Will we see these running on the roads of the US?  After the introduction of the revolutionary 157MPG Diesel powered car back in 2006, they recently showcased the electric version of the same which is slated to be launched at the beginning of 2010. It's the most economic/efficient car in the market you can get (if they're gonna sell them for real) both mileage wise and price-wise. The only thing that's bothering me, more so being a southerner, will its 1000-pound light bodyweight be able to resist storms we get here intermittently, let alone twisters/cyclones? hahaha...the design looks quite sleek though. check it out:

German car start-up Loremo made a big splash back in 2006 with the unveiling of their ultra-efficient 157MPG Diesel powered car called Loremo.

Now the company says that along side the Diesel Loremo they also will release an electric Loremo dubbed E-Loremo at launch in 2010.

The E-Loremo would feature a 20KW electric engine which would give the ultra-light car a top speed of 170km/h (~105mph). The E-Loremo is even capable of mobilizing as much as 40KW (55hp) of power for short-term actions like passing.

Loremo did not finalize the battery capacity and the range of the E-Loremo. Plans are to achieve a range of 150-200km (93-124miles).

A first prototype of the E-Loremo will likely be ready as soon as mid 2008.

Loremo will also enter the recently announced Autmotive X-Prize. The task is to build an automobile by 2009 that will go as far as possible with as little as possible. Maximum efficiency at a reasonable price. And not to forget: a serial production should be feasible. Loremo clearly has a chance in winning the X-Prize as they have already been working on a solution for years.

Loremo AG Concept
The concept is refreshingly simple: make an ultra-efficient car that’s light, has exceptionally low drag, and sips diesel with a small engine. This is the Loremo AG, a car that is a combination of innovative technology and back-to-basics thinking. To be shown at the upcoming car show in Geneva, this German creation claims a fuel economy of 157 mpg with no fancy hybrid drive train, fuel cells, or plug in paraphernalia. Weighing less than a thousand pounds, the sporty rear-wheel drive 4-seater is designed to be maximally aerodynamic. The Loremo sports a modest 2-cylinder, 20 hp turbo diesel motor, has a top speed of 100 mph, and does 0-60 in ten seconds. If that sounds like less than elite performance, the anticipated $13,000 price tag should put it in a bit more perspective. The Loremo is due to come onto the European market in 2009

I dont think we can see most efficient car on the street of USA.

It's not that people can't invent most efficient car. But all the highly influencing people in the US government are involved in Gas business. And Gas businees is the most profitable business. Therefore, intentionally, they dont want that kind of car run on their street. Why would they ruin their business?
