( but one more question, if he study agriculture, where and how did he learn abt Marxism, Lennism??

Dear Sajha Friends, To see the Origin of Prachanda, refer the chart below from Nepal Magazine a few weeks before Khatri Mailo (Gyane) took the complete control over innocent Nepalese.

Pushpan Kamal Dahal, more commonly known as Comrade Prachanda, runs the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist) with an iron hand and has led it in a "popular war" against the monarchy and feudalism since 1995. Hunted by the army, the Maoist guerrillas have killed at least three journalists. In 2003, they cut the throat of a correspondent who worked for the state press agency. Peasant farmers living in the areas under their control are forbidden to listen to privately-owned radio stations
