Alliswell, congtratulation! how wonderful family you have now with a baby. I dont mean to be rude or trying to interfere in your personal/family matter. My curiosity is, you still carry out that ritual with a bahun in this modern day?. I am sorry again.

And, why do you still need BAHUN to do these activities? Can't you live without Bahun's such so called holy activities? Leave Bahuns alone. Don't insult Bahuns with such rudhibadhi activities. You can bring any person with any caste if you are modern-aged person.

What does Bahun have that your caste does not? Don't put yourself down. Caste does not exist anymore but family's last name does.
- Just a thought.

I don't think he meant bahun as in caste (jaat).  What he is looking for is a bahun who works as a priest to do nwaran for his child.  If you know of any such bahun, let him know.  Help out, don't be a cynic.

agree with nepali_american. but the way all is well stated Bauns it was lil derogatory. people use the word pandits and most of them are bauns and if people wanted to belittle pandits they called them bauns.

Yup, but to be honest, I did not know the word "bahun" is a derogatory term.  Is it, really?

Here we go again.  This is a direct reflection of what happens in Nepal on a daily basis.  Now wonder we are stuck cause we choose to dwell in these petty lil matters.

Why do you need Bahun? Forget about the caste. There are so many other caste people in Sansrkit University in Nepal. You better call it "BAHUN", instead call it pandit, or pujari or something that closely resembles. There are so many bahuns in Jersey areas but they can not perform ritual stuffs but if you you call a pandit, perhaps s/he can perofrm it.

Good luck on your finding ...

@ alliswell
If you can't find one here in NJ. I have an idea for you.
Tell your parents to bring one 'Bahun' or 'Pundit' home back in Nepal. You guys stay in front of skype, both back home and here. 'Bahun' does his work at Nepal and you guys do whatever he tell you through skype. Thats like bringing 'Bahun' home by the means of technology.
Take it easy

Monkey's suggestion sounds quite good in absence of real live bahun/pundit/pujari.

But my question still stands:

Is "BAHUN" a bad word?

Do bahuns get offended if we/they are referred to as........ bahun?

I sincerely would like to know, without malice or any ill will towards anybody.  Thanks.

All_is_well.. congrtats for new member in your family..

if you didn't find any Bahun(pundit), do as "Monkey" suggested.... further, I know one of my family member had done same thing recently. Virtual Nwaran... Its all about preserving culture, and ritual...
