Greetings,
I have a question regarding minimum time to pass through customs in JFK airport.
We are flying in from Nepal via Hongkong in June, and our port of entry is JFK. We have 2 hours for our next flight to Chicago via American Airlines.
Is two hours enough to claim your baggages, then clear customs, and check-in for the next flight out? I have not traveled abroad in ages, and was concerned.
I will be greatfuly if any one would share their experiences or provide comments :D

Thank you,

might not be enough..coz..jfk is  a busy airport..i was travelling the same route last summer.. and it took me like an hour and half to get off the plane once it landed... and there is this port of entry thing that takes a little while. but dont worry they will fix you another flight..if you miss it..
in my case i was stranded in the airport for about 7 hours..but they provided me a hotel room and a $ 75 worth of coupon..which i could use for food and other stuffs..basically like a gift card. dont panic if you miss the connecting flight..they will take care of you!!

hope it helps!!

Try not to bring any foods.  If the custom finds food they will start checking you bag which will take atleast an hour.  Last year on my way to US I found old Nepali couple on the plane.  They were on their way to visit their son.  Since they didn't speak any English, I helped them filling their I-94 form and passing the custom and immigration.  I didn't know they had some food (gundruk I think) on their checked luggage.  When the custom officer found it she started checking their luggage and asked them question on what was that.  I was trying to explain her but she said since I filled their paperwork my luggage needed to be checked too.  It took an hour for them to clear us by which time I've missed my connection flight and had to wait for 5 more hours at JFK.

It should be tara stay assured. Even if you missed your flight, they will try to book the next flight for you. JFK-ORD currently has a flight almost every hour or two these days. Dhukka sanga aye huncha.

Baru, if you brought Sukuti or Gundruk, bring them in the luggage.

Might be a dumb question, but If I fly in from Cathay Pacific airline, and next flight is AA. Whom would I talk to for re-accommodation?
Thanks,

You mean reschedule? You're gonna be talking to AA, of course.

Dude, Just call AA and try to find another time which works best for ya giving ya at least 4 hrs transit in between.I guess ya dont go to Nepal very often so bring all kinds of food.you dont have to worry about the time. And another important thing to consider, ya may not be late but its a international flight so ya never know.also, from Nepal to New York its a long way and ya prolly will be burnt out so ya may not wanna hurry at JFK. Call AA and change yo time and be cool.
I left like 3.5 hrs and that was more than enough but i considered the worst case scenario.
