I've been to the US for 4 months and am living with some Nepalis and every now and then there is a big party outside of college. Even in US they are fighting all the time. Keti lai heryo ki jhagada garna khojne. What kind of mentality is that? If you get drunk it does not mean you have to lose civility. It does not give you the right to get physical. I feel sorry for the girl because I can't imagine how embarassing it is when the boyfriend is like that.

On top of that when we go out to eat, paisa nikalna ni garo maanne. Paisa tirne bela bathroom ma jaaney. Wallet lyauna birsyo bhanne. At least pay for what you ate or drank.

You should talk to your friends directly instead of ranting. Not all of us are the same.

Haha nepali lai paisa nikalna garo huncha. I have gone out with few people like that too when I used to go out a lot.

Maxpayne this kind of thing you cant talk with them. What are you gonna say? Hey I think you are cheap stop going to bathroom when it's time to pay? haha your only option is to stop going out with them. Fob if you are living with them then maybe it's time to find different roommates.

 Fob,

I totally understand your situation man. Been there, done that. (not saying I went to restroom when cheque came. hehe).

Here's what you need to do.

GET AWAY FROM THESE PEOPLE. Why on earth are you living with a COUPLE? LOL.

For the couple, the world revolves around them and you are just a pawn. The guy may be cool, the girl may be cool, but the couple, the couple is on a mission to survive anything and everything anyhow!

After you've gotten away from them, choose your circle carefully. I'm not saying avoid all Nepalis like its the plague, but there are some who you should not mingle with. These are the ones who will try and put "nepali peer pressure" on you, make fun of "khaires" and their habits, generally be unproductive in college and dont even have ONE non-nepali friend. AVOID AT ALL COSTS OR YOU RUIN YOUR COLLEGE EXPERIENCE.

It's college dude. Go out and experiment, find something you would be interested in doing for the rest of your life. It might even be your shot at happiness. if you went to college in nepal, it would be very hard for you to love something mainly because if that something you love does not go well with your friends, they will tease and ridicule you until you drop it. FCK THAT SHT :)

Our samajhik perspective was right in the situation it was created in, which is back home. Here, it fails miserably. Grow your own.

Good luck.

Wow I didn't expect to get so many response. Thanks all, just feels good to be able to vent here. I don't think I'll be able to talk to them about it. Bhanna ni kasari bhanne kasto lobhi bhanera. Jhagada garcha ta rakshi khako bela aru bela jhagada garla jasto ni chaina.

Girl works at a restaurant so we split the grocery 2 ways only. But they have to buy shrimp for the girl everytime. Afu balla talla college ko tuition tirdai chhu and on top of that I have to deal with these guys. Chodera arko thauma gaye pani relationship bigrincha, nagaye afno mental tension.

what do you mean by girl works at the restaurant and grocery is split 2 ways?

if there is a lot of difference  the way and the type of foods that you guys eat, i would suggest having separate grocery. just like americans, share the kitchen and basic items like oil, salt, dish soap and other common items but buy whatever you guys want to eat separately.

on the other hand, as soons as you can, move out with someone who is at your stage in life and dont bother changing them coz they wont.

its never a good idea to stay with couples if one is single!

Hi FOB,
Your situation reminds me of my past back in the hostel like 6 yrs ago. There were lots of Nepalese in that university and I saw that some girls and boys fought for penny as well. But I had very good roommate with whom i transferred and stayed together like 3 years. My hostel made me realize that if you want to study and have your own life where no one bother what you do, live with few Nepalese as much as possible and try to stay with foreigner next door.  I lived with few Nepalese and when I went to finish my undergrad, I lived with foreigner. it was my good experience. Coz, I don’t want to hear who gona clean today? Who gona wash dishes or had to explain to all that I had exam tomorrow and pls lower the voice….

Well my suggestion for you is to leave that place and stay with others or alone. Don’t worry abt the relation. The only things matters is how satisfied are you living with them.

In my experience, its hard to find a good roommate but not impossible. But, when I think abt my past, I had super coolest roommate and I m sure I wont find such a roommate again..

 .....

Dang! sad to hear that. i had kinda similar situation back in the days. My rommie had so called GF but her attitude was real bitchy. We 3 were living in 2 BR appartment. But, that bitch didn't wanna split up expenses rather kept the common groceries (juice/soda/culinaries) in mini cooler in their bedroom and even had extra microwave in their bedroom. . 2 of us had contracted the apt. Finally, i raise the hell n gave option either u guys leave or let me leave. I left making another contract including the management telling im no more liable for anything on the apt. neither the rent. Kick the bad ass if you have way out. That asshold n the bitch are still around the city but never have  spoken to, then after.

I have not gone via all those readings apart from the thread title. However, I just want to drop these words ( to whom it may concern):
"EF-U "

i guess pretty much all of us have been there done that. my first semester, i was living with a bunch of nepali guys .. goddang they were so cheap... they would not forget a dollar they spent on you. my second day in the U.S . i went to mcdonals with a senior nepali guy . i was a dollar short coz i had very less cash , most of my money was in the bank. so the guy paid a dollar out of his pocket. 4 months after that , one day he asked me to get a drink from the vending machine coz i owed him a dollar. i changed my dorm, got a room for myself. i paid the guy 5 bucks. As shameless as he was , he took it . So, brother you gotta know what kind of people to avoid. Look out for yourself, This is how you learn to deal situations like this in life.
p.s
tthis is just one of my experiences. i have lots of good nepali friends. i am a nepali and prould to be one

Your quality of life is only as good as people around you. Learn to avoid people who are cheap and more importantly learn to speak up. If you feel someone is not fair learn to tell them straight to their face. Best thing you can do is learn art of satire n believe me it works.
Like you said your roomies going to restroom when its time to pay. Next time its time to pay, say " restroom janey koi cha bhane bhana, pay garne bela bho."

Alche bro, Do u know what do I call your type of people? I call y'all "ungrateful bastards"! Okay dont get mad at me so soon, let me explain you why? Let me be that cheap Dai of yours for a while and tell you the story about what happened that day okay!
A guy who just arrived at the uni the other day calls me in the middle of the night saying he is starving. I barely know his name but I can't say no, not only because he's from Nepal but also because he's new Here and he must be going through a lot. So I decide to put everything that I was doing aside and help him. I drive couple of mile to get to his home and another 3 miles to McDonald's. I don't care about the homework that are due tomorrow, I don't care about the gas that I just WASTED, I don't care if my 1997 Camry breaks down at night in the middle of nowhere. I had a  starving brother waiting on me and I had to help him. we reached McDonald's. He looks at all the items and chooses to eat something he can't afford to. But what was his Dai there for? To help him out, right?? So I pay whatever he was short thinking he understands how hard it is to save cash here, specially when you are a student and living in an rural university working 20 hrs a week and pay me back when I  drop him off to his dorm. However, to my surprise he didn't offered me anything, heck he didnt even thanked me. anyway I am just happy I could help a needy guy. I hope he will some day buy me a drink in a vending machine!

one that got away. who is this guy who refers to everyone as his brother? it's very easy to spot someone who has pure intentions. they don't need to explain themselves!

Here is probably what that scenario looked like. A MUCH MORE REALISTIC ONE.

New guy in college, old guy thinking, "Here comes another namuna. I wonder what use he'll be to me. He probably knows very little about life here, I might as well try to make life a bit more easier for myself.".

New Guy (NG): "Hey another nepali! Cool. Hows it going? I'm looking for a place to stay and since we're already familiar with each other culture-wise, it might be easier for us to get along. Do you want to live together?"

Old Guy (OG): He looks pretty naive. I wonder what caste he is from. If he comes stays in my apartment and crashes on the sofa, then my rent will decrecease, especially since i am already splitting with my budi. He might even know how to cook food and I'll make him do the cleaning too. "Sure brother. I am here for you. You came all the way from Nepal and must not know anyone around here. I have an apartment already, but since you really need a place to stay, I don't mind letting you sleep in the living room. We can cook and clean and live happy."

NG - "Sounds good. Can you help with my luggage?"

..... after some days ...

No food in the apartment because OG is hoping NG will feel 'aftyaro' and buy the entire grocery. He uses his budi to make snide remarks about the food like "Aja ta ghar ma khana nai rehina cha hai?".

So after coming home from library New Guy (NG) asks Old Guy (OG) - "Hey looks like we're out of food, wanna go grab some groceries?"

OG - I'm gonna make this mf buy grocery this month. I spent a good deal of money on cigs and alcohol so now dont have money left. "Oh my brother, grocery gonna be closed why not grab something from mcdonalds drive through which is just 10 minute walk from here."

NG - "Ok thats a great idea. Can I use your car man? It's really snowy out there and it'll be faster that way."

OG - Bastard wants my car. Who knows where he's gonna go with it. "Eh no worries my brother. I will drive you."

And the story continues. Let me paste from One That Got Away -

OG - I drive couple of mile to get to his home and another 3 miles to McDonald's. However, to my surprise he didn't offered me anything, heck he didnt even thanked me. anyway I am just happy I could help a needy guy. I hope he will some day buy me a drink in a vending machine!
