I am from a bahun family, and the girl I love is chhetri. My MOM & DAD are educated person(both are professors) and I thought they wouldnot belive in caste system. But when I told them a love that gal, they said it is impossible. I haven;t talked with them bu they think she is from lower caste. I don't want to hurt their feelings but what about mine?? And the gal's? I don't know what to do? Would you all dare to go against you parent's decision?? I need some good comments, it is really a serious matter and I think you all guys are very good to help me out...

Development of Untouchability
 Till 300BC the Varna system developed to the level of untouchability.
 All Shudras were referred to as untouchables.
 The offspring of the Shudras, unhygienic labors, those who were punished as decrease in their caste and others were gradually referred to as untouchables.
 Untouchability practiced by wining over the community that did not have any caste division
 Untouchability was later developed so as to divide the unity between the Shudras, slaves and Baishya
 Untouchability gave birth to several sub-castes under the Shudras
 Sub-castes represented different professions.
 The professions were then classified into hierarchical position in the society.
 This later developed into discrimination between the castes of the Shudras
 Untouchability rooted itself into the Shudras too.
 The practice of untouchability existed in the other Varna too.
 Shudras were put aside form the knowledge, education and Shastras.
 The main theme behind untouchability and its application to refrain unity of the Shudras and Baishyas.
 During the Puran era (100BC-1200AD) and Shankaracharya Era (778-820 AD) this culture had become stricter and spread into the whole Indian sub-continent.
Untouchability and Ancient Nepal
 Nepal (current Basmati Zone) was ruled by Mongols who were naturalists or devotees of the nature.
 The Kirat Mundhum (100AD) did not have any caste division concept in it.
 After 100AD Buddhists, Brahmins, Shakyas, Bideha, Kolich, Lichhawi, Malla entered Nepal.
 In 200 AD, the Kirat rule demolished and the rule of the Indian based Lichhawis started.
 During 200-879 AD the caste hierarchy system flourished in their regime.
 The society of Nepal was divided into 4 castes and 18 sub-castes.
 In 600 AD untouchability was formally implemented in Nepal.
 In 879 AD, the Mallas took over the rule and started hindunisation of Nepal.
 During 1360-1395 AD King Jayastithi Malla divided the society into 4 castes and 64 sub-castes through his Manav Nyaya Shastra.
 During 1300 AD Muslims invaded India and the Indian Brahmins and Hindus escaped to the present Southern Nepal or the Terai.
 During 1600 AD the Indian Brahmins and Kshetriyas moved to the Western Nepal.
 This affected the 26 point Declaration 'Chabbis Thiti' issued by King Ram Shah of Gorkha (1605AD-1636 AD).
 Ram Shah divided the society into thirty-six castes that spoke four languages and further solidified this concept of social division.
 In 1000BC, King Janak of Mithila created a Brahman Sabha, which reflects strict following of the caste hierarchy system.
 During 500-600AD, Sahalesh, a Mithila God, who was strictly against the caste system came into rise.
 During 1087-1325AD caste based registration of the citizens in this region came into existence.

Untouchability and Modern Nepal
 King Prithivi Narayan Shan, initiated the formation of Hindu Kingdom.
 This resulted in formation of a modern Nepal based caste system and untouchability.
 In 1816 AD the Sugauli Treaty created Terai resided by groups that followed the caste hierarchy system.
 The New Nepal resulted in increase of practice of untouchability amidst the Buddhists and the Naturalists too.
 The Janajatis (indigenous community) were also gradually trained to follow the pattern of untouchability
 Prime Minister Bhimsen Thapa (1863-1896 AD) added another brick to the foundation of untouchability
 The 1854 civil code ratified the traditional custom by defining untouchability in the law.
 King Mahendra in 1960 declared all citizens not to think themselves as untouchables
 In 1962 Nepal was declared as a Hindu nation
 Civil Code 1963, declared untouchability as a crime .
 The 1990-Constitution, the Civil Rights Act-1955 and the Defamation Act-1963 are some of the major breakthrough.
 In 1964, with the land reform policy, there were speculations on relief to the victims of untouchability;
 Constitution of the Kingdom of Nepal 1990 strictly provisioned untouchability as a punitive crime.
 In 2001, the state issued an eight point charter for the elimination of untouchability.
 In 2003 untouchability was annexed under Annex A of the Nepal State party cases Act 1992 as a severe nature criminal offence.

International Obligations
• Universal Declaration of Human Rights 1948
• International Convention on Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination, 1965 (ICERD) was ratified by Nepal in 1971.
• International Convention of the Suppression and Punishment of the Crime of Apartheid, 1973 was ratified by Nepal in 1977.

In my opinion intercast marriages should be incouraged. Only in Nepal and India we have cast system and we descriminate each other. The cast system should go away.

if the guy is chettri and gal is bahun.. then there is way no chance for marriage coz since time immemorial bahuns are doin there path puja .. when ever religious festivals comes.. bahuns comes to the chettrys home for puja and things... chettryz do bow down to bahuns coz they are the peoples who does da religious things like pooja...

more then that chettry pplz wont let bahun kt for marriage.. i know its bitter but its truth..
and i hate this intercast thing.. but vast majority in nepal do belive religious things..
but i donr understand y not chettry gal cant be married wid bahun kta...

Well, I talked with the gal's mom in phone. I was so afraid, what the heck I am doing. I was such a shy guy who can't even watch other gals in their face. Now, i am talking with my would be mother in law.
You know, there was rumor in my locality that I asked my gal's hand with her mother in phone. That was a total bullshit. But If such thing can spread like a malady, then think what if I marry that gal. They will talk in headlines in local newspaper. N I don't want to disrepute my DAD & MOM. Everyone in the society respect them, N i don't want to be a son like KAMAL THAPA, TULASHI GIRI or PRACHANDA who betrayed their NEPAL mother

In my case is not only about caste system, it was not easy but not impossible, my parents gave me the education that I have now and they know and have confidence in the decisions that I took, and of course that I respect to my parents and their advices, I am happily married with engineer in computer systems, she is from Mexico, the point here is that we share the same moral values, and many other ways of thinking, we are just two human beings with the same problems like any other couple, I do not believe in caste system although I respect and love my culture, but not this caste system.

There is no right or wrong questions or solution in such cases. One has to go with the situaton and compromise with it. Definitely parents can't be avoided neither GF. However GF is avoidable as well. Make the right decision as time comes.

1. talk with girl, explain the situation.
2. if she says that is fine (leave me), in short term definitely that will be hard.
3. gradually you will learn to Take Sas with out rememebering her.
4. Jindagi Ho jasari pani chalchha, but grab the best out of it.
5. You will begin to like and or love Bahuni -chosen by parents- in long term anyway. if that would have to be your option.
6. You make your choice.
