If you are flying Qatar Airways, you probably should/could get a hotel room for transits over 8 hrs.....check with your travel agency and/or airline. If not, you can use Oryx Lounge for USD 40, with food/drinks included, not forgetting you can take shower inside.

I could not stop commenting on lexsmith,

Spending 17 hrs shoping in airport? lol dude, do you know what is the meaning of shopping??
When I was in kathmandu, I saw khate kids spending entire day on window shoping. They spend all day  staring  through the window of each and every shop
Do you mean that you spend your time in Doha airport like khate kids??
You must be a psycho,  who can spend 17 hrs in shopping. Go and check some psychiatric doctor

Meraj, you can check with the airlines ,they usually provide transit hotel for free. Sometime travel agencies sell tickets without these options making tickets cheap.

Quatar airways doesn't automatically get you hotel (regardless of transit hours). You need to pay AND get a visa. Make sure to contact your agent and have you hooked.

Did you check QA website? At least until last summer, QA normally provided hotel for free if you have a long layover. The only occasion I heard one of my friends did not get hotel was because he got his ticket through a travel agency that got "special fare(or something similar)"  ticket. He had to argue with few QA people to find out the reason. Other Nepali passengers in the same itinerary got hotel, he did not. If you got your ticket online through QA website, you are good.

I check their web site , it has some condition for free and it is for sale for $125. But I am not sure if I bought ticket through travel agent or online site , it will be eligible for free one or not. I think the best bet would be to buy ticket frm travel agent , and ask flight attendant to check if it is eligible for free one or not. If not buy one.. These stupid travel agents can't even tell ...what is the rule...their web site clearly says it provides in certain cases..

' I am not sure if I bought ticket through travel agent or online site' , _ you made me laugh !

First find out where you bought the ticket from.
If you have bought from a travel agent and if the transit time is 17 hrs the airline is obliged to give you hotel accomodation. Last year I travelled on Qatar and I had the same transit time. I called my travel agent and insisted on getting me lodging facility. They eventually gave me an option to choose hotel accomodation or earlier departure from Doha (meaning only 7 hrs of transit time). I chose earlier departure because that meant I could reach Kathmandu at 8.00 am instead of 4 pm ! You can easily spend 7 hrs of transit time by browsing the duty free shop, surfing the websites (available free inside the terminal) or simply napping in the seating facility provided there.

@ Adhakari_bandhu:   Thanks for sharing your experience . There are lot of smart and knowledgable  people in Sajha, that's why I love to visit Sajha for any info I need .

Actually I haven't  bought ticket yet. That's why I mentioned ""But I am not sure if I bought ticket through travel agent or online site , it will be eligible for free one or not.""  My English is not of top notch like many other people from Nepal .  I am sorry if it made you laugh , and you misunderstood it. Computers are not yet intellegent enough to check grammer. But I really appreciate your suggestion .

If you don't mind , me asking small  favor , can you please tell me name and contact info of travel agent you used last year. I hope I have put my words correctly this time.

 Meraj,

If you dont get a hotel , ORYX lounge in  the Airport is a very good option. If you have American express CC and if you qualify try to get a priority pass . It will be free and  the lounge is quite comfy.  The problem is you can't stay there for more than 6 hours normally !!!  and bad news is shower facilities  are not open because of renovations.

Have fun

 Meraj,
What is your departure city ?
If you haven't bought the ticket yet, why don't you search travel agents who provide the best transit solutions ?
Good luck.

@ Mt Kailash

Do I need to buy ticket with AmX card to use these lounge free of cost or I just need to have one of those card. I used to get bunch of offer from amex, but never applied for one. I should be able to get one, but not sure if I have to wait to get a card and use it to buy ticket or just hold it to use those priority pass/ VIP lounge benefit.

 Meraj,
You dont need to  buy ticket  with Amex. They have different type of Amex cards, You need to have a one that can get a priority pass. This  pass is very useful in fact you can use  it  in almost all VIP lounges in the airports all over the world for free. The charge will be nominal for the visitors travelling with you to use the lounge too !!

hope I answered ur query

Meraj,

Since you are yet to purchase your ticket, my first suggestion is to ask for STPC (not sure what it stands for, but refers to transit accomodation).  If I am not mistaken, QR now operates 4 daily flights between DOH and KTM.  Maybe you can request an earlier departure from DOH by paying a bit more and get home earlier instead of paying for a hotel (which is quite expensive in Doha).  What about trying other airlines?  It may be worth paying a little more in favor of a shorter transit time or a paid accomodation.  I think Etihad (via Abu Dhabi) also provides hotels for longer transits.

My personal experience with QR dates back to 2009, so it may have changed by now.  Anyways, I had purchased my ticket from a Nepali agent based in the US who mentioned the possibility of paid accomodation at Doha (I had a transit time of about 14 hrs unless I wanted to pay $250 extra for an earlier flight).  But the travel agency failed to arrange it stating that the airline denied the request.

So, I was on my way home mentally prepared to spend 14 hours in the transit lounge with little to do.  Immediately after entering the terminal in DOH, I saw the desk handling transit hotels and thought of giving it a shot.  The Nepali gentleman manning the desk checked my passport and boarding pass, and issued the voucher without asking any question.  It covered the visa, transportation, the room of course (in a decent hotel), and two meals.  I even had an opportunity to briefly walk on the streets of Doha and check out one of the souks (traditional market of the region).  So give it a shot, may work for you as well if things are the same.  Good luck, and bon voyage!

Well i did not even read all the comments but wanna share my experience of qtr like 9 months ago

I had 13 hrs transit, i didnt bother to call travel agency or airline. Before you proceed to stay on line, there was a place where bunch of dhoti s n some other foreign nationalities lined up, i forgot the name now but you can tell by name that they deal with transit vouchers n hotels stuffs like that.

I got there in line for about 30 min, i told em i need hotel to stay... They give me a voucher for one night stay at some niceass( i d say cuz that was beyond my expectation) hotel

They stamp my blue passport with temp visa, i got out, met a nepali guy offering me Surya churot...i caught their shuttle bus, n went to hotel.

After brief shower n refreshing, i made a coffee n read their menu. There was this stupid bar at 10th floor where i spend my 2 hours n 250 bucks. I went to dinner where i met these 7 nepalese guys from aus n usa... Planning to go some outside club. Shortly i joined with em & some indian cab driver took us to a best club he says after listening what we were expecting. Lets not get there what happened in club, it was neat, nice, clean & yummy :p

I went to pretty much same thing on my way back to us. Now if i ever go back again, i d take quatar airlines & request at least 12 hr transit :p

Best trip ever, Beat that :p

My suggestion, donot go staight to immigration line... Once you pass that point you cant come back, i guess i m not sure.. you got to make sure you got the voucher before you get out.... There are some nepali guys standing there to help you as well, if you cant figure out.. Ask em' where you'd get your voucher for hotel n let em know you have more than 12 hrs trAnsit !!

good luck n have a safe journey !!!
