"The moral progress of a nation can be
judged by the way it treats its animals" - Gandhi

Dear Friends,
Only history will prove how true and visionary Gandhi was when he said those words when India was fighting against the British occupation.During the struggle that nation was also fighting its own social ills.In fact British played the role of catalyst in indian fight against "Sati" system which they thought was nonsense.Just an example.
As we all know the great festival of "Dashain" is nearing. It is the greatest festival because it represents the triumph of "good" over "evil".I have no idea what "good" and "evil" we are talking about here. And,I don't think I will ever be clear on that over my life time.
There are only good memories of Dashain for us as Nepalis.Once again we are ready to celebrate Dashain like any previous year. And,of course we are going to sacrifice thousands of animals and flood our holy temples with blood.Lord Durga will be happy that we are going to do so.There will be blood everywhere.Good humans who are good and strong by nature are going to kill evil animals who are weak by nature. We will cherish on such occasion.
Nonetheless, there is an exception cow is an exception. We recieve milk from cow(and thats why its holy) but not from goat or buffalo.Wait a minute.I have drank more milk from buffalo than cow.But aren't all the mo-mos sold in kathmandu comes from the same buffalo that we recieve milk as well.Just a thought.
Why does the greatest festival of Nepal have to be the great violent celebration too?We are strong and animals aren't.We have to sacrifice the weaker ones so that we human can grow stronger.Does that represent our deepest philosophy of how we should continue to exist?Millions of sacrifices in the past and did it make any difference?Or now we have become so deeply religious that we have started to target our own fellow beings instead of animals and instead of Dashain its all year around. And that's why we have ceasefire during the time of dashain. Is Durga happy?

Why the hell would I be excited about such a petty shit like the caste thing? I mean if you weren't happy with what you were born into I understand, but I was perfectly satisfied... Still am!

Excited that our society is slowly evolving.Nothing can stop a well-intention social/psychological movement. If society needs to advance for the betterment of its fellow human beings itself has to get rid of its backwardedness thinking. Why do you change clothes when they don't suit you?It is same with the dogmas. If it is not compatible with time it has to completely extinct.
P.S:Healthy disagreement is often the sign of progress.Isn't this exciting?

I wear clothes that suits my youthfulness and my character.I donot wear what some older generations feel comfortable to wear and hence I change my outfits as time demands. And it looks like you are just being frustrated that you were naive enough to accept whatever was handed down to you.And when some young minds disagree with their older spheres you are mute.I understand. The only fear I fear is fear itself.Hence,I speak.

WTF,
You are missing the point here.It is not about eating meat.It is about dogmatic beliefs and our violent minds that encourages this sort of behavior.Like I have said earlier I am not encouraging vegetarianism here.
I am trying to raise the voice against certain baseless dogams that is still practiced in Nepal to merely please the god.iZen
P.S:Foul languages are discouraged.Reflects our sick minds.:)

Vishnotar wrote Hindus (those who live form Indus river to Himalaya),at time of Buddha, did kill and eat cow

Visnotar Ji, I am confuse now, is it true during Mahabharat era hindus started worshiping COW.

If Buddha had preached against slaughtering COW, how come mongols eat cow ?

- About Bali, so far what I have undertood is, the BALI Pratha was initially based on Trantrik Believes. Signature of Hindu culture is puranic not tantrik. Tantrik culture was later adopted in from the practices of Indigenous people then were living in Indian Subcontinent.

So,Why would you want to follow the indigenous rituals while ignoring our own holy scriptures? This is a serious matter that reflects our state of mind as a Nepali. To folks who think that I have declined to listen to my forefathers I have to tell them I am simply asking then what authority gave a green signal to whoever encouraged these nonsense rituals.

Binodbro,
Past is past.We have all sinned in the past and learned from our mistakes.I am not sure if you are aware of this story that made headlines few months back. When our King visited India some temple is Assam to be specific. Some animal rights activists we frowning on his plan for a sacred "Bali" rituals. Some went so far to grilled him saying he represented a culture of "killings".Well the "Tandab Nritya" of some violent minds in Nepal in the last few years have obviously added some evidence to their claim.
There is no difference between what Nepalese image have become in the last few years and our century old "tradition" of killings.
Welcome aboard

Prem_dai,
You are worried about the screen when not a single dashain celebration pass through sow sort of "Ragat Ko Holi" in our temples. And coincidentally now not a single day in nepal goes by with out a "Human ragat ko holi".I have to admit we have evolved from animals to humans.
P.S:Remember, the pic above is part of our culture.Isn't it or is it?

There is no point argueing on this issue.
Its east vs west.
If the westerners had not told these morons who are voicing protest against animal cruelty, they would not have known any better. Its the whole colonial mentality. Why can't people just leave others alone, they have to mold it to their own(western standard). Like watching those tourist blowing chunks when they see animal sacrifices in Nepal. I am Buddhist by religion but a firm believer of people's right to practice their religion the way they want. Its just funny to see these morons criticising their own culture. Its one thing to disagree but another to try and change your cultural history(influenced by westerners). KNOW WHO WHO ARE AND WHERE YOU CAME FROM BEFORE YOU START MIMICKING OTHER CULTURES.
