Sathi haru sanga auta sano help and info chahiaayo ko thiyo...
What is the fastest internet speed in Nepal these days? I recently read somewhere that Ncell was offering USB mobileband for 3.0 Mbps but then it has limited usage and seems quite expensive too.

If I want to use unlimited monthly plan (either mobile or cable) what is fastest I can get and is that enough to work from Nepal through VPN.

Is there anyone out there who was worked from Nepal constantly remotely. I am planning to go to Nepal for about 2 months, 1 month vacation and one month I have to work. But then I have to work normal 8 hours shift using my company VPN and connecting remotely to my desktop. If not is there a place where I can go and take my laptop and connect to the good speed internet and work 8 hours in USA standard time.
Or this is something impossible to do @ Nepal.

All helps are appreciated...

NT's 384kbps plan should be good enough. I had 192kbps but it was just so so. May be you also need to worry about getting powerful inverter to power your PC for 8hrs/day.

thank you guys so much for quick respond.
Mercynova, u r right. ncell new mobile USB is fast. My brother-in-law has one from company. but they have such a limited usage plan and is quite expensive. If I am working 8 hours day and using it 8 hours, i will be paying in thousands Rps per day.

Also, I read in few places that during load shedding, NTC is more reliable whereas others are on and off at times.

Janawar Ji, I think we have 2 inverter at house if not may be one powerful. But that will not be a problem. getting something useful is OK.
But do you think 384 kbps is enough? I read somewhere that atleast1.0-1.5Mbps is needed to work using VPN. I might be wrong. I will be working normal 8 hours USA central standard time, and I cannot afford to loose connection inbwtween my work as we are promoting lots of code in another 2 months, and I am responsible for most of the database side.

Anyplace where we can go and use faster internet and pay them daily or weekly  at their location like internet cafe or maybe some office place?

One option for you is to keep your desktop in US apartment turned on. Then, when you are in nepal you simply use Remote Desktop to connect to your desktop in the US which has US connection speed!

Just adding something to wanton and navin's ideas if speed is an issue for VPN : I had used logmein.com (remote desktop) from here to access computer in Nepal. . May be you can install remote desktop software to your office PC and use it from Nepal. While connected with ethernet, logmein also has remote wake up feature in case your office PC goes to sleep or locked. My experience with 192kbps was not so good, but if you get 384kbps connection in Nepal, it might be acceptable.

TY guys....
Wonton sir garne ta tehi ho....tara apartment ko desktop haina work ko desktop ma connect garne.

navingorkhe, I think i will be able to connect. But, I am just worried about the speed and connection Continuity. The only fear is that some of my work includes production hot fixes, and i dont want to get disconnected in the middle of running some code and don't know what happened.

Looks like 'kaam-chalau' huncha....tara i wanted to get ppl insights who have used it recently or is using right now...

Let us all know the tried and tasted solution for this. we all need the reliable solution when we are in Nepal and still need to do work through VPN. It was not a problem in CANADA as I used the free wifi high speed internet connection to VPN but it might not be the same working from 'Saat Samundra Pari' ko desh bata and load shedding is another nightmare.

TY guys, sure I will...tara my plan is initial phase.
I will only go if I have a way to work. If I cannot work normal 8 hours shift and cannot perform at the level of company expectations, then there will be a problem.

TY once again.....

I used NCELL dongle while I was working remotely (including VPN ) from KTM for 3 weeks.  It was an excellent option especially when you are on a conf call including video. The download speed was upto 1.5 MB. Had no issues...and you can work any where in Kathmandu including coffee shops  (that's what I did)

 @Kancho
Could you please elaborate the pricing too? Also, did you you test the speed? Whats the max speed you had gotten?

Is this the one you talking about? 10 Gb for 3000rs plus tax, good for 30days.

Stupida, it is not possible to work normal 8 hours a day shift from Nepal through VPN connection. I tried that last year and failed miserably. Tried NTC ADSL, WLINK cable, Subishu, Broadlink and Ncell. Ncell is comparatively stable than other, but at the end of the day there is nothing but frustration. I would never do it again !

TY guys.
hairybicep, very helpful input from somone he has been there done there. But, do you things things might have changed since then.
My whole concern is same. At the end of the day I need to work 8 hours.

kancho, recently Ncell was introduced 3.0-3.5 Mbps on the go USB internet, but loooking at their usage and price, i will finish that in one day. I will be needing something monthly plan. WHat you mean by "NCELL dongle" ? Is it on teh go internet or wired? And yes what was the price. As 'Rahashya' said, can you please elaborate on this.

go with any fix line like wlink or adsl and ncell 3g as backup purpose,
3g is available most of time but on long load shedding only crap 2g available, ncell cost 4500/- for 20gb for unlimited time period.
you can even buy broadlink wifi connection if its available around your area for extra backup or dial up too, its slow but i have used it some time ago for logmein and its not very bad.

The download speed I got from Ncell was about 1.5-1.8 MBPS...and upload about 500 KBPS - 700 KBPS..
I used Huawei USB dongle with a data card (paid 10000 rupees) and it lasted about 4 weeks (1 week after I left).
http://ncell.com.np/connect/packages-and-prices
I had no issues with VPN or once a day 1 hour conf call.

My back up was Broadlink WiFi but it was only good for email work. VPN just crawled on that connection.
As stated above, Remote Desktop to TS boxes is an excellent idea. I used Logmein to connect to my home machines too..
Email me directly if you need more info.

Hi all,
I saw this old thread from 2012. I am sure lot of things have changed between then and now. Anyone has recent experience working remotely? Which ISP provides reliable/faster connection.  What about data card, as this will provide mobility.  I need to work PST 9-5...
