Here is the thing. Please advice.

My OPT expires on June end. Recently I got in touch with one Indian consulting firm who is willing to sponsor me H1B visa. The chance of rejection as per my consultant is 0%. They will place me in one of the financial or otherwise company (the names were rather fancy haha); the location could be anywhere in the country. They will take 20% cut from my pay for a year and after that I am free to explore my option or stay with them. Regardless they will not take 20% from my cut.

Since I have some experience in the financial sector, I do not have to take any training courses. The catch however, is; I have to pay $3900 to process my H1b, payable upfront.
$2200 for INS.
$1500 for Attroney
And $200 for some processing of some sort.

This $3900 will be paid back to me once I get placed and they will not charge 20% commission until my amount is reimbursed. The chances of placement are very good as well ( Otherwise how will they get their commission re. )

Aba yesto bhancha. I would greatly appreciate if any of you who have gone thru this process can help me out to make a decision.

Thanks.

It's legal to get H1b from consulting firm. And right now the job market is hot.
It will be diffucult to get the money from them month to month. That is a very hard thing to get your own money from these guys.
Don't sign a contract of any kind. you have to be very careful about it.
you will never be paid for your last months salary.
you can apply for your H1b on your own don't need the attorney. you can save come money like that.

Bhole babaji,
What do you mean by "difficult to get money from month to month"? Will they be a tight arse to give us our pay? I thought the other hiring company where we would work would be paying me. Or is it not? Last month's pay pani khancha bhancha. Is it even legal to do that?

They said, the contract will be of 1 year. First couple of times they will not evcen take 20% until my $3900 fees is recovered. After that 20% will be their commission and i would get the other 80%.

I guess i can not apply myself, as the guy told me his attroney has 0% means not even 1 failed cases out of thousands etc etc.

Bholeji/Guys please help me understand the implications and possible complications. My time is running out.

Thanks.

It depends upon your consulting company.
But in general experience it is happening . check out at www.immigration.com

the company you actually work for will pay the consulting company( there may be many middle companies in between). They will then pay you after cutting some money( if there are two you will get 40% or more less).
you will have to do the timesheet every two weeks.
you won't get paid for sick or any time off and most probably no insurance.

but it depends upon your company.

It is not legal to not pay in USA but it is happening. even if they pay you will have to wait a long time.
That is the general experience of the people.

some of my friends worked thru some companies in new jersey..there's one in kentucky and some in delaware...you might wanna look for options before you jump into conclusion...if you are unsure as i were once mba is a better option..at least there's a secong chance after a year or two and there;s always work for mba grad in Nepal ..banks or otherwise...my mba is completing soon..i'm in a boat whether to go forward for phd or look for minor jobs...decisions decisions..i'd rather go be a student if they'll pay me for my education..if you try harder..they'll give you scholarships and money for expenses..with that in mind...there'll be extra years to be a student(in other words party your life away)...

If you're not yet confident why pay the dhotis: well this is one i got from my frens:
the company in kentucky..just call the person..and if you need more we'll figure a way out..goodluck for your endeavours

What's in a mba???? you might ask: Nothing..

you're not learning any better than you previously were..BUT you will have time to use it constructively, any field you're on get yourself certified in programming, i'm doing finance..so i already got the license for series 7, hopping on to series 11 and so forth..so by the time i have my degree, i'll be like a timebomb...lets see which companies can deny me...accounts and finance you never go wrong and so does networking, and system analysts..so choose wise and be passionate..you really don't need to be a nurse to make it big.....hmm just a thought for you to ponder about

Bhole bajaji thanks. I do have some general knowledge about it. Some of the people i know have gone thru it. But they were all IT related fields where as mine is business. Albiet they did not have to pay a penny. Without insurance and with time sheets issues, I guess it won't be any better than the temp jobs promptly available. Although the guy told me they will charge just 20% and rest would be mine. Herau. Sochi rachu. Insurance would be great too.

Hushpuppy, I greately appreciate your suggestions and help.
Yeah decisions decisions. One thing we learn to make and have to make more often than we may find appealing is to make decision in this country. Arrrgg...

I might contact Madhuri Krothapalli, to get the feel on what she has to say. Let's see if she says anything different from my agent Raj. I was rather encouraged to get my series 63 and series 6 by my superiors, when i was about to go perm. Unfortunately, the HR dropped a bombshell; a U.S citizen or permanent resident only. Oh! well.

Now, Accounting or Finance? Accounting has a slight edge I say. That's what the general conception is. What's your take? Decision decision....

( I am still waiting for more suggestions on H1b from indian agencies. NOT IT related job placement. Feri, random office ko generalist kaam ma rakhdela. Help please.)

- Audacious.

Audacious, I am exactly in a same situation, my OPT is about to expire and i haven't found a job that is ready to do my H1-B. By the way how did u find that Indian consulting firm? May be i should try my luck there as well, I don't mind paying lawyers fee as long i can get my H1.
Well if i don't find a sponsor my next option is obviously doing Masters. But i've the same question Accounting or Finance??
I graduated with B.S in Accounting but i am not so fond of Accounting, let just say it's not my piece of cake. So if i don't like accounting, is there a chance that i wont like finance as well, or If i do masters in finance will that be better than Accounting?? Or should i choose administrative majors? God i am so bewildered... please help and advise....

Go for it. My friends got their H1s from consulting companies like the ones u mentioned and their papers were ready within few weeks as they did the premium proocessing. Both of them paid the company's fees as demanded by them, after few months of waiting and trying in their own they were offered nice jobs as well, as transferring you h1 is much easier than finding a job that sponsores you. It will be a good move for you as your opt expires in june,
it is 100% legal and they meet the DHS requirements for employment and visa regulations, Indians are the best in such crookery and they do it so perfectly in a way the rocket science works. Have no second thoughts and go for it.

Meghna,
Talk about blind leading another blind. Not exactly, but close.

I found that firm in some website, I was randomly googling.
Hushpuppy has posted the contact info. of one of such person above. My contact's name is Raj from optima resources. If you would want more info. I can do so. I need to have a talk with him today.

The total fee; like I said is, $3900. By the way, when if your OPT expiring? Mine is at the end of June. Personally, I am tilting towards the grad school. 2 yrs will fly by. Then, it is another day. Regarding which major to choose; administrative majors are rather general; chances are, we won't be having much 'chance' to succeed. Rather accounting is HOT. In fact accountants are most in demand; more than any other majors in general. Then, it is finance. They are almost the two sides of the same coin. Almost, not really though. Thus, Masters in Accounting should be, as good, if not better than, M in Fin.
This is my feeling as per my limited but considerably-thought-out experience.

I do not have any special interest in accounts either. Tara ke garne.Which state you are in? Maybe we both can do the masters together. Haha. Haste haise gardai. Should not be that bad. Sakcha.

I have a phone appointment with the guy in the evening and I still have not made up my mind. Guys, please advice.

Thanks.

Bme2005,
How much did they pay for premium processing? Were they for business related majors? I have only seen many IT related people suceeding in going thru these indians. They say it is just 20% comminsion for a yr. That too they will not charge until I recover my $3900. But bholebabaji says, it could be as much as 60% of my pay that they might take. Business related ma garko koi tha nabhayera alik k garne k jastai cha.

Meghna, they are in NJ and no you need not be in the same state when you are applying ( it aseems so), but they can place you anywhere in states, depending on which client company you might be hired in.
Call this no. 732-429-2314 for Raj. You can e-mail him at raj [raj@optimaresources.com]. Bme2005, could give us the contact info of the agency where your friend applied with. What field are they in?

More info please.

Wiz, finding a job was not a problem, I have gone thru interviews, multiple at times, and later after all said and done, when they were explains my pays, benefits backgroud check etc. They were pretty good companies. Then I tell them, about sponsership. Bang. It's over.
As it turns out business field is unlike others such as where they experiment on hairs, plants, chimpangee, pee, soil, monkey, donkey or teach Nepali or anything. I know, i am being sarcastic here. Well it is just frustuation setting in at times. :o).

Meghna, if you happen to call him, ask him about the pay thingie and insurance. He spoke like a flash when he was explaining that to me. And please let me know about it. A little sketchy? Maybe.

I also inquired to him about H1 transfer, which according to him was rather easy. But hang in there and you would get one. By the way go for accounting both of you. I went for the same.

Like wiz kid said, Monster and Hotjobs are good. I got it via hotjobs. It works. It did for me. OptimaR appeared like a tech resourcing company to me though.

Indis bro,

I think then i will have to consider myself as lucky, they knew everything before hiring me and i told them that they do not need to sponser me but once you are with the company for 5-6 months, you will know everything about that and also they dont want to fire you since you donot have work authorization, what you can do is talk with HR and about the sponcering you. Since i work as an accountant, i know whats going on so it makes my job easier. First you need to go inside and once you are inside the house, it will be lot more easier and also you have experiance also.

Best of luck

Wiz bro,
I was working in this bank, and then I posted my resume on hotjobs. This company contacted me, and everything fell in to place. I am more or less satisfied, but it would not hurt if they can place us in some finer companies. Perhaps expecting too much. Oh... well. That guy though was rather hurried when explaining to me about the percentage factor about the paycheck. Just be warned. Doesn't hurt.

I totally agree with you that first priority is "getting in". Then it is primarily a matter of your own hard work and your luck.

Audacious, thanks for the info, I'll try to call him this week. Well i'll eventually do my masters whether i get my H1 or not. But it would be easier if i had a job, so that i can only take one or two classes rather than taking full credits to be in status. And if the company pays half of my tution it will be "sone pe suhaga". Yeah right, dream on....

I know wiz-kid, Accounting is prolly one of the hot job in market now, but i totally agree with what Indisguise said. I had got several calls from employers but once i mentioned them about sponsoring thing, i never heard back from them. Infact the place I'm working right now is great, they love my work, they also wanted to hire me, but since its a non-profit organization, they had to go through so much hassle and the company decided they wont do H1 or permanent residency. Oh well story of my life. I still have one month to go, let see if i find something... :o(
