One thing that is unfortunate is that most of the SLC toppers are living and serving in some foreign countries than Nepal. If they all have stayed in Nepal and served them it would have made some difference.

It's good to top the board of exams. It's however not everything in education, let alone life. As a person one should indulge in overall development of your life.
Let us assume I came first in first in my SLC. Does it mean that I know better than others? Does it mean I studied in the most prestigious school? And so on...
By the time it comes to saying good bye to the Earth, you should have done a good service to your parents, country and the mother earth... that's all it matters. Peaceful, brilliant, enjoyable, hardworking and still well relaxed... that's the criteria for a successful life

huh ! Are we talking about the same board exams where you can take out your book to copy all the answers in your finals ? Lets face it...we all know that everyone cheats in those board exams. So to top that ....he he is no big deal.

And why the fug do nepali people always interested in other people's business ? Why can't you leave those people alone. But the assholes here had to dig that up to see if they(themselves) are doing any better than those so called board toppers.

NEPALI PEOPLE NEED TO LEARN HOW TO MIND THEIR OWN BUSINESS.

All the toppers are not in abroad. Here, I am in Kathmandu and serving the NEPAL Government. Those who commented against the Board system, I am sorry to say that for them, "Grapes are Sour". In our time, as I mentioned earlier, half the toppers from General Government Schools, how did those school make influencial impact?

Does anyone know (without looking up the info on Google or wikipedia or in some biographical sketches ex-post) where:

Nelson Mandela
Bill Gates
Bill Clinton
Economist and Indian PM Dr. Manmohan Singh
Historian Babu Ram Acharya
Football player Z. Zidane
economist Amartya Sen
World Bank president Paul W.
Mathematician John Nash (thhe one with "a beautiful mind")
Tom Hanks
Amitabh Bacchan
Warren Buffet
Journalist and writer Narayan Wagle

and so on and on -- people who are known for their work --

Does anyone know where these and other famous people:

1) went to high school, and
2) how well they did in high school?

My guess is that: most people don't know and don't care at all.
What matters is those people's MOST RECENT achievements only.

The fact that some people here are publicly talking about their high-school ko SLC Board
success of BS 2039 (from 20+ years ago) makes one think that perhaps they haven't done anything unique or remarkable or interesting (other than studying some more and getting a job . . . like everyone else) in all those intervening years.

My limited observation:

In America, people talk about their most recent accomplishments, and those are the only things that really count -- in academia, research, private sector and so on. You can't go through life in the US, by saying that you went to Yale or MIT and graduated with highest honors: you have to constantly prove yourself.

But in Nepal, most people seem unable let go of that some obscure national award they won when they were 18 or about the fact they they got into certain college/university when they were 18 or 27 (even when they are now 45 years old) . . . as though -- in these fast-changing world -- ancient accomplishments or where they went to and what they did in high school still confers any value today (except, perhaps in some cases, make one's parents boast about the children's achievements to the point of being utter social bores.)

Great if people had great PAST accomplishments!

But regardless of past accomplishments, let's spend additional energy to focus on most recent accomplishments instead of forever turning our ongoing lives into a museum of past accomplishments.

Mero dui paisa, hai!

ashu

Rahul Vhai:
I said most of the SLC toppers are out of the country, not all. I salute you for staying and serving Nepal.

According to what I hear, Prakash Chandra Lohani and Babu Ram Bhattarai, both prominent Nepali politicians, are SLC toppers. Someone pointed above on Luna Bhatta's reputable position in the medical society.

Topping SLC, no doubt, is a notable achievement. I consider it their right to make a note of what they have achieved.

Board toppers probably means not much, as we know there are students who are late-bloomers. So if not in SLC, those late-bloomers would shine after SLC... and there are abundant exmaples of that. Topping in board neither doesn't tell the intelligence of the person. It also dosn't tell the levels of greed, aversion, cunningness, jealousy, WISDOM.

One of the great example is Baburam. Topping all the exam doesn't mean you are mesiah.

R Baral ji. for your kind information, Praakash Chandra Lohani was not Board Topper, Instead, Prakash Chandra Joshi was Board Topper ( He is well known Engineer).

Karma Rana ji, I agreed that lots of genius were bloomed after SLC but those who secured top ten in SLC also have outstanding performance in later part of their life. More significantly, their achievement at that time was not "Chaaan chun", otherwise everyone has had that position.

Of course, some toppers have failed in their life. I know a board topper who has never passed 10+2 and now mentally disturbed person. Well known lady toppers did not pass ISc from Ascol and became top professionals( how, god knows).

Sometimes it makes me laugh when there exist people who think person like Baburam is GREAT for he topped all exams (wonder if there rank the Masters and phd degrees?) became architech, never practiced the degree he earned, MURDERED people and still he is considered as the BEST Architect!! What a ass*Ole logic is that?
