If you live in MA, you can just apply for the medicare and will be approved. There won'e be any cost for you for check-ups, delivery and so forth. The baby will then get the full coverage without a single cent from your pocket. Good Luck!

CrazyHorse don't panic, and even don't show ur fear and sorrow to all (I definately doesn't mean ALL; those who are, they know it) morons here. They don't have anything good to say. Well, somethings in life are unplanned and it just happens. I think it's a good think - a baby, gonna change the whole world for you. I know timing is not right, but hey man, everything happens for reason.

As, someone said above, I think it depends on state. But I know a couple here in Texas, who had a baby, but didn't had to pay penny.

I don't suggest this, and if u think u can handle all the inner feelings of you, - claming that you are illegal, and you don't have means of paying it is one of the way. It's not nepal, like you have to pay everything in first, and doctors will start working. Make sure you get delivery in non-profit hospitals or government hospitals. Provide very less details about you during, if u decided to choose this. Again there are so many ins and outs on this, so do research of ur own.

Some hospitals will cut your expenses upto 60-80% if u able to persue them ur hardships and troubles, and can even arrange for installemsnt payments.

or finally, do insurance and make sure they don't have any hidden conditions on it. these insurance are big time suckers, and when it comes to their time of making some commintments, they usually show their backs.

All the best or say "All IZ well".

Is your (F2)wife enrolled on the dependent insurance? If yes then it will cover everything apart from your co-pay.

If not, What months is she currently running on? If its her 1st or 2nd months then you can enroll her as a dependent on the student insurance (please do not mention that she is pregnant) they will cover her in full. it will just cost you around $192 to 200 for 9 to 10 months. (I guess recent health care reform on Obama administration may not count pregnancy as pre-existing condition with some restrictions)

If that is not possible either then claim Medicare ( I don't know much about it you may or may-not be eligible for it. you may probably get if you show your economic hardship)

Apart from that you can always seek Church's hospitals or Somekind of Social Organizations Health Centers.

Or you can always contact hospitals and tell them that you don't have any insurance and how much they will charge for delivery plus regular checkup. They will surely reduce your price to 3 to 4k depending upon your situation and hospitals policy. Which would have cost your insurance provider 12 to 14k or even more depending upon normal delivery or complex delivery if you would have gone through insurance. You can always remind them that you are going to pay it on cash so that they don't have to do hassle with insurance company.

Should have more options too .............. Seek one or other which one is available and best suits for your situation.

MOST of the states (MA, WA, LA, TX and more) have Medicaid / CHIP perinatal or similar health programs covering EVERYTHING related to pregnancy and childbirth... IF you make below $25,000 (around) per yr. Apply for that even if you have insurance, it covers your co-pays.

Crazyhorse, don't panic, I have been through this. I'm a student too. We applied for medicaid and got it. We didn't  pay a single penny. However, the medicaid terminated when the baby was 6 weeks old. So my suggestion is, go to county health department and apply for it as soon as possible. If you are approved, it will cover the expenses starting from 3 months before the application date. Good luck.

Donot have any idea about this but just follow some  good advices given by sajha users . What i can say is if you are still confused then just go and find Nepalese society  from your state and tell all your problems. It is their duty to help Nepali people. They cannot just let it go. They should take care of you  financially or by giving you good suggestions by saying where to go and what to do. If still it doesnot work, like someone said we can set delivery funds...just keep on updating ...peace...

First of all congratulations for soon to be a DADY!

All have said it all. I live in VA and since you didn't mention what state you live in, I like to advise you to visit your local county health department to visit as Sparty suggested. Me and my wife did visit to the county Health Dpt. when we have our first and second child.

When you tell them all your story honestly, with the supporting documents, they will walk you through what is the next. You will even be able to apply for Medicaid for mother till 60days of post delivery and one year of free medicaid for the new born. Again, it depends what state you live in. However, US health care system provide Free Medicaid to all newborn at least for six months depending on the State.

Hope it will help.

God luck!

Contact the WIC program (Women and Infant Children), as the to be born child is going to be American citizen they do cover. Just go there and explain that you do not have health insurance.
