I recently got my US Citizenship. Is relinquishment of Nepali citizenship mandatory process ? I checked the Nepalese embassy website and looks like it's a fairly straight process.

I have many friends who are naturalized US citizens. When inquiring about the relinquishment of Nepalese citizenship, they don't have a clue and haven't done any formal relinquishment process. Perhaps, our Nepalese law isn't clear and there's no mechanism to cross check of dual citizenship in Nepal. What are the consequences if I don't relinquish Nepalese citizen ? I believe if you do want to get a Non Resident Nepali (NRN) ID, you will have send the Nepali citizenship relinquishment documents.

I wish that nepal has dual citizenship.

You relinquish nepalese citizenship by not using the Nepalese Passport or Nepalese Citizenship card at all for immigration or legal purposes. No need to apply for anything. For NRN ID application, they don't ask for a separate evidence of relinquishment.

I believe you have to turn over your nagarikata to get NRN card.
