The Difference btn Focusing on Problems and Focusing on Solutions

Case 1

When NASA began the launch of astronauts into space, they found out that the pens wouldn't work at zero gravity (ink won't flow down to the writing surface). To solve this problem, it took them one decade and $12 million. They developed a pen that worked at zero gravity, upside down, underwater, in practically any surface including crystal and in a temperature range from below freezing to over 300 degrees C. And what did the Russians do...??

They used a pencil.

Case 2

One of the most memorable case studies on Japanese management was the case of the empty soap box, which happened in one of Japan 's biggest cosmetics companies. The company received a complaint that a
consumer had bought a soap box that was empty. Immediately the authorities isolated the problem to the assembly line, which transported all the packaged boxes of soap to the delivery department. For some reason, one soap box went through the assembly line empty. Management asked its engineers to solve the problem.
Post-haste, the engineers worked hard to devise an X-ray machine
with high-resolution monitors manned by two people to watch all the soap boxes that passed through the line to make sure they were not empty. No doubt, they worked hard and they worked fast but they spent a whoopee amount to do so.

But when a rank-and-file employee in a small company was posed with the same problem, he did not get into complications of X-rays, etc., but instead came out with another solution. He bought a strong industrial
electric fan and pointed it at the assembly line. He switched the fan on, and as each soap box passed the fan, it simply blew the empty boxes out of the line.

Always look for simple solutions. Devise the simplest possible solution that solves the problems.

Cheers

Nice one! The simplest solution is almost inconspicious to human mind, especially when problems arise, which is the main problem

Frankly speaking i didnt opposed what have been agreed here, but in certain cases there has a contradictory that can be outline here that ironicaly a big company or organisation has a channel about to over come ,alternate or consense matters. Research and Development section in a company for instance will reconstruc problems in a constance period of time to allowed final best outreach in system operations or condition. In a most advance nation like Germany or Japan research will takes years and so much capital been resort to be in advance in open market. The society in most advance country always take the action to response by face the situation rather than alternate to another resource around. That systems make the people and country developed as creativity, research and investment become part of the discipline.

For the second case appllied by rmxyz its very clumsy in a famous and large scale cosmetic manufacturer`s is using rather thin and easy to blow an empty box just like that!!With that big and quality control system operation every section will gone through a strict supervise especially if it involved with health or drug-base consumer items. uNLESS....CAN BE REGARD as an isolated cases....

What is fact here never takes thing for granted or have the easy action by neglect procedure without reason.

For instance if we be in the middle of red traffic lights can we drive away even there`s no vehicle existance, plus no remote camera`s or patrols around? Law is still a law, cant be bothers....cause logicly once can drive through but legally thats the rules, same goes with the NASA, a large sum of R&D is involved but at the end a reverse anti gravity -osmosis ink/pen devices is succesfuly created, scientificly there`s a chemical reason on  method not to switch on carbon`s substances..{ as a pencil mention} in the aeronautical space engineering , likes in a lab, everything must be perfect and configures.

Hence it is much more better for take an effort to pay extras attention on focussing problems rather than face it in a conservative way...

dedications, efforts and extra`s contribution always be part to be victory and success of life in this serious challanges enter of  2008 millineum years....

Hajur....thats from my think of view.
