Indefinite curfew in Lamjung district headquarters

Lamjung district administration office has imposed indefinite curfew in the district headquarters Besishahar from Thursday noon after violent clashes between a group of local youths and the Maoist-affiliated Young Communist League (YCL) over the tender of scrap materials of Mid-Marsyangdi hydropower project.

The curfew order came after tension escalated when YCL cadres beat up the
local youths, who had thrashed a local Maoist leader yesterday and barred him from filing the bid, reports said.

Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) had opened the tender of the scrap materials worth 10.5 million rupees.

Security has been beefed up in the town amid fears of fresh clashes between the two groups. nepalnews.com mk Aug 07 08

Maddog Bro,

I went back to nepal and invested few thousand dollars  and turned it into seven figures. But red tape , hassles, quality of life, threaten from YCL and maoist , chanda request from each and every college(studnets) of kathmandu and ghus request to do even small things turned me to USA.

I live 6 months in Nepal and 6 Months in USA but Nepal is not a place for business.

MadDogG Brother,

Idea of big investment is not ludacrous. Your idea to spend big bucks, where the returns are more likely than not to be low, like ur building projects and six flag parks are indeed absurd. May I add that they are bad business ideas in Nepal's context. I respect and agree that we have to work together and complement each other. I have also said that we need foreign investment. After all, lots of green bucks to put some life to our economy is absolutely what we need. So we agree on the general premises. But we diverge from here on. Like Unicornis has said we need to look at our needs our geography our culture our economy and invest. very little can be understood about Nepal, its problems, its demographics, and it economy by looking at Singapore or Malaysia or Korea. Our current problems and their current problems are tied to different contexts although it is very easy to say and see that "they were poor" "we are poor" so "our solutions have to be similar.". We have our strengths and weaknesses. It is a good idea, in my opinion, to concentrate on them before investing. Lastly MadDoGG, u can look forward to invest in hydropower cause it needs a lot of investment captal, creates jobs, makes good profit as well.

Dear friends, this is an amazing thread. I don't know how you are all going to react to this. For your information, I have just initiated a nationwide project - SAGARMATHA FOUNDATION - one family, one graduate! I am working together with Mr. Arjun Bhatta, Executive Director of the Nepali Integrated Blind Development Association (NIBDA). He is now in the process of registering the Foundation and establishing the Advisory and Board of Directors in which I am one. The Foundation's mission is to provide scholarship for deserving students who come from poor, financially, physically deprived conditions. The Foundation will provide funds for students on a nationwide basis. It will operate as a NGO. And we are looking for funding agencies, corporations, businessmen or associations etc both local and overseas who are prepared to provide funding for these children.

The UN's Millinieum Development Goals has indicated that by 2015, the intention is to halve the poverty level through education. Because EDUCATION IS THE ONLY ANTI-POVERTY STRATEGY THAT ONE CAN PLACE IN THE HANDS OF THE POWERLESS.

So, if all my brothers and sisters in Sajha or outside there care enough for our homeland, than for heaven's sake, please put your words into action. Tiny drops of water make a mighty ocean. One student at a time, one family at a time. If you can lift one child above the squalor of poverty, you have given him a chance of a lifetime and turned his future around. That's teaching a man how to fish.

SAGARMATHA FOUNDATION has already taken the first step....this will be my lifetime journey and pledge to Nepal, a country that I love more than where I was born in...Malaysia. When I can do this, why can't you?

Stop giving reasons and excuses. Enough is enough. Day after day, night after night, Sajha is nothing but empty talk, promises and dreams. NEPAL WILL CHANGE ONLY WHEN YOU CHANGE.

After all it was the President of US who said "Don't ask what the country can do for you but ask what YOU CAN DO FOR YOUR COUNTRY!"

If anyone of you want to help this Foundation, please contact me.

JAI JAI JAI NEPAL!
