I think as long as your old passport is valid, it should be okay to process the H1B document. you definitely need the mrp when you are visiting or flying from Nepal. Just call Nepal Embassy in USA and ask them.

There will be no problem regarding your H1 even if your current passport expires before you get your MRP which will take around 3 months to get. the only thing is you can't travel until u get MRP.
