The University of Mary is building two new apartment buildings north of campus for upperclass and graduate students to meet student housing demands.

The two buildings, one for women and one for men, will hold a total of 92 students. They will have a number of amenities, like air conditioning, a kitchen and in-apartment laundry. They are scheduled to be finished by the time school starts in August.

Greg Vetter, the executive vice president for the university, said the student population has been growing steadily in recent years. For the upcoming year, the school saw about a 3 percent increase in incoming students.

The increase in the student population has led to a need for more residential housing. This has been particularly evident in the past couple of years with affordable housing becoming harder to find in Bismarck, said Lynn Geary, University of Mary’s director of student life.

The extra space was obviously needed. The two buildings had more applications than could be filled by the housing deadline in March. There are close to 35 students on the waiting lists — mostly women, since the campus has a larger female population.

The apartments were given out in order of seniority: graduate students first, then seniors and finally juniors. Only a few juniors managed to get a spot in the apartments, Geary said.

Vetter said he thought the apartments were so popular because they offered a sort of “in-town living” while still on the U-Mary campus.

“It’s a more attractive living arrangement than a residence hall,” he said.

With more students needing or wanting on-campus housing in recent years, the school has worked with Expressway Inn to book extra rooms, if needed.

Within the next three years, U-Mary also is planning to build a new campus center — the “campus living room,” as Vetter calls it.

The university’s increasing population is exciting, Vetter said.

“How cool is this?” he said. “We’ve got growth, our students are excited about it.”

“There’s good things happening up here,” he added.

Its been a great summer. YRCW went up from 5 dollars to 35 dollars today. BNCC now at 13 dollars per share. Next stop will be a while. Hold the stock for a year and only pay 10 per cent tax instead of 30 per cent or more. Just giving the range. Hold your stock for 10 years and let it grow and only pay the tax 1 time.

My current holding.

BNCC
YRCW
BDCO
NCT

NCT- Recently added. Nothing new with this company other than its a spin off. Its a health care provider to baby boomers. Old people are becoming old faster than they thought. Read the investors presentation. Still a good price. July 31 is the time when I'll receive the so-called divident.

BDCO- Its a refinary in Texas. Few months ago I mentioned about oil boom in the US. Well now, you all know that. BDCO- belongs to a stanford university educated Mr Carroll. Its a refinary that he bought back in 2006 out of bankruptcy. Back in those days, fracking was not as popular as it is today. Hence, he bought this refinary in the obsecure Nixon area of texas. Now the neighborhood boy and girls don't have to pipe their oil to Baytown or other coastal refinary locations. BDCO has something like a "mill" of the neighborhood. They'll not go broke. A stanford guy in the heat of Texas makes you wanna buy. Remember, T Boone Pickens says, in the stock market of oil industry, if the CEO does not hold the majority of the company or the stock, he/she will treat their shareholders like some monkey in Nepal.

whats yrcw and bncc?

YRCW is the short cut name of the company named YRC World wide, a trucking company. You may have seen them on the street.

BNCC is the short cut name of a bank named BNC Bancorp. It has several location in several states but mainly making money from the braches in North Dakota, where oil boom is happening today and also North Dakota ranks #1 among all states in terms of growth. Still a cheap price at 13 dollars per share. In a couple of weeks the earnings (Result of operation) for prior 3 months will be out. And there'll be anogher upside to the stock price. You can google these things and if you wanna learn use investopedia.com.
