The intercultural education says, while learning others’ culture you end up learning your culture first. This might be true to some extent cause while sharing cultural information people will realize their own culture and try to find the similarities between to different cultures. Lets not talk about culture here, I have realized more about Nepali culture while learning Finnish culture and here are some weird fact files about Nepali habits that we all know: –

If you are in great hurry to reach office in time and you come out of your house, the other person near to your gate calls you and asks, “Are you going to the office in such a hurry?”, even he knows that you go to office everyday at same time.

After a bit conversation if your friend in a phone keeps on asking “howz other things going on?” that means he doesn’t have any more thing to say and still keep hanging on phone for you to speak.

If you are in a movie theater with a family and happen to meet a person whom you know, he’ll come to you and ask “are you here to watch the movie?”

Do not argue about politics with any Nepali, they are all ahead of you. Don’t even open your mouth in front of government college students, they will teach you how to develop the country, but they all start with cursing the politicians.

Students from government colleges are well aware about country’s situation and well aware in politics, they even have their own idea for country’s development that’s why they keep on possessing strikes to fire tire in the road and hit the stones to the vehicles and police.

If the army is disposing a bomb, people surround the bomb and keep staring at it, when the army says the bomb might explode and kill them all, then they step only 2 steps back. The person at back tries to pull others to see the disposal of bomb from front.

In case of domestic violence, when the husband comes home late then wife curses, “The brain of our politicians are too worse, why have I expected your one to be good”, even though there is no link between him and the politicians.

If someone sees you pissing in the roadside, they will call others to show and say “Look at him, look at him, he is pissing in the road, what a shameless fellow he is”, he acts like as if he have seen anyone pissing in the road for the first time in his life. But if he happens to know you, he will come to you and piss alongside you and say, you started in the road?

If a group of people talk about development in Nepal, they first curse the politician and later talk about building roads and bridges, trains and airports in Nepal. Does the development means only the development of Infrastructures? no one in the group knows.

If you talk about poverty alleviation, then they will say that’s just the wrong thing published by the media, you can see big buildings and expensive cars running in the roads of Kathmandu. They will blame the international media for providing the wrong information about Nepal, they even challenge those medias to come to Nepal and see how we are instead of accepting the fact.

Father hesitates to invest if son comes up with some business proposal, but if the son wants to go abroad they do not hesitate to provide any amount of money.
