Wow... it's been 2875 days since my last post, almost 8 years.

Anywho, life's still going on as usual, just showing some signs that I'm not as young anymore. ;)

I got GC on 2011 and planning on getting citizenship in a year.
However, few questions:
1. My Nepalese passport expired but I don't plan on visiting Nepal this year. As there is no dual citizenship for Nepalese (stupid Nepalese law), should I still renew it with the new MRP system?

2. If I renew it, will it be helpful if I go to Nepal later and to visit India from there as I can show Nepali passport if needed?

3. After US citizenship, is there any privilege for former Nepalese citizens while visiting Nepal or it's completely same as other foreigners on visa costs, length of stay etc...?

Thanks for comments from those with at least some experience.

I got US Citizenship quite a while ago so I don't remember the details, but you might have to submit information of your Nepali passport when you are applying for citizenship. I am not sure if you will need to have a valid passport. In any case, if you don't need a valid passport to apply for US citizenship then there is no point renewing the passport.

There is no point in using the Nepali passport illegally after you get your US passport. How much would you even save by doing so? I recall a thread about someone who used Nepali passport to fly to Nepal to save the visa fee. But when the time came to come back to the US, he was unsure of how to use his US passport since his Nepali passport didn't have visa to the US. It's not worth keeping it.

There is not much priviledge for ex nepali citizens except for the fact that you will be able to get prolonged visa for 10 years for about $500. I forgot the term for it but you can even engage in some business with that card.

Good luck

Thanks for comment.
The visit to India part came in mind not due to cost but as convenience and that's also while driving back and forth from Nepal since it's open border for Nepalese.
The last time I went to India from Nepalgunj, nobody even checked any id in either direction but that was 20 years ago.

BTW, what's the hold up on dual citizenship?

Thanks for comment.

According to lawyers' replies here, no need to renew passport of home country for US citizenship.

There is just that simmer of hope that if there will be dual citizen law later on, having a valid/current passport may be useful. :(

PS: I'm not sure why Sajha replies and posts twice for the same reply/post.
