Where can one get training in SAP-FICO? I was really interested in this one. I do not have formal training in database or programming but finished graduate school. Is it possible to get this training only and get a placement even if you do not have an engineering degree?

Sheetlab:

I am also trying to be in the same field. I don't have an engineering background but finance and accounting. Infact, to work in functional area, you don't need computer science degree. All you need is the knowledge of accounting and finance to be in FI/CO. E-mail me if you want to speak with me about this.

We can join the same training program. You can check Sulekha.com for consulting firm to find out a training program.

Hope this helps.

You need Finance and Accounting degree compulsarily to get into FICO. You may be lucky to get into it w/o finance degree bu to sustain in it without the appropriate degree will be an uphill task. And never get into SAP for money it is very hard to get the initial break in this field.

This is great. What do you mean by never get into it for money? I am not really after big salary at this point. I would rather learn the skills and try to be competitive in the market. However, do expect a salary that i can pay rent and buy groceries. What do you say?

Looking for career guidance from you guys:

I am computer engineer and have completed MBA from an American University in Thailand last year.

Looking at the high demand of SAP professionals around the globe, I will be joining Masters in ERP in Australia in coming July. This is degree jointly conducted by the university and SAP itself.

On the basis of my interest, I am very interested to develop myself in SAP-BW as a “Business Intelligence Specialist” or any other related title.

Do you think Engineering + MBA + Masters (ERP) – SAP will make me competitive in US job market? JFI, I have worked as IT Consultant for USAID before and working as Administrative manager in Nepal.

Any suggestions from your side is most welcome.

LOVE NEPAL ALWAYS :)

Sheetallb For money i mean Donot get into SAP just because the pay is good. It is not like in early 2000 when there were less SAP guys. Now most of the important SAP operations are handled by company's permanent employees and they look for help of IT consultants in newer areas Like Profit center accounting and CRM which is pretty complicated if you are a fresher. Plus your education abckground plays a big role. Employers now mostly consider people with relevaent MS degree for partiucular submodule. If youwant to do FICO then you have to have a MBA degree, if PP then MS in production engineering. thats what sets you apart from rest of the crowd. Also without fiance degree sustaining in FICO is pretty uphill task.

Most of the consulting companies are bogus and they donot pay well. I have seen my friends who jumped into SAP and they didnot get job for 9 months, even after completing 1 project the waitime for next one is like 3 months. Many have left to simpler software fields like QA and reporting and still making 70K a year.
If you are determined and have patience then SAP is Ok for long run but you need to be prepared to struggle hard at least 5-6 months in job market before you land a job. I am saying that by experience.

Buddiman:
Thanks for sharing your experience. Can you tell us a good consulting firm that would help us provide a good trainig and placement? It would be very helpful. Which module in SAP is easier then?
Are you still in SAP or changed your field? Awaiting your response.
