You "are sure" she is going to get more movies because of this? Because of what? Speaking in English during an award ceremony? Or reciting a speech someone else wrote and completely butchering the language on stage?

@durbarmargnep: correct. she could get couple of movies because of this. do you think people you see on tv write their own speech; that is speech given by famous people whether they be celebrities on oscar award or a president or a prime ministers addressing to the nation. what part of the world do you live in.

and how exactly did she butchered the language ?

Kiddo : i was outraged when makune gave an interview in english. it was not necessary when he can better communicate in nepali. and his accent was downright haliraous. but when it comes to celebrities doing something out of ordinary which they usually do ( for publicity), i don't think they was different. as for speaking in english, she did a pretty good job for her standard.

let's just face the truth. you all have a problem with her accent not her grammar. i showed this video to few people and they all laughed at her accent. if this speech was given by some celebrities from india, it should have gone flawlessly.

Dolphin,

Do not underestimate Indians in thier english. The 200 years of slavery to Britishers have really given them higer edge in English than us Nepalese. I know Indians have funny accent but they do speak proper english. That is why at work the Indian with crazy accent does not get as much "come again" by the white american while a nepali with MBA and 8 years in US gets way more "come again"

I would not care about her accent or her poor english. What really needs to be made fun of here is the Gorkhey Mentality of feeling higer by being able to speak English. The feeling is about 200 years old. If a bahun speaks a fluent Newari he will be made fun of but if a Bahun speaks broken english he is and educated person.

Dolphin
I can see your point on the first para. Leaders do have some moral obligation to use Nepali; although it wouldn't be illegal. It wouldn't be as much of a grave mistake if celebrities use it, but the problem is not with the use of English, but use of forced english in an uncomfortable way.

Not sure why you are hell bent on proving that its her accent we are after. I have many friends who have that accent and I would never mock them; heck, my own accent might sound like that for all I know.

I am with you on that it wasn't as horrible as it is being potrayed; she gave it a good try. You have to admit there were some errors though.

@sidster: how do you know that it is a gorkhey mentality of feeling higher. this is your assumption here.
and same goes to kiddo when you said "forced english in an uncomfortable way" -- you are preceiving it that way.

Given the present state nepali movie industry, I would have expected worse. She could have spoken in Nepali, it might have been better, but that's her choice. And she was not an ambassador representing Nepal. I dont think there's a need to make a big deal out of it. We all have seen/heard worse.

Okay, I am not trying to mock her here, but since Dolphin kept saying we are perceiving it the wrong way because of her accent, I am listing out the mistakes..you figure out what they are:

"I feeling awesome,"

"Sorry for all the nominees this category"

"It would not be possible without my family..."

Again, my intention is not to mock her. I just don't need somebody to keep saying I perceive things this way or that way.

I make silly mistakes all the time; multiply that with the jitterness of giving a public speech. I probably would have made more mistakes than her. My kudos to her for doing what she intended to do, I do think the announcers were a little bit of jerk on mocking her afterwards.

Also talking about mistakes, even the otitle of the original post has one, so nobody is perfect.

Is that the way to receive the award with one hand or it's out of her nervousness?

The title is grammatically wrong. It should have been "award winning"...

This was a thank you note from a Nepali actress to a Nepali audience and it was in Nepal. Let us not expect it to be like a speech from Hollywood celebrity in an Oscar ceremony.

Can you take a screenshot of your post and circle the word "followings"?
