A coworker involved in Quixtar called me the other day. He asked if I wanted to add some extra income to what I am making. I knew where he was going with, so I said NO.
Taken aback, he asked me if I don't like extra money, I told him I hate extra money so much, I'd kill it if it were a living thing.

Needless to say he never called me again.

Amway, ACN, Klink, etc are all bogus for endusers who are clueless about what the heck direct marketing is. Those are the select profiteers who are pretty good at marketing and sell it to naive endusers(frustrated and don't see any return) just like you who don't know the jack about it and end up complaining about it in sites and discussion boards like this .

To make things simple, it is a "salesman" job with added comissions if you can hire other sales person to work for you.
The amway agents who approached are trained to tell minimum information or lie at the beginning. If you have outdoor sales experience, you may be able to make money. But the products are exepensive.
You will have to spend money on meetings, motivatioal books, conferences etc. which infact is the major source of income. After all you will be acting as a rich guy with financial freedom from the beginning of your job.
A friend of mine approched me several years ago. I was not interested but he insisted with lots of examples. He told me if I dont' like it I don't have to pay a penny. He took me to some class at first. Where there was so called army colonel giving lecture to a group of 20 or so. There was entry "fee" he paid. Next day he asked me for dinner at his home (he was not that close before). I went and had good dinner. He showed me the water filter .. , vitamins .. and dvd of lifestyle of some "diamonds". Something was suspicious. The way the guy on DVD (it was an Indian from NJ), was how he retired at early age. He insisted me to purchase filter and multivitamins so that I can have health life. Next week he wanted to sell me some motivational books and CD. At that point I informed him that I dont' want to be part of it. The following week he wanted me to take to some big seminar and make my final decision. He persisted.... I went The guy on DVD was there hundreds were around him, who were eger to take picture or just shake hand. We returned and I told my final decsion and returned all his books, dvd, a file :) . .. He fussed at me ... asked for money. .. WTF. We setteled some number it was less than $100. Then onwards we never talked again. All this happened withing 4-6 weeks. Even these days I find these kind of guys mainly in WalMart. They ask for my number, I give them (although I already know by appearence). The following eveing they call, I listen to them and I start my own rant until the guy on other sides hangs up. I seriously hate those F*kars . How to recognize - If you see somebody at Walmart on suite at 9:00 PM or over the weekend.... and approaches to for intro..... he is 99.9% Amway Agent. Once I met a guy who acted as a Nepali looking for job in Computers. I wanted to help him but that F*kar turned out be another person lectuiring me how to make extra money, retire at early age and have financial freedom. He never needa a job.

I hope you can make your own decision based on this case study.

I too had similar experience, but not as much as mech had. A family friend of mine insisted me during my first year in the US. I didn't have much idea about this "scam", but I denied because I knew that I was not good at "selling stuffs". Then he asked more family friends to persuade me. Now I was getting pressure from 3/4 different people. Finally I told them that "if you want me to be a member, I'll pay the membership fee (which I believe was 100 or 200 bucks) but that's it, I don't have time to do marketing". Then suddenly it stopped and they never ever asked me again. Then after a while I met an Indian guy at an indian store. He said he moved recently to that place and is making friends and don't know any Indian/Nepali people around. He was "suspiciously" too friendly in the first meeting. He asked my phone no and invited me to his apartment. I never went to his apartment coz I felt awkward to visit somebody right away. Then a series of phone calls came from his side. Finally one day he asked "Would you like to make some extra money?". Then I got it who he was. I just told him "I am satisfied with what I have and don't need extra cash, so please don't call me back".

One of my colleague at work also had same experience. At first these guys are friendly. They invite you to their home for dinner and come to your home. Once good friendship is established, they hammer you with "Would you like to earn some extra cash?"

Bottom line, stay away from this scam.

I got in because I was told I will get a full refund after 30 days if not satisfied; and I didn't want to turn down the "hot date." I waited for 30 days to pass and they never returned a single dime. One experience that taught me to say NO.
