We all know that beef is prohibited in Nepal since cow is sacred in Hindu religion and hence Hindus cannot eat beef but Nepalese population is not made of hindus only. There are people of other religion who are not restricted by their faith from eating beef or people who don't believe in religion. Countries like Pakistan have not banned the sale of pork even though Pakistan is 97% muslim.

I am writing this just for argument's sake. I am not demanding that beef should be available in Nepal because I am not in Nepal right now and even if I was invailability of beef would not be so much of a problem. It just seemed illogical to me to ban a food product that is widely eaten all over the world.

out of respect. Muslim don't eat pork because Maohamad said so in other word they just hate pork. Alternate for hate is respect but can not be vice versa if you wanna live in brotherhood. If muslim don't eat pork out of respect there could be an argument by your data, examples but it's not. Hence your argument is like your nickname :)

I have eaten BEEF in Nepal.....recently and some 10 years back!! It was banned[to kill in NEPAL i guess, but packed was allowed], but i guess its not banned now, after Janaandolan-2!!

Pork is HARAM[SIN] in Islam, and I doubt they eat that in Pakistan, I don't know, you might be true, but its very hard to believe for me!!

Importing alcohol and pork products is illegal in Pakistan. (Source: http://www.smartraveller.gov.au/zw-cgi/view/advice/pakistan)

Pork is not consumed in Pakistan due to Islamic dietary laws.
[PIG is considered UNCLEAN, and its SIN]. I remember my Muslim frens telling me, Touching a DOG is a SIN, but they can See it, but SEEING a PIG itself is a SIN!!

Some ppl thought moon is god or sth. However, when ppl step on it; it proved that it's nothing but a  big misconception. Some of these thoughts and practice leave country and ppl behind and jeopardize the overall progress........................... .SUCKSSSS..........well!!!!..ignorant and  ultra conservative society or ppl is the answer to yr question........Why no beef in Nepal?

Ask your Father or Grandfather if you can eat beef. You will get the answer of why it is banned and who did it.

I believe you can consume beef in nepal there are few stake houses in ktm i know of in and around Thamel. I have been to one but never ordered to eat. I would go try this time for sure. The stake house is called Himalayan Stake House around Chettrapati and it has been there for past 20 years for sure. Eventhough killing a cow is not legal but eating is and never was forbidded.

It was my bad then. I just assumed beef was banned in Nepal because naturally I did not go shopping for beef. Sorry about this.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_emblem

well, lets respect the national animal within the boundary.Other countries also do that, prohibit killing and eating their national animal within the nation.Cow is the national animal of Nepal, however only those cows who have Nepalese citizenship (born in Nepal)...however, importing beef is not banned, as many five star hotels in Nepal do serve burgers to their beef lovers tourists..imported beef are from cows not born in Nepal, so they do not fall under national animal category..so there should not be any aruguement

i agree with you zee. With cow being a national animal - unless the maos change that to a panda or something like they are changing everything else - slaughtering cows should not be allowed. Importing beef should be okay for the sake of non-hindus or even those hindus who don't give a damn.

hello all,

Sajha's kurakani is such a platform where we (people from different walks of life) meet and post comments and share ideas on a variety of fields that range from relationships to politics and to simple gossips. And it is a strong medium to reach nepalese residing in the US. Today, I would like to invite everyone to express their views and thoughts on past, present and future of Nepal. We all know Nepal just went through massive political transition. Nepal is still reeling from the adverse impacts of more than a decade long political instability, corruption (who knows how long its been in the system), economic and environmental degradation whose end do not seem to appear soon. It will be pages long before I finish writing Nepal's misfortunes so I am gonna lay down my questions right away and are as follows -

1. Who is to blame for Nepal's current status? People, Parties, weak and corrupted governments or our 48.6% literacy and 3.24 birth rate.

2. Can Nepal be delisted from poor nation's list? When and How?

3. What are the strengths of Nepal to be a affluent nation? We all know the weekness i.e. weak government etc.

I will post more questions later for further discussions.

JharekoPaat,

Question - why cow is a national animal, why not gaur? BTW, panda is not an endemic animal of Nepal. It is of China.
