Do not oppose while we talk about RACISM in Nepal.

It is a democratic rights, Civil rights and Freedom of speech & Expression.

If you want democracy, you have to accept others democratic rights, too.

Why we hide racism of Nepal?

I agree with "Kalkc".

I do not agree with "philomath" looser....

Every Nepalese know that We have big Racism problem in Nepal. Even street dogs know that.

We have to understand our national the key problems, and find the solution about it.

So before that, we have to talk about our social, cultural, political and governmental problems and issues.

It is the best way to do and democratic way to do it. Instead of rise guns and arms.

Do you agree with it?

Nobody can hide the truth that Nepal is the top country in the world there is high recism. We supposed not to talk abou the recism and it is against the humanity and civilization. Forget about only in Nepal, a so-called lower caste person can not share an apartment with so called high caste nepalese in USA. Still they bring the traditional superstition from Nepal to the civilized society, US as gift from stupid nepalese. Because of recism there is hatred between among nepalese people and someday there might be big fight to each other and which divides nepal and don't worry about dividing nepalese they are already done. I suggest you guys to take a look back the problem of dalit people in Nepal in 21st century.

In Nepal,

Racism (Bahunism) must End before, any new political changes or new democracy change.

If Racism end, we will have true Democracy in Nepal.

We destroyed too many times Nepali Democracy because of Deep Stinky Racism in Nepal.

I am mix person from mix families.

However, I feel that we have stinky racism problem in our social, political and Nepal governmental sectors.

Questions are:

How come majority one or two race people are only employ in Nepali government Offices and Political parties?

How other more than 30 races people or native Nepalese people suppose to raise their social life …. If they do not get priority in education, employment and participation in political parties?

How we suppose to establish democracy and implement without equal opportunity and equal rights?

Should we ignore and let country collapse or should we think differently in 20th century?

My opinion that talking about Racism, Diversity, Ethnicity, Freedom, Bad people are not Racist act or bad mentality? It is democratic rights and freedom of speech and expression.

But hiding truth, reality and ignorance of bad behavior are the worst mentality. First thing you never learn what is good and bad.

That is what believes it.

I dont think its racism to talk about racism. Yes we do have racism in Nepal, there is no doubt about it, i dont think there is any country out there where racism doesnt exist. In case of Nepal Racism is more extreme because of the more ignorant people over wise and rational ones. I think that the discrimination in nepal is based on "have and have nots" A bhote who has enuff can freely discriminate a "have not" bahun and vice versa.

More likely i think nepal is a country run by good old boys. Like in the movie goodfellas, wise guys...remember the times when ppl like D B lama, Bharat gurung, something tharu, and something shrestha including several bhauns and chettries were robbin the whole country and im sure they still do. Im sure that each race in nepal is sometimes not polite about eachother races and make some stupid sterio type comments every now and than but we still dont have the racism that we experience the type of racism that we experience here in US. Its the discrimination betn haves and have nots...not the racism. We who live in US know what racism is.

Racism is diffent than ethnicity. In Nepal, so far I know we have ethinic discrimination or more precisely caste discrimination not racial discrimination. Racism prevails in the U.S. thus, being discriminated based on primarily on physiological differnces (hair, skin, facial features, LANGUAGE) or most importantly putting you in boxes of Asian-American, Afro-American, Mexican-America, etc.

Therefore, if we want to discuss about discrimination in Nepal, it woudl be better to address "ethnic" discrimation-bahun, Newar, and Gurung (caste???) -or Indo-Aryan or Tibeto-Burman.

But Un and foreigners whoa re trying to solve Nepalese political problems finally realized and openly came up with this:

Nepalis suffering from racial discrimination on daily basis: UN

The United Nations has said that large numbers of Nepalis, especially members of the Dalit and indigenous people as well as refugees and other ethnic communities, are suffering from racial discrimination on a daily basis.

In a press statement issued on the occasion of International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, the United Nations (UN) system in Nepal said, "In Nepal, this is a crucial day to reflect on the impact that racial discrimination has on the lives of all Nepalese. It is also an opportunity to commit to action to address and eliminate such hindering practices."
Matthew Kahane (File Photo)

“Fighting racism and discrimination should not be seen as a campaign of charity but one of social justice that is needed for the economic and social progress of Nepal,” the statement quoted UN Resident Coordinator, Matthew Kahane as saying.

“Discriminating any group of people ignores a critical mass of human potential and closes doors to development,” he added.

Caste-based discrimination has been recognized as a critical problem worldwide, with particular impact in South Asia. In Nepal nearly 40 percent population falls under so called Dalit and indigenous, which are considered as untouchables.

The 1990 constitution of the Kingdom of Nepal clearly states that discrimination against anyone on the ground of caste and race is subject to punishment. The legal provision however has not proved adequate to solve the issue of caste discrimination and untouchability.

“Nepal has international and domestic legal obligations to take action to eliminate caste-based discrimination,” said Kahane, adding, “But today, we would like to focus on the issue of everyday racism and on how we can all take action to address what should be considered a great challenge to all Nepalese, women and men, girls and boys, from all walks of life.”

“Today, is a day for all of us to stop and think about what we could do to help eliminate racial discrimination in our communities: in the schools, the workplaces, in the village and towns. Small actions may trigger big changes,” Kahane further said.

U N secretary general Kofi Annan, in his message on the occasion of International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, said, “We are all aware that many of man’s greatest atrocities have had racial underpinnings, but the collective toll inflicted by routine racism is frequently overlooked.”

The UN has chosen the theme “Fighting Everyday Racism” to commemorate the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination. nepalnews.com pb Mar 21 06

Why do you confuse or lost?

Definition of Racism by English dictionary:

Racism or Racialism is a form of discrimination based on race, especially the belief that one race is superior to another. Racism may be expressed individually and consciously, through explicit thoughts, feelings, or acts, or socially and unconsciously, through institutions that promote inequality between races.

Yes, we have deep "Racism problem" in Nepali Education, Politics, Government employment, Social and Cultural practices.

there is a systematic racism in nepal. it is embedded within a soceity. it was and is a part of our culture (i am not approving it, just telling you what i think).
kaha bata aayo bhanne kura chahi jaba bahuns migrated from modern day india, and settled around modern-day nepal, they classified themselves as the highest caste and classifed others as loweer caste so that they can become the most powerful and respected class in society. simple as that. no rocket science needed.
