Hello all, I graduated in May with a B.S in computer engineering. I have not been able to find a job and I am planning on joining one of the desi consultancies. I have heard horrible stories about these consultancies but some of my known ones have started their careers through these consultancies. I would really appreciate if IT pros of sajha could suggest me any reliable IT consultancy in east coast and the field that is hot right now.

nep_kt,
First of all, why would like to join indian consulting company eventhough you've heard horrible stories? There used to be a time when you get H1 visa easily and find job in IT through these companies. Now, it's a whole different ballgame. To get H1 visa is like winning lottery game and I've seen and heard hundreds of people on the bench who haven't got job for more than a year. Unless until you've graduated from some good universities, it's pretty hard to get sponsored from US companies esp if you're non-immigrant. Most of the companies look for US citizens. And moreover, they now have come up with some wierd OPT rules. So, in the time of uncertainty and risky, why don't you go for masters? I know it's again the financial problem. But, believe me, if you get good scores in GRE and get admitted to some good universities (good in the sense where they've lots of funding), you can get GAship at least from second semester. Do some internships if possible and start looking for job before you graduate.

Yeah... I thought abt going to grad school too but I have not prepared for my GRE. I was thinking may be I could join the consultancy and even if I do not get projects,I could prepare for my GRE. I want to work in networking field. I had networking classes in college and recently got CCENT. Now I m working towards CCNA. If nothing works, might have to start school.

But according to the new OPT rule, hasn't it already been 3 months to either get the job or go to masters? I might be wrong though.

you may not really believe it but in the end it all comes to luck but again i may be one of those fatalist .....
life and indian consultancies are not that bad as they portray. you have to just be reasonable and willing to compromise. its always that you would feel betrayed that someone else is making money on you but again you will have to be happy that you have a job and status and that paycheck because of that same institution.
my personal opinion 1. you have to strive for higher 2. never look at what other makes on you rather realize how much you are making on them
but again my simple suggestion is 1. go for what you really want to do 2. and decide a careear based on your desire than what is hot [ reason being 5 years from this particular moment you would not want to regret your decision. ]
good luck

I have a pdf file of the ICDN 1 and ICDN 2 book for the CCNA and I have the question that will actually come from (I get almost 90 %) of my question from there if you need then you can send me an email on reasondhakal@gmail and be very good on the subnetting part and there will be 4 simulation question and out of that you have to have two question right inorder to pass In my case I get the simulation question of NAT and Frame Relay. I take the test by myself you dont have to worry for the CCNA you will pass if you solve rightly the first 15 question on the exam.
