I've been to the US for 4 months and am living with some Nepalis and every now and then there is a big party outside of college. Even in US they are fighting all the time. Keti lai heryo ki jhagada garna khojne. What kind of mentality is that? If you get drunk it does not mean you have to lose civility. It does not give you the right to get physical. I feel sorry for the girl because I can't imagine how embarassing it is when the boyfriend is like that.

On top of that when we go out to eat, paisa nikalna ni garo maanne. Paisa tirne bela bathroom ma jaaney. Wallet lyauna birsyo bhanne. At least pay for what you ate or drank.

On the contrary 'bhai', threads like these are where differences like ours are put to rest by commenting like this.

It's good to know I'm not the only one who has to go through this crap. Maybe it's a good idea to move into college housing.

Nothing wrong w/ living off-campus. Try not to have a ton of Nepali people in your circle. Back in college, it certainly helped that there were only 15-20 Nepalese in my college and I'd not engage in anything more than "hi, hello" with more than half of them.

Don't disagree on your opinion about openness but based on my observation, the more crowded our population, the higher the chances of pointless rifts, arguments, back biting and all the drivel.

Traditionally, whenever there's a gathering or some sort of event, the chances of fights breaking are significantly higher. ANA, "Dance Party" being some of those, just off the top of my head.

Not sure why us Nepalese act the way we do, to be honest.

What ever culture they (WE) came with, it sprouts every now and then involunterily ( it needs real good practice to supress those habits).  Also related to family values the practice back home.
Even people with Ph.D.were not able to change their bad habits. Does education make people wise?

dude, if you have problem with your friends like you mentioned, tell them. If they act like that all the time, and you dont like it , you dont have to hang out with them. Tell them what you think is going on and if they dont like it , fk it who cares right? if that  embarass them , they deserve it. But for god sake , dont blame all nepalese, There are ton of good nepalese out there.
And it is not just nepalese, there are bunch of people in almost all countries who get drunk and fight. It is all about who you choose to spend your time with.

I couldn't disagree with you all...different experiences, different feelings..but we all belong to same community, same culture.

I think its a matter of individuals difference in their personality

"Remember to always be yourself. Unless you suck"-- Heard somewhere !!!

I enjoyed reading everyone's experiences as new comer and as old living. I agreed with most of you. As a new comer in US back 03, I was also helped by so many dai and didi's and they will always stay with me. As time passed on, I helped several new comers as well. As we have saying"Guun ko Badala Guun Le nai Chucaunu parcha". All I have to say, Give respect and Take respect. There are always good ppl and bad ppl, make your wise decision to choose good ppl and hang out with them.

Back in sajha after a while. Thanks for all the overwhelming response. Some people never change but you can change yourself. I have moved in with few other people and life is good now!

Tell me something new. That is why I don't go to any Nepali events any more.  Jand khaye pachi kahiley khana napaaa ko justoo jailey pani jhagada. They say if you are educated, you would not behave that way.  But our Apes from Nepal tend to prove otherwise.
