I don’t understand why we Nepalese take extreme pride in the Gurkha Army that serves the British Empire. More than anything what bugs me the most is that the people who are proud of Gurkha army are not even brave enough to say it is Gorkha and not Gurkha. Well, that is a big hypocrisy.
Most of my family members were and are in the British and Indian army. I am proud of them because they took a dangerous profession to earn their livelihood and support the family. That’s it. There is nothing else to be proud of them.
And may be to be proud in the earnings of a son, husband or a brother through gurkha army is understandable. But taking pride in them for the guns they fire or the blades they strike at the people who Nepal has no connections. It is simply absurd.
What is the reason for us to be proud? Is it because we fought in world war I,II and many other battles? That is something to be proud for some people. But now, I don’t see any reason.

I always wondered why people were fine being called gurkaa, guu khaa etc when it's supposed to be Gorkha.

I feel disgusted when people call Gurkha instead of Gorkhali. Why do we let foreigners modify our identity?
And CYKA, respect to you bro. Being from a family whose father and grandfathers were in army, you are not blindfolded.
Yes, there is nothing to be proud of being hired for fighting in foreign wars.

I think this gurkha mentality( blood and khukuri )has brainwashed many nepalese. Even the songs are about chopping heads off and spilling blood. And we take pride in that. I am glad that im not the only who who thinks so. Thanks guys. I
