Just curious if anyone from Sajha user community has been to Canada to get H1-B stamp for 2009. If yes can you please post how long it took, what city and if you are a direct hire or a consultant.

Thanks in advance.

I went to Canada for stamping and waited for around one month to get stamped.

I am a direct hire by University. So, I recommend not to go to Canada.

Better go to home country which is much easier.

I went to Toronto. Interview date was 29th June and clearance obtained on July 21st.

H1B Visa stamping is a little bit lenthy and risky in these days due to recession.

Thanks again bouncing back !! I would prefer to go to Nepal for H1B stamping but i just don't want to go for stamping alone and that too in shorter duration. So i was thinking maybe a week time off would work better if I go to Canada. But seems like it is a time consuming process over there as well. Any other person experienced a long processing time in Canada? how long?

If you do not plan to leave the US anytime soon then i would not advice going to either Canada or Nepal just for the sake of getting a visa stamp. Its perfectly OK to have an expired F1 visa on your passport as long as you maintain your H1 status. going to both Canada and Nepal to get stamped has lots of risk, esp. if your H1 is through agency. Only go if you have to (other reasons besides visa stamping).
