A Nepali woman went to Pashupatinath with her 7 year old boy.
Boy: Look mom a cow, can we get some milk?
Mom: No son we can not, it's just a statue and they continued.
Boy again said: Look mom the tiger, will it attack us?
Mom: No beta its just a statue. It won't.
Boy: Look mom a dragon, will it spit fire on us?
Mom: It won't dear...its just a statue. Then they both enter into the templ...e premises.
Mom: Look son God, He is the master of the universe and will guide you. Please bow down in front of him and show some respect.
Son: Sorry mama, He can't be God. Its just a statue. If He is the master of the universe than just tell him to talk to me.
Mom was baffled.
Just to let you know, Vedas, Bhagwad Gita , Bible, Quran and most of other sacred scriptures prohibits Idol worship. Please read your scripture today. Please do not put God in a box.

The Vedas: "Andhatama pravishanti ye asambhuti mupaste"
"They enter darkness, those who worship the natural elements" (Air, Water, Fire, etc.). "They sink deeper in darkness, those who worship sambhuti." [Yajurveda 40:9]
Sambhuti means created things, for example table, chair, idol, etc.

Bhagvad Gita: "Those whose intelligence has been stolen by material desires surrender unto demigods and follow the particular rules and regulations of worship according to their own natures." [Bhagavad Gita 7:20]

"Thou shalt have no other gods before me."
"Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth:"
"Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the Lord thy God am a jealous God." [The Bible, Exodus 20:3-5]

Al-Qur'an: "It has been revealed to you, and to those before you that if you ever commit idol worship, all your works will be nullified, and you will be with the losers." [Al-Qur'an 39:65]
"God does not forgive idolatry,* but He forgives lesser offenses for whomever He wills. Anyone who sets up idols beside God, has forged a horrendous offense." [Al-Qur'an 4:48]

Have a good Tuesday. Please do not give up your right to think to anyone. Let not your fore-fathers make decision of your salvation.
May God guide all of us. Ameen !!!

your Nepali brother

So, you raise a point and when somebody argues to the point you just raise a different point.
Fine, this is the last time I am responding to your questions, if you chose to ignore them and post other points/questions, I will chose to ignore your postings as well:

Why do something exist at all?
I am guessing you are looking for a big cause. Not everything has to have a cause; sometimes things happen without any cause or reason.

What was there before Big Bang?
We don't know and we don't claim to know. We only have theories that will keep on getting rebuked or affirmed the more information we gather. We don't claim to understand everything about universe and come up with doctrines.
There could have been nothing at all; it's also possible that a different universe gave birth to this universe (String theory supports this one). Like the earlier scientists postulated, entire matter in the universe could have existed in a singular form, says Singularity theory. Science still cannot say for sure what the singularity is exactly, other than postulation that it existed at the core of black hole.
Now, religion gives us a definitive answer, so it must be better right? It depends upon your perspective. Say, you and I are walking down the street and we spot a big black box. We both ponder upon the box and I immediately say, I know what's inside that box for sure. You on the other hand, have some idea but aren't sure hence you say you really don't know what's inside for sure. Who is better? Not knowing and admitting is not bad.

Why is evolution happening in this Planet (Earth)?
Darwin answered this question and he certainly didn't use the God word in his explanations (some argue that he said the theories governing evolutions: natural selection etc, were attributed to God; I say it depends upon your interpretation). Any living being with an ounce of intelligence tries to adopt to the environment in order to survive and reproduce. We still haven't answered many questions as to why this is the case, but we don't make up theories out of blue.

Are we real? If yes, how? If not, how?
Depends upon your definition of realty. If what we perceive is real then we are real. Otherwise we are figment of our understanding
.

Kiddo, my questions are related to the big picture of existence. Therfore, I need to know your viewpoint before refuting or agreeing on your viewpoints. Some people here on sajha like to argue just for the sake of winning the argument! I am not one of those. I like to have a intellectual discussion rather than ad hominem.

Kiddo, I found some fallacy in your logic: "Sometime things happen without any reason or cause." Water vapor cannot exist without water! Bracelet cannot exist without gold! Pot cannot exist without clay! Tree cannot exist without seed!  Give me an example that doesn't have a cause? You are making me smile here.

I was expecting a deeper level of answer when I asked "why is evolution happening?" I understand Darwin's Theroy of Evolution through the process of Natural Selction. I think you didn't understand my question. I mean to say what is the ultimate goal of Evolution?

I know I asked some extremely difficult questions like Big Bang, but we are talking about reality here, so we must understand each other viewpoints. Therefore, my questions are not out of the topic. I appreciate your viewpoints.

ujl, you are again showing who you are. Reading a few fiction stories doesn't make you intelligent. You refute kiddo's logic by using example of vapor and water, seed and tree. Hey murkha, they are the same thing!!  Seed contains that tree, rock contains that statue, vapor is water. Nothing can be created nor be destroyed.
I think you said you are taking calculus class, so you are now going to a real school, hopefully they will help you come out of this delusion.

But before you run in loop too much. Answer my questions once...What is that 'ultimate reality' or 'consciousness' you are talking about?

I think we are talking two different things. Water vapor existing because of water is not the REASON for its existence. Water is essential for water vapor to exist, it's a requirement not a reason. Why does water vapor exist in itself? Water, when boiled turns into water vapor, but that's the mechanism, not a reason. I punch Harry with my fist. My flexing of muscle and exerting force is the mechanism of my punch, not the reason of my punch. The reason I punch him is because I am angry at him. I can't point to a similar reason for water vapor existence.
Let's get over the semantics now as this is not a discussion about grammar and intent, but about religion and everything else.
You said you were expecting a deeper level of answer why is evolution happening. Maybe you are looking for the answer that suits you, would you consider an answer out of that paradigm? When you ask what is the ultimate goal of evolution, you are automatically assuming that there IS an ultimate goal. Why is that assumption necessary? My reasoning doesn't rely on any assumption; there are things without "ultimate goal." Why does Jupiter have Europa as its moon? I can tell you how it got Europa but I can't tell you why and I won't believe if somebody tells me they know why. If you claim that everything has to have a reason, then I resort to the question that made me agnostic; the question that Rethink has asked as well, why does God exist? Who made God? If you say, God made God, then I will say universe made universe. That answer just doesn't jive with my logic.

Uji,"why do something exist at all ?" I thought you already knew the answer to this question from your Vedic literature, or was that just some ass talk. lol !!

What was there before big bang ?   Nothing. Just dark matter.

Why is evolution happening in this planet ?  Umm.. please read Charles Darwin's Theory of Evolution. lol

Are we real ? Really .. Really ? lol !! Why am I talking to you then if you think you are not real.

idk2013, The ultimate reality which I am talking about is 'nothing' and at the same time it is 'everything.' It is neither 'real' nor 'unreal.' It is neither 'male' nor 'female.' It is neither 'existence' nor 'non-existence.' It is neither 'day' nor 'night'. Does this make your head roll all over the places?

Kiddo, you were talking about cause; therefore, I gave some examples. Water is the cause for water vapor. No water, no water vapor. Peroid. Btw, did you come up with an example that doesn't have a cause?

I can't just blame the religious preachers, the tunnel vision syndrome is experienced by any logician every now and then. I told you what I meant by "cause" when I said not everything has a cause, but you keep insisting on your definition of cause (water for water vapor). You want me to fit my answer per your definition.
Fine, let's do that. You said water is the cause of water vapor? Now what does you religious book say behind the cause of water? Maybe you will skip H2 and O part and jump right into atoms. Fine, what's the cause of atom? God? What's the cause of God? There, an object without a cause, (definition of cause per your POV), is God.

Without addressing all those mundane issues, someone asked "What was before the big bang?"

The question is actually irrelevant. Since Time, like space, is a dimension that sprung after the  big bang, one cannot argue by saying what was before it. Before and After are terms used in reference to time. There was no time before the Big Bang. If you're serious about this, listen to Stephen Hawkins explain it beautifully.

Finally, it is OK for religious folks to defend their positions, but please, do yourself a favor, don't bring science and logic in your defense - arguments like "how can something arise from nothing" That is like 500 years ago, when no one understood the moon and called it "God." It looks extremely childish and foolish, especially if you don't understand the very scientific concepts and principles  you're talking about. That is like Deepak Chopra misleading  people by using complex jargon like "quantum spiritualism." But who am i to judge, perhaps you'll milk out millions before people find out :)>

Snurp, as much as we caution the religious folks, I have to say we need to exercise caution also on the statements we made from science. Big bang theory is just a theory. Science theories evolve as we get more empirical data. Never say anything for certain until and unless that has been proven beyond a shadow of doubt (say +/- 3 sigma). What was before big bang? It depends upon what theory you follow, given the assumption that big bang did occur.

It was revealed to a illiterate person: prophet Muhammad (s.a.w.)

Monotheism, belief in one God, is the most important and foundational concept in Islam. Muslims believe in one God who created the universe and has power over everything within it. He is unique and exalted above everything He creates, and His greatness cannot be compared to His creation. Furthermore, He is the only one deserving of any worship and the ultimate purpose of all creation is to submit to Him. The Islamic understanding of God is distinct from all other religions and beliefs in various respects since it is based on a pure and clear understanding of monotheism. This essentially captures the concept of God in Islam, which will be further elaborated in this pamphlet.

Muslims often refer to God as Allah. This is a universal name for God and does not refer to an exclusively ‘Islamic’ God. Interestingly, this name is related to the Aramaic and Hebrew names for God, Allaha and Elohim. Therefore, Allah is simply the Arabic name for God which affirms that He is One singular God with no partners or equals. The name Allah cannot be pluralized or limited to a specific gender, which establishes that God is One and that He is unique from everything He creates. Muslims continue to use this original Arabic name for God (Allah) since it perfectly expresses His unique qualities.

God is the Creator and the Sustainer of the universe who created everything for a reason. Muslims believe that He created humankind with a simple purpose – to worship Him. He sent messengers to guide people in fulfilling this purpose. Some of these messengers include Adam, Noah, Abraham, Moses, Jesus, and Muhammad, peace be upon all of them. They all taught a consistent message about God by affirming His greatness as the Creator and guiding people to worship Him alone. This basic concept has always resonated with people’s natural understanding of God.

When the final prophet, Muhammad, peace be upon him (pbuh), was asked about God, the answer came directly from God in the holy book of Muslims, the Quran (also spelled ‘Koran’): “Say, ‘He is God the One, God the eternal. He begot no one nor was He begotten. No one is comparable to Him.’” [112:1-4] This is a clear statement by God describing Himself to humanity without any room for confusion. God is One and is exalted above everything He creates and He is capable over all things.

Fully accepting the oneness of God is to accept that He is distinct from everything else. It would not suit God’s majesty and glory to associate the limited attributes of His creation to Him because He is not restricted in any way, while His creation is. He is the First with no beginning and the Last with no end. Everything in the universe was created by His will. He is not confined by space or time and He is the only One who is in control and provides for His creation.

“He is God: there is no god other than Him. It is He who knows what is hidden as well as what is in the open, He is the Lord of Mercy, the Giver of Mercy. He is God: there is no god other than Him, the Controller, the Holy One, Source of Peace, Granter of Security, Guardian over all, the Almighty, the Compeller, the Truly Great; God is far above anything they consider to be His partner. He is God: the Creator, the Originator, the Shaper. The best names belong to Him. Everything in the heavens and earth glorifies Him: He is the Almighty, the Wise.” [Quran, 59:22-24]

Pure Monotheism

“God: there is no god but Him, the Ever Living, the Ever Watchful. Neither slumber nor sleep overtakes Him. All that is in the heavens and in the earth belongs to Him. Who is there that can intercede with Him except by His leave? He knows what is before them and what is behind them, but they do not comprehend any of His knowledge except what He wills. His throne extends over the heavens and the earth; it does not weary Him to preserve them both. He is the Most High, the Tremendous.” [Quran, 2:255]

The primary pillar of Islamic belief clearly states that there is nothing worthy of worship except God. Associating partners with God or attributing qualities of lesser beings to Him is considered to be the greatest sin in Islam.

In the past, this often took the form of idol worship or praying to multiple lesser gods. Although this is less common now, the current era has replaced many of the physical ‘idols’ of the past with other contemporary ‘gods.’ Many people today allow passions like entertainment, drugs, relationships or material objects to become the center of their lives. They become so consumed with these things that they submit to whatever will allow them to fulfill their desires. For example, if a drug addict allows their addiction to control their actions, beliefs, feelings, and behaviors, causing them to risk their personal safety and the safety of others, that drug has essentially become their god. Likewise, if another person puts a loved one before God by obeying that person even if that causes them to transgress against God’s commands, their loved one has taken precedence over God.

Islam teaches that people should completely submit only to God as He is the only One worthy of their worship. He is the Creator and Sustainer of the universe and everything in it belongs to Him. The Quran points out the faulty thinking of those who worship other than God:
“‘How can you worship things you carve with your own hands, when it is God who has created you and all your handiwork?’” [37:95-96]

The Believer’s Surrender

In order to be a true believer, one must believe in the absolute oneness of God, as the only Creator, Preserver and Nourisher of everything. However, this belief in the true characteristics of God is not the sole condition of true faith; one must also acknowledge that God is the only one who deserves to be worshipped. His commands and guidelines for how to live one’s life should always take precedence over the commands of anything He created. Indeed, He guides humanity to what is best for them in this life and the hereafter and He is All-Knowing and All-Wise.

Having embraced this understanding of God, one should constantly have faith in Him, and should remain steadfast on the truth. When true faith enters a person’s heart, it positively impacts their outlook and behavior. The Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) said, “Faith is that which resides firmly in the heart and which is proved by actions.”

One of the striking effects of faith is a feeling of gratitude towards God. Believers love God and are grateful to Him for the blessings He gives them. They are aware of the fact that their good deeds will never be equal to His divine favors upon them so they are always striving to please Him. Furthermore, sincere believers in God accept that any hardships they face are part of the greater ‘test of life.’ They are patient through times of difficulty and turn to God for assistance. A beautiful characteristic of the believers is that they accept everything God wills and continuously remember Him in all aspects of life.

Anyone who denies the basic truth of the existence of God is considered ungrateful and a disbeliever. On many occasions in the Quran, God reminds humanity of the disbelievers’ clear misguidance and His complete power over everything:

“Behold! Verily to Allah belong all creatures, in the heavens and on earth. What do they follow who worship as His “partners” other than Allah? They follow nothing but fancy, and they do nothing but lie.” [10:66]

“It is God who has given you the night in which to rest and the day in which to see. God is truly bountiful to people, but most people do not give thanks. Such is God your Lord, the Creator of all things: there is no god but Him. How can you be so deluded? [40:61-62]

In the end, we must understand that our belief or disbelief in God does not affect Him in any way. Believing in Him, worshipping Him, and following His commands will only benefit us because we are in need of His blessings, favors and mercy. On the other hand, He does not need us because He is the Self-Sufficient Creator. However, it is never too late for a person to turn back to God, seeking His guidance and forgiveness by submitting to Him.

“Say: “O my Servants who have transgressed against their souls! Despair not of the Mercy of Allah: for Allah forgives all sins: for He is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful. Turn ye to our Lord (in repentance) and bow to His (Will), before the Penalty comes on you: after that ye shall not be helped. And follow the best of (the courses) revealed to you from your Lord, before the Penalty comes on you – of a sudden while ye perceive not!” [Quran, 39:53-55]

Why Islam?

If you agree with the basic concepts in thist, you may still ask why Islam stands out from other religions. The reason is simply that Islam is the final and complete way of life that God revealed to guide humanity. Previous divine messages (such as the ones taught by Abraham, Moses and Jesus) have been lost or altered throughout time. God chose to send Muhammad (pbuh) to deliver His final message, which maintains the core teachings of all the previous revelations. The book sent to Muhammad (pbuh) was the Quran, which was revealed as guidance for all of humanity. Just like the Torah sent to Moses and the Gospel sent to Jesus, the Quran is a guidebook teaching us how to worship God in the purest manner and thereby achieve our purpose in life. The Quran is unique because it has remained preserved in its exact and original form for more than 1,400 years.

Islam is not a new way of life; rather, it is the final message, which upholds the same essential beliefs that God sent to humanity through all of His messengers. Through this message, God calls on each individual to lead a conscientious life by drawing close to Him and to remain cognizant of their final accountability in front of the one and only God.

“Has the time not come for those who have believed that their hearts should become humbly submissive at the remembrance of Allah and what has come down of the truth?” [Quran, 57:16]

@ujl,

"The ultimate reality which I am talking about is 'nothing' and at the same time it is 'everything.' It is neither 'real' nor 'unreal.' It is neither 'male' nor 'female.' It is neither 'existence' nor 'non-existence.' It is neither 'day' nor 'night'. Does this make your head roll all over the places?"

Male nor female, day nor night.....Does this make my head roll? Hahahaha...Heck no! 'male nor female'. They are called hijadas...You call your god hijadas? And they created you!!! How nice is that.

Let me answer the question of 'ultimate reality' you see with these kinds of explanation. Your path to such 'reality' is called marijuana. Some people call it weeds, some call it Mary Jane, it is venerated with many names...but it's the same ultimate path that takes you to that kinds of 'ultimate reality'.

Does it make sense to you..or are you still too high to have any sense?

Paul Smith,"It's a matter of salvation my dear brothers and sisters. Please read it before it's too late." Salvation from what ? Your fictional heaven and hell according to religious literature ? he he  Too late to be in a place where no one has ever been to or come back from(except for your religious textbooks and literature) ?

Bathroomcoffee: May peace be with you.

Well my friend, we human beings are not perfect but the way of life chosen by God by submitting Him alone is perfect, His book is without any faults, His creation is without any fault.

1. God Most Gracious!

2. It is He Who has taught the Qur'an.

3. He has created man:

4. He has taught him speech (and intelligence).

5. The sun and the moon follow courses (exactly) computed;

6. And the herbs and the trees - both (alike) bow in adoration.

7. And the Firmament has He raised high, and He has set up the Balance (of Justice),

8. In order that ye may not transgress (due) balance.

9. So establish weight with justice and fall not short in the balance.

10. It is He Who has spread out the earth for (His) creatures:

11. Therein is fruit and date-palms, producing spathes (enclosing dates);

12. Also corn, with (its) leaves and stalk for fodder, and sweet-smelling plants.

13. Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny?

14. He created man from sounding clay like unto pottery,

15. And He created Jinns from fire free of smoke:

16. Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny?

17. (He is) Lord of the two Easts and Lord of the two Wests:

18. Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny?

19. He has let free the two bodies of flowing water, meeting together:

20. Between them is a Barrier which they do not transgress:

21. Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny?

22. Out of them come Pearls and Coral:

23. Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny?

24. And His are the Ships sailing smoothly through the seas, lofty as mountains:

25. Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny?

26. All that is on earth will perish:

27. But will abide (for ever) the Face of thy Lord,- full of Majesty, Bounty and Honour.

28. Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny?

29. Of Him seeks (its need) every creature in the heavens and on earth: every day in (new) Splendour doth He (shine)!

30. Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny?

31. Soon shall We settle your affairs, O both ye worlds!

32. Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny?

33. O ye assembly of Jinns and men! If it be ye can pass beyond the zones of the heavens and the earth, pass ye! not without authority shall ye be able to pass!

34. Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny?

35. On you will be sent (O ye evil ones twain!) a flame of fire (to burn) and a smoke (to choke): no defence will ye have:

36. Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny?

37. When the sky is rent asunder, and it becomes red like ointment:

38. Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny?

39. On that Day no question will be asked of man or Jinn as to his sin.

40. Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny?

41. (For) the sinners will be known by their marks: and they will be seized by their forelocks and their feet.

42. Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny?

43. This is the Hell which the Sinners deny:

44. In its midst and in the midst of boiling hot water will they wander round!

45. Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny?

46. But for such as fear the time when they will stand before (the Judgment Seat of) their Lord, there will be two Gardens-

47. Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny?-

48. Containing all kinds (of trees and delights);-

49. Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny?-

50. In them (each) will be two Springs flowing (free);

51. Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny?-

52. In them will be Fruits of every kind, two and two.

53. Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny?

54. They will recline on Carpets, whose inner linings will be of rich brocade: the Fruit of the Gardens will be near (and easy of reach).

55. Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny?

56. In them will be (Maidens), chaste, restraining their glances, whom no man or Jinn before them has touched;-

57. Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny?-

58. Like unto Rubies and coral.

59. Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny?

60. Is there any Reward for Good - other than Good?

61. Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny?

62. And besides these two, there are two other Gardens,-

63. Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny?-

65. Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny?

66. In them (each) will be two Springs pouring forth water in continuous abundance:

Paul Smith,"We humas are not perfect." Tell me some new pal. If I was I will be your Bhagabaan. lol !!

Paul Smith,"Way of life chosen by god by submitting him alone is perfect." Says who ? Name one Human being that has accomplished this besides the Religious figures described by each and every religion.

Paul Smith,"His book is without any fault."  You are so naive. If all the books were perfect and if we all followed it accordingly... shouldn't we all be gods ?" lol !!

Paul Smith,"His creation is perfect." Tell that to the physically disabled folks, tell that to the victims of natural disasters, to the people murdered in the name of your perfect god.

And to the rest of copy and paste that you post, I am not going to bother to respond to all that gibberish.

Worship the Creator not the creation: The most popular amongst all the Hindu scriptures is the Bhagavad Gita.

Consider the following verse from the Gita:
"Those whose intelligence has been stolen by material desires surrender unto demigods and follow the particular rules and regulations of worship according to their own natures." (Bhagavad Gita 7:20) The Gita states that people who are materialistic worship demigods i.e. ‘gods’ besides the True God.

Fine, let's take your path and start quoting religious textures as it they are absolute truth.

Now you quoted a verse of Bhagvat Geeta, without knowing or understanding the context; you must be working for Fox News.

You want me to elaborate? Let's do that.
This is the verse you quoted

7:20
kamais tais tair hrta-jnanah
prapadyante 'nya-devatah
tam tam niyamam asthaya
prakrtya niyatah svaya

This is Krishna speaking. He is saying that materialistic minds surrender to demigods which is bad. Yes, that's what you said, but did you read the next few verses?

7:22
sa taya sraddhaya yuktas
tasyaradhanam ihate
labhate ca tatah kaman
mayaiva vihitan hi tan

Pay attention to the last two lines:
(translated from asitis.com):
labhate--obtains; ca--and; tatah--from which; kaman--desires; maya--by Me; eva--alone;vihitan--regulated; hi--for; tan--those.
Or, Krishna is claiming that he alone regulates and bestows those benefit to the humankind.

Krishna is basically saying we should all pray him, not any other God. Now, you could come up with any interpretation as you chose. Krishna could be your senses, Krishna could be in your heart or it could be a superior God that we pray.

You might now say Krishna is Jesus, then; sure you can say that. I will then point you back to what he is saying in this verse; ONLY HIM, NO OTHER GOD!! Not even father of Jesus!!!

I do not say Krishana was Jesus. I believe Jesus was a prophet of GOD. I also believe GOD does not have son. Just to let you know, original Sanatana Dharma avoids idol worship. May i know what would be your view on this:

Sanskrit: "Ekam evadvitiyam"
English: "He is One only without a second." (Chandogya Upanishad 6:2:1)

I worship one God.
