Since missionaries themselves are trying to convert people of other religion into chiristianity, it can be inferred that they view other religions as being inferior to christianity...any sane person can figure that trying to convert other people is beliving that one's own religion is superior to others, i.e. a blatant disrespect and intolerance of other religions...therefore these missionaries who (at times with the help of financial, educational or other material greed) convert people of other religions into chirstianity ust be outlawed....

1. like i said earlier, proselytize itself is based on the idea that other religions are inferior to one's own

2. i feel utterly ashamed and disgusted that these white assholes from Europe and America think they can buy us with money to convert into their religion, which i feel is a great strike to our pride

....this wrting of mine should not be inferred as a reaction to the declaration of nepal as a secular state...heck, i am not hindu myself...but the point is how long are we to remain like cheapshots who will do anything for the whiteman's money? isn't it time that proselytize and conversion using financial or other "similar" means be outlawed? of coures, conversion based on one's own wish will be legal, but any group organised to convert religions must be banned if we have any sense of pride and dignity left

Enigma2.
i also attended christian schools and that too many many years.I agree with u in some point yes they are doing some social service but their motive is not social service .Otherwise they won't be christian if they don't preach christianity.Well everything is fine.Preach if u like. But don't take advantage of poor and expolit uneducated with cheap tricks.U don't know uptill what extent they can go to get people converted .
They didn't dare to convert you into christianity cause u come from educated background may be elite families .If they use such cheap tricks on you what would u do.Of course u have all the resource to open there secrets .may be if u had political influence threaten their existence.
there is two categories of christian schools if u have been to christian school u should know. One is meant for u and another meant for lower castes and less influential background and don't tell me there were some christian from lower caste studying with u.cause i know what is the ratio and why.See who discriminates more.See who takes advantage of poor and exploits poor in democratic utopia of Nepal.

Chritianity has no place in Nepal's culture. They are buying the religion in the shameful name of help. They have created so many churches. How are they funded? Their target is low income jobless nepalese.

Now the Nepali Hindus have resorted to Christian bashing.

Shame on you guys!!

ss74k, you think only Dalits and Indigenous peoples are converting to Christianity? Think again! Father Sharmas and Father Upadhyas are also working across Nepal as pastors in make-shift churches! Even Brahmins are joining Christianity. But frankly, I think people should have a "choice" to become who they want to be!

The Nepali Hindus are becoming paranoid - now that the House of Reps declared Nepal a secular state. They are increasingly acting "funny" - like they "own" Nepal? Just like the autocratic kings of Nepal who always acted like Nepal was their "purkha lay arjeko sampati." Tweedeldums and Tweedeldees. No difference between the mentality of autocratic kings and these Hindus. Shame on you guys!!!!

Why are you bashing Christian missionaries? What's wrong if Nepali peoples choose to be "Christians" of their own free will? What's wrong if Christian missionaries want to "preach"? Anybody can watch Christian sermons on TVs - so you want to ban TVs that air Christian programmes too?

At least the Christian missions are not misusing state money. The Hindu state is!

You know what the Hindu state did and will continue to do. It collected money from peoples of all regilions and used that to subsidize India-based Hindu fundamentalist orgs and their stooges in Nepal, Sanskrit universities, and unfairly imposed high school level Sanskrit education on all students, whether they liked it or not. So you think this good, huh? This is state-sanctioned discrimination based on religion.

You saw the palace people visiting temples and Hindu congregations when Nepal was bleeding -wasting millions of rupees of Neplai peoples' hard-earned monies. You saw India-based fundamentalist Hindu orgs and their stooges in Nepal roll out red carpets for the autocratic king? You saw the state dole out monies to Bharat Keshari Simha's VHF. That too was abuse of money in the name of religion!!

And you guys dare to point fingers at christian missionaries?

You guys are not only acting like bigot and supremacists ... but you are also all hypocrites!

Amen!

karmapa,

"now the Nepali Hindus have resorted to Christian bashing"

first of all im not a hindu myself...and like i have told before that i am not writing here because neapalese are turning into christians...i dont care if anybody wants to be christian, muslim, buddhist, hindu, whatever..its their choice
but like i said earlier, i find two flaws in the mission of these white bastard missionaries....first, their whole "mission" is based on their belief of religious supreriority of christianity over other religions..and secondly, unlike you, a lot of people in nepal have self pride and cannot stand the freakin cheapshot attitude shown towards us by the white man....time and again people have told me about how they have turned people into christianity..sometimes even deceiving them into eating cow, just so they can be turned into christians....how do you explain that?
haha brother/sister do i have to explain here how corrupt your beloved vatican is? hahahahaha you make me laugh ... and the king??? who is he?? he is an asshole, and DOESNOT represent hinduism, be warned.....you cant call gyane to be represent hinduism....and about sanskrit, i hated that myself...nyway, nepal needs to be equal ... i a gree with you in every other thing....dalits, so called lower-caste, poor all need to be brought to the mainstream.....but i dont believe that this should be achived by selling our pride and sucking the white man's dicck

karmapa,
please understand one thing.. i come and post here in sajha to learn , to broaden my understanding... i am not here to promote hindu fundamentalism....heck, i quit hinduism myself.... but i feel a great strike to our pride by the attitude shown by missionaries (esp. the white man, from whose hands i have to suffer a lot in usa).... yes, indeed equal nepal is my dream too just as it is yours...you say that missionaries do good things and stuff but look at africa...africa is turning into a majority christian slowly, but has the lives of people improved? people are worse off than they were? maybe its short term allurement that they use to convert people...haina? ra tyo jatha haurle paisa diera dharma bechne kura sunda saro chitta dukhcha mero....kati samma hami nepali lai bech-beikhan ko maal saaman bhanthanchan yiniharule bhanera....mero chistianity sanga kunai dushmani chaina, and like i said time and again that when i post here its not about who converts to what religion but rather a matter of dignity more....yes nepal need to be equal...tara must we suck the white man dickk for that? are we not capable enough of doing that ourselves?

About dalits and poor being converted to Christianity, let's look at it from their eyes:

If I were, say... Maila Kaami or Saila Podey, my life as it is would not be pleasant.

I am, for all intent and purpose, an outcast. I get to do ONLY the menial work, kind of work that no one else would touch. And, far from being grateful that I am doing society's dirty work, people would actually shun me or be outright rude to me. I would not be allowed to enter other's house. I would not be allowed to worship in the temple. I would not be allowed to get water from the same kuwa or dhara. I will have little or no access to educational, economic and job opportunities.

All this without any of my fault. Now, worst of all, my kids will have the same kind of life to look forward to.

I would say, f*k this! I would say, take your caste based Hindu religion and shove it up your a$s.

Now, if a khairey comes and tells me I can escape from this, heck yeah, I will listen. I will change my name to John Abraham or Mel Gibson.

My kids can now go to school. They will be educated and be able to live a good life, at least better than mine. I don't have to care about not being allowed to get into a temple because I can go to church where I am welcomed. Life has dramatically become better, simply by listening to bunch of kuireys with funny accent and little book they call Bible.

I agree with Bathroom Coffee.

In my opinion, and it is just my opinion, it is best for a country to be secular. Secularity, for a lack of a better word, puts the nation on a progressive track.

Having a theocracy or theology based society can be more of harm than good. That's why I don't partake on the doctrines of Jerry Falwell, Pat Robertson, Iranian Ayotollahs and Taliban (to name a few).

FORGET THE MISSIONARIES, TRUE HINDUS/BUDDHISTS WILL NEVER CHANGE.

WHOEVER CHANGES OR WANTS TO CHANGE,MAYBE THEY SHOULD'VE NOT BEEN HINDUS/BUDDISHTS IN THE FIRST PLACE ANYWAY.....COZ A TRUE RELIGIOUS FERVOR IS IMMUTABLE.

OM NAMA SHIVAYA. OM MANE PEME.

TRUE HINDUS/BUDDHISTS WILL BE THERE UNTIL THE END...

To understand missionaries, one must understand how it all started. According to Christian beliefs, Christ told his 12 disciples to go tell the world about salvation through Christ Jesus (in what is known as the Great Commission, found in Matthew 28:16-20). Peter, John, Mark Thomas, and the rest of the disciples were the first actual missionaries in Christian History. They were not from the western world, but rather from the Middle East.

In simple and general terms this is the Christian view of Missions:
Once a person believes in and accepts Christ as his/her personal savior, they are to go out and tell others the Good News (the message of Jesus Christ, as we are commissioned to in Matthew 28).
The goal of missions is not so much about actually converting people, as it is conveying the message itself. Some people have been more receptive to this message than others, which is seen throughout history, but many people have been converted to Christianity as a result. And all of this was started by those 12 disciples.
Europeans took the idea of missions to a level that was not intended during the Crusades of the Middle Ages. Greed, selfishness and pride took people completely off the track of what Jesus actually taught. Many atrocities were committed in the name of Christianity, as well as economic superiority, as crusaders forcibly converted anyone who didn’t agree with the beliefs of the Church of that day. This is in reality the complete opposite of what Jesus taught. “Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you”, says Matthew 5:43. Jesus is a message of hope and love.
There have been many changes in how mission work is done since the days of the Crusades. Many Christian reformers have come along since then and have moved everything back on track with the original intention of the Great Commission. These days, Missionaries are very sensitive and respectful to the culture of the people they will be witnessing to. I’m sure there are a few bad apples, but for the most part this is the case.

Christian mission does not have a perfect record, maybe not even 50%. But there definitely has been some good mission work done around the world.
It is all about sharing HOPE and LOVE and helping people in need. In doing so, people have been converted to Christianity. My dad is one of these people. I was born into a Christian family. I am a Christian and proud to be one. I am Nepali and also love my country and culture. I have no intention of “converting” anyone, nor to I hate any other religion. If someone wants to know what I believe I will share with people how I feel about Christ. I might not agree 100% with missionaries or what they are doing, but they are helping our country (Nepal). They are not doing it out of pity and mercy, but rather out of love and responsibility, according to their beliefs.

aj p2002,

Explain to Sajha how you are a Nepalese citizen and that too christian?????

Do not give us the bull about how peaceful/respectful etc you are!!!!

The fact is that a tremite called 'missionary' whether for christains or muslims has already entered Nepal. Where they have tricked people to convert, AS SIMPLE AS THAT!!!

If u christians are so good at social service THEN WHY THE HELL DO YOU CONVERT PEOPLE????

Keep you damn preaching to yourself!!!!

people should have a right to choose their religion. the episcopal and pentecostal, the cheif missionairies of nepal are the ones who take it upon their duty to save the lost souls. thats what the gospel of matthew tells them to do. i dont know if such an ignorance is excusable, their assumption that some other religion thousands of years older than theirs is some pagan tradition that won't lead anyone to salvation. there are missionairies who do their work in all honesty. but even when they are not trying to spread the christian imperialism in especially the non-chirstian part of the world and are just trying to cleanse people's soul, their audacity to wrongfully assume that a soul needs to be cleansed just because it hasn't been baptized strangles the whole mission of these "religious" people down by the neck.
The United Mission to Nepal has done quite a lot of things. suddenly they have projected the nepali christians as the oppressed minority. well what the hell do they expect????????? i give you clean water if you pray to my god, i'll give you the liberty to change your last name if you come to mass every sunday morning. there is nothing wrong with christianity. for it to peacefully co-exist with other religions, it has to adapt and improvise according to the nepali way. and yes, the missionairies should STOP paying or reimbursing people for converting. that will land them right in HELL. sorry.
