Guys

I need some advice from you:
I am graduating in the summer and I am in F1 Status. My major is Networking (BCIN) and I need a few advice and where better than our own Sajha, I know you guys have been there done that, Please give me some advice

I get a OPT for 1 year rite?
I know this Dhoti Consultancy who are telling me that I should train there and they will get me H1? Should I believe them and train with them. I know no one who has been at that consultancy.
What are the chances of gettin H1?
If I do get H1, How much tax do I pay every month?
I have also heard that computer related OPT can be 24 months as well.

Please advise what I should do next?
I live in Pittsburg, PA

thanks for yor time...

MustaineKoFAN,

Congratulations on graduating - Good Job

Now it is a time for you to start looking for a job. don't wait until last minute unless otherwise you want to feel sorry for yourself. I hope you have some ideas about the current job market . there are hundred and thousands of applicants available for a single freaking job and to get a job you should be able to stand out in a big crowd.. Be smart and act accordingly, make a decent resume and start hunting a job. Life is all about taking chances and trying so you never know what you gonna get.

Now let me answer some of your questions-

I get a OPT for 1 year rite?

Yes you do but you can enjoy your one year OPT only if you landed a job within 90 days of your OPT start date. the 90 days time period is cumulative. this means you can not stay unemployed more than 90 days in  one year OPT time period. there are ways to save your status- you can do volunteer job in a related field.

I
know this Dhoti Consultancy who are telling me that I should train
there and they will get me H1? Should I believe them and train with
them. I know no one who has been at that consultancy.

I don't like the idea of joining consultancy cuz they suck big time. Try yourself first. Go to consultancy only if you have no choices.

Don't even bother about H1 unless you have a real job. H1 is easy to say ( Just two alphabet right?) but it is very hard to maintain. I am not trying to scare you but this is what the truth is. H1 is not a solution. Even consultancy will not do your H1 unless you have a job in hand. Those days were long gone.

What are the chances of gettin H1?

It would have been a better question if you had asked what are the chances of getting job? well anyway, if you have real job then you  pretty much
can get it. i am telling  you based on the current job market. But nothing is sure and guaranteed.  Good luck though

If I do get H1, How much tax do I pay every month?

I think it depends on your income - very simple -more you make more you pay.  I think H1 taxes are high.

I have also heard that computer related OPT can be 24 months as well.

It's not 24 months. It can go up to 29 months (12+ 17).   Don't come up in sajha with a idea you have heard in crowd. make a habit of little bit  researching - no offense just a suggestion. Everything is in there. Internet is nice handy tool. Use it for good.

hope this helps

Good luck

Thanks lmao and Sarekekodimag,

I was just sharing my personal experience. I have been through all that consultancies and shit. only thing i can say is keep trying. I believe everyone will
eventually get fair share of their hard work if not everything.

I was graduated with very decent grade and had couple of years experience back home. I tried to find a job myself for almost 3 months after graduation. I almost made it but was not that lucky. then joined consultancy just to save my status, took training , enjoyed free food and accommodation about 4-5 months. But i was doing what i was supposed  to do. I was keep looking for a job myself.

Then i decided to leave consultancy due to frustration and moreover didn't have money to pay credit card bills , phone bill, so and so. Then started to work in a Subway but didn't give up my job hunting process. after a week i got a job on my own.

Got a job started working then what? I had only 7 months remaining OPT. My employer didn't know about my status. Actually  my company don;t do hiring process directly. They do it through other recruiting company and what happened was the recruiting company gave my employer false info. The recruiting company told my employer that i can work as long as contract last and i am good to go (I knew it yesterday when i was there to ask my employer to sponsor H1) - i guess i was lucky bastard. I was sacred to death to tell them but had no options so i did tell em. I explained them about the possibilities luckily they agreed to help me. they enrolled in e-verify and helped me to extend my OPT.

Yesterday he quite frankly told me he would have never hired me if knew that all these shit in the beginning.  But now he is quite happy to have me. he likes my work, he likes me as a person.
Now again  my OPT is not going to long last. I told him i need H1 sponsor if you want to have me and now he is ready to do it. so you need to focus on getting job first

...............
