Hey guys,

looks like there aren't any exciting people in Los Angeles area. I came to this place few weeks back and havent met any neplalese people around. Don't even know how to build a network here.
Any suggestions?
Or, anyone from the area wanna share the secrets?

LA does not suck. Go to nepalese programs. There is an upcoming event sponsored by Friends of Nepal (http://www.friendsofnepal.com/). Try that one. You will meet lots of friendly nepalese.

aafno_manche,

there are a lot of nepalis in LA. maybe not as many as in dallas or dc. if you have lived long enough in LA you must have seen how vast this area is. irvine, oc in the south, riverside in the east and all the way up to ventura county in the north-west. the problem is that since its impossible for a lot of people to drive around due to the clogged freeways, there are small groups here and there. there are nepalis in pasadena, alhambra, riverside, oc, downtown LA etc. i think the area with the highest concentration of nepalis is in artesia (indian town) area. almost every indian restaurant has a nepali working. and there must be about 50 or so eateries there. if you take I-5 south and exit on pioneer blvd to go towards cerritos/artesia you will get there. i think there are less students in LA compared to other big east coast cities. many area colleges have a few nepali students too. there's certainly no dearth of nepalis living and enjoying this awesome weather city!!!

Thanks midwest, looks like you are familiar with the area. I havent been around here for long enough to know all the places you mentioned. I'm dumped towards east of LA close to Ontario. Do you know anyone around this area? I guess the problem is that the area is spread out wide enough and nepalese community are scattered here and there with no fixed pattern of network/communication.

would be nice to meet someone around to start off the network.

ontario is about the farthest you can get to on the east side of LA metro. the only time i've been there is on the way to the millsl and to vegas ;) i think you should not have a problem getting in touch with nepalis in that area (i am sure there are a few there). you are close to riverside, why don't you visit the temple in riverside and inquire about nepalis? from the web: Lakshmi Narayan Mandir 9292, Magnolia Ave, Riverside, CA 92503 Ph 909-359-4743. i am sorry i am not too familiar with that part of the metro. south asian grocery stores can be another starting point.

i think the problem with LA is that unlike smaller metros, nepalis are scattered all over and getting together really requires effort because driving takes a lot of time.

btw, what do you do? will you be around for a while?

Hi midwestdude,
thanks for the info. Will visit the Temple in Riverside. Its been a while since i visited the temple.
btw, I moved here (to Cali) for job and looks like i'll be around for long enuff. But it would be easier to settle in if you meet nepali daju-bhai and didi-bahini to get started.

aafno,

email me with your number, i'll try and pass it on to a couple of active people. maybe that will help you get acquainted. be prepared to drive around in this car hungry metro! i don't play but there's a soccer playing group in pasadena, about 35 miles west of ontario.

Hello Bhakte, mind your language. You seem to be a little immature and a lot more insane. You are trying to picture yourself in your post above. It is a shame to hear those words. You are nothing more than a garbage ready to be dumped in a full of shit.
Infact, LA is a great place, onle few luckiest people do live here. But you dont know these things as are you have wasted mind and useless brain.
