Does anybody know what went wrong with my music players
It says "Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound device. There might not be a sound device installed on your computer, it might be in use by another program, or it might not be functioning properly."
and its the same thing if i try with other players...
counting on you guys for help
thanxx.

Perhaps your parents sneaked that thing in....so that you stop playing and singing all the time and give some thoughts in your studies too once in a blue moon :)

What OS are you running? What sound card are you using?? Go to my computer and right click on that. Select properties and then select Hardware and then device manager. Click on sounds and video and see if there's a question mark beside that. If there is, you might either have a problem with your sound driver or else the sound card itself.

jpt,

It's not the fault of your media player. First off, reboot the system and try to play the music. If it does not work then the sound card driver in your system is not functioning and or corrupted. So i would suggest you to try in reinstalling the sound card driver in the system. Check out the CDs that your vendor gave to you when you bought your laptop/desktop. One of those CDs should have the driver software in it.

your sound card seems ok but the audio controller is corrupted. So right click on that Multimedia Audio Controller (Yellow question mark) then go to Driver tab and then click on the Update Driver button. It will ask for the driver s/w which you need to supply from the CD. Some vendors also give the whole driver package in the C drive. You might want to check for the driver in that.

well, follow what hunk_in_grave said, "So right click on that Multimedia Audio Controller (Yellow question mark) then go to Driver tab and then click on the Update Driver button. It will ask for the driver s/w which you need to supply from the CD."

If you can't find the CD, let windows search for the drivers. some drivers could be located automatically by XP. try that!

i know jpt, u might be trying hard to listen to some of your fav songs on friday nite...coz i m doing that too..
okay, so if you could not find the driver then u can do nothing. basically the driver comes in the motherboard CD which which comes along with your computer when u purchase.Or else ,check in your hard drive (C, D, E...) inside My Computer to see if they have copied the driver software as a backup in there.

Else go through the manual and try to figure out which sound card your comp is using. Basically we need the manufacturer's company name and the model no. If you can find that, then we might google its driver from the net and download it for free...

well, aba,
right click the device
then click install driver
then click the (recommended) let windows search for its drives.
click next.
then wait until it finds the driver. if it doesn't, it will tell you it is not able to. but if you want to do manually, by not clicking recommended one and search for yourself, click that, then click next, then click search here, check box with address, and on browse, find I386 folder in your system drive. you might have a backup driver in there. I386 are in various places, you might want to search for the folder before you install!
