Lahureism is a profession. Instead of asking them, "why did you join in the British army?," ask yourself-why did I come to USA?" Its obvious that everybody wanna be rich and n have prosperous life. This led people to go in different sectors. I don't blame those Gurkhas who were fighting in the Great wars blindly. You are here in USA, some are in Gulf countries, some in India. So, why do these guys comment on others. Rather try to look at yourself if you got a mirror at your rented apartment.

God Bless us.

Sidster, watch you language. Though its public forum that does not mean that you take liberty into using crude language to degrade other peopl. What do you mean by the lahures were by fighting dog ?

So far I was patient enough to read negative comments about laure but you seem to make me really really pissed off wiht  comments.

The lahure runs the economy of Nepal and if you are so noble in thinking, please head back to Nepal and practice what you agreed with. And don't ever think about lahurey as a mercenry who knows nothing next to using thier weapons and following orders. The modern lahurey has evolved into somthing more and are equipped more knowledge than you me.

If you want respect than learn to respect others, Sidster. Just don't blatantly rambled on wtihout taking into consideration what kind of language you are using.

You called yourself educated perosnel who leads a class at the age of 25 thats good for you. Hopefully, like I said before, you will be in Nepal making the impact in peoples life by investing your time and money. In the meantime, work hard.

The truth is without lahures, Nepal would still be behind closed doors.

Lahures open up the door, lahures gave Nepalese that they are green pastures on the other side of the bank,

In summary Lahures brought modernisation to janajatis and indigineous people of Nepal.

Without Lahureism, indigineous people of Nepal would have fare worse than dalits and madhesis.

It is because of their COURAGE to leave the comfort of their HOME and their LOVE ones, Lahures make it BIG!

so why compalint about lahures...............just because some of their sons and daughters didn't do well in school....!

I guess I missed a lot here. Sorry guys, was busy working. And I don't work in MC Donalds like you Sumedhu neither did I spend my father's money drinking in a barbeque. Please make note of this thing, not all Lahure's children are addicts and if you goto Nepal, you can find lots of Bahun and Newar and other castes involved in addiction too. Now what you do with your life is entirely dependant on your personal decisions, don't bring your personal issue here and try to relate it to how lahure raise their children. I'm sure your father did not torture you to be who you are today. Sumedhu, you seem like a lost kid, and it's really funny you trying to be so enlightened and intellectual, frankly speaking, I never saw any concrete reasoning in your statements. WTF, what does lahure have to do with someone else taking drugs, or someone farting in your nose lol. I understand, people needs to be educated but not everyone would have that privilege or budget, want to be or could be doctors or engineers. There's a lot of other hidden factors that comes into play in everyone's life and desires. And I don't see a big deal in being one of them, name one doctor or engineer who don't take fees for their service. They are all professionals and everything is about MONEY. Now lahure ko history, that's entirely different subject, and they are proud of it, and happy. The economy of Nepal is a different subject. For the jerk who compared the IT guy to the lahure, dude if you compare the pension and the salary of the IT dude in Nepal, I think the lahure can hire four of this IT teachers to wash his dishes. By the way, I'm a Computer Engineer in Hong Kong and I work for money too. I'm proud to be a Gurkhas son, proud of their history and I do appreciate being a part of this family. Having said that, I just don't waste my time uttering nonsense like Sumedhu and other crap supporters, because eventually it's you who is going to pave your path for your own future. Uhi sansar kai  ra sahi kura ko choro(Limbu is just my caste)

Sorry to intrude upon this civil discussion but I always wanted to find out what being Gorkhali implied. Do you have to have ancestorial roots in Gorkha to be a gorkhali or do you inherit the gorkhali title with your Nepali citizenship?

Which brings me to my other questions. Are all the jawans registered in british army or indian army descendants of Gorkha? I am sure a lot of them are from different parts of Nepal. So why the big buzz on the word 'gorkha' instead of Nepal ??

This is not even a subject of discussion. What they did was good, considering the time and situation. Things could have been done in a better way; that is another issue. But why are you guys dil chhotaa paaring by wondering about possibilities in past when we have to plan about glorious possibilities in future?

for so much bravery or even for money, you know how much these poor Gurkha soldiers were paid in comparison with the british soldier of similar rank. It is such a shame that they call you 'brave' and give you 'peanuts'.

I think it is only recently that they have been paid better. It is really sad how we Nepalis get so proud when someone else call us 'Brave' and consider us 'cheap labor' and uses the same soldiers in the forefront in the war in Kosovo so that if anything happens they killed first. With such a brave history, there seem to be so much exploitation within.

Samsara,

No disagreements over the bravery of "Gurkhas" (i think thats how the british and others spell them) I am sure have always been brave.

At a time when our nation is on the very edge of a precipice, even some bright spots of glory amidst our gloomy/dark past and present is more of an unwanted abberation, or at least i think so.

Andhakaar raat ma jaba kasaile achanak batti balcha ni, kehi pal ka lagi akha lai asajilo huncha ni.

i hope you see the analogy! And  yeah, you addrees me as a fool...thats kool dude....i am sure you are a very smart man!

And i know its very disrespectful of me but just a line to ponder on if you have some free moments............. "the loudest one in the room is usually the weakest one"............

Grungemaster1,

"For the jerk who compared the IT guy to the lahure, dude if you compare the pension and the salary of the IT dude in Nepal, I think the lahure can hire four of this IT teachers to wash his dishes. I agree that a Lahure makes/will make 4 times of other profession In Nepal. I am a full support of foreign employment as well. I say everyone who has an ability to go outside of our country to bring money home should do so. If you have an ability to leave the country as a teacher, IT worker, doctor, engineer, lawyer, LAHURE, maid, construction worker, prostitute, model or whatever you should. People who have ability to leave and create employment for themselves somewhere else should leave the country. Two reasons, first that would help the country with remittance and second will leave the scare jobs to the ones who doesnt have an ability to get out of the country. And everyone is free to do whatever they want for their best. If becoming a Lahure is 4 times better than becoming an IT guy then he should become a Lahure.

But ITS NO WAY IN HELL THAT BECOMING A LAHURE AND FIGHTING FOR ANOTHER COUNTRY FOR "GOD KNOWS WHY" REASON IS A NATIONAL PRIDE.

I think we are deviating from the initial thought this thread originator had started. The point here is not to bash Lahures...but to acknowledge that  being a Lahure is not a  national pride, its a foreign employment and we should not sing a  national song about Lahure's fighting for Bush in Iraq or Lahure's fighting for India in Kasmir. When we sing about how the "powerfuls" have used us the "powerless" its an embarrassment. Lets just do what we are all best at and not sing a song about it without fully understanding the context.

Sister oops Sidster,
Slip of the tongue is not the fault of mine, no bones there...lol.
"If becoming a Lahure is 4 times better than becoming an IT guy then he should become a Lahure." It's an individual's choice and depends on the circumstances you are surrounded with.
"But ITS NO WAY IN HELL THAT BECOMING A LAHURE AND FIGHTING FOR ANOTHER COUNTRY FOR "GOD KNOWS WHY" REASON IS A NATIONAL PRIDE."
Yes it is a national pride because they excelled in the jobs they were hired for, they made the sacrifices when the world needed them for the right cause back then and the world is aware of that. I would be proud of you too if you could paint out your own identity in whatever job of your choice you undertake. Most of them weren't raised with the education and financial freedom to the extent like you who could goto U.S and study.
"I think we are deviating from the initial thought this thread originator had started."
Please go and check, this whole thread started with the history of lahure. You don't need to feel sorry for them, they don't need your sympathy. You weren't there when they needed you neither Nepal. But instead they've given a lot in return to their country.
"When we sing about how the "powerfuls" have used us the "powerless" its an embarrassment."
It's a lot more embarassing how people treat them in Nepal than the way how the British treat them.
"The point here is not to bash Lahures...but to acknowledge that  being a Lahure is not a  national pride, its a foreign employment and we should not sing a  national song about Lahure's fighting for Bush in Iraq or Lahure's fighting for India in Kasmir."
Your skin, heart and mentality doesn't change all of a sudden when you start working for a foreign country. That's their job, like Nepalese people washing dishes, working in a gas station or mowing a lawn in the U.S. They won't looked upon down by me, they are still my country people if they consider to be one and they have their own stories to tell. Life is not a bed of roes and noone is perfect. We are all different but without anyone of us, we are just incomplete. So don't try to waste your time criticizing, bringing about the weaknesses in the people around you. You will be much adored if you strengthen their weaknesses and improve on their brighter side.
Note: If you have time and money, watch "The band of brothers", TV series directed by Steven Spielberg, and you will understand the other side of the coin.

The whole irony of this is that all the ignoramus' above who find fault in the Gorkhali's mercinarism (if ever a word exists), are themselves abroad slaving their azzes off.  Just because you got no recognition in your 9-5 job (or in some cases, worse), I can see where your inner green-eyed monster stems from.  As far as I see, only grungemaster has the credibility to put up or shut up the Gurkha legacy since he's currently in HK, the heart of the British Gurkha regiment in Asia (until '97).  All others, c'mon stop faking on this site.  You've probably only heard the Gurkha's way of life while this cat seems to have lived it (or through it...My rational holds true for all in the UK and Singapore too)...And you know what they say about pozeys!!

justhuman, ever heard the 80-20 rule that B-Schools stick to like it was the commandment itself??  Well, here's the top bad-boy (the amazin-blazin-azian) on the 20% exception to your "loudest" cliche.  hahaha   Where do we get these motley minstrel wannabes from whose fables and deep-dead-buried cliches have left me with ear-sores?  hahahah

And I don't work in MC Donalds like you Sumedhu neither did I spend my father's money drinking in a barbeque.

for above statement, i guess it is quite obvious for one to defend himself. As i mentioned before about drinking with Lahure Mama in BBQ. Fortunately, there are lot of people who work their ass off and support their own life. It doesn't mean to ask for money from parents for BBQ. O.K. I trust you after you said you are computer engineer. I know lot of Hong Kong mates after living there for last 9 years. It doesn't mean i spend my time there working in Mac Donalds by the way only few works in Mac Donalds in Hong Kong.
I am glad you made in the place like Hong Kong and getting job as Computer Engineer. I know few friends who works in Liquor shop or as bartender being IT Professionals, Doctor or even MBA.
The success story of Prakash Pun, Tejander Rai, Bidya Limbu and success of Universal Computer Institude with Cyber getting expansion was awesome. Hopefully, you are walking in same path as those enterperenurs. It may be Chakra ( John) Thapa opening popular nite club, Shiva Bahadur K.C. Knowing as King of SOHO, Central. I wish you all the best.
Only request is not to judge people like me who will go and ask for father's money to blow in bbq.

Moneyminded, that message was for Sumedhu and not you. That was a reply to him because he was judging people around and I can't stand morons trying to act smart based on assumptions and own made crap theories. And brother, every one does chill out every once in a while, you need to. I didn't even know that I was having a conversation with you. I don't really care about who I am or what I'm gonna be, everyone could be anyone if they really want to be. I don't have any wish to judge anyone when I don't understand myself at times, we all have our own reasons whatsoever. I stayed in UK for 6 months last year, and I had a lotta fun barbequeing with those Mamas. Have fun mate.
