I was very shocked to hear that. Amazing! 9 months into presidency and he has achieved that much to get the Nobel Prize. Very stupid! Nobel committe jumped too early.

It is a surprise to OBAMA fans. Unlike other Nobel prizes, Nobel peace prize is not always free of controversy. I think, this Nobel peace prize to Pres. Obama would be controversial too but would not be as controversial as some others in the past.

It seems the Nobel peace prize nomination committee has been impressed by Obama before he was elected. They have bet on him with the hope that he has potential to contribute in future. Until now, he has done nothing except talking blah blah. Seeing Obama talking a lot without any solid delivery, I started to feel that Obama might prove to be a joke in near future. Occasionally I think, what is different between Nepalese leaders and Obama? Nepalese leaders also know how to talk but do not know how to work. So far, I don't think Obama has shown sign of bringing the change he promised long before. I hope Obama would be able to show he is able to work not only talk. Then, that would be good for all, including the Nobel peace prize.

If Obama rejects this prize at this time, he would be remembered forever. I think, everyone would welcome his decision to refuse a Nobel peace prize. Isn't it? What do you think guys?

No_quiero i believe you belong to the group who thinks afganistan is obama's vietnam war. You can't bring peace in the places you mention over night... He is trying thats all it counts and CT he talks a lot that what world needs at this moment. Someone who can give hope and encourage. Not to forget US economy is way better than it used to be. So we can't say he hasn't done anything.. Just give him some time and yea i was surprised abt nobel peace prize going to obama but admit it nobel committee aint stupid. I believe they are smarter and more educated than any of the sajha users. They must have considered something to make em take that decision.

I was surprised too but then I asked - who could be 'more deserving' than Obama? I could not think of any. I ask the same to all skeptics. I am gonna accept the decision (not that my denial is gonna matter anyway).

Nobel peace prize is given on the basis of what he has done....not on the basis of what he might do.

I does not take a rocket scientist to say he don't deserve a nobel prize.  And that to PEACE????
Thousand of people are still killed in Transition, and thousands are killed in Iraq. He has nothing so far to solve Palestine-isreal conflict. This award is nothing but a farce.

He deserve to win noble  SPEECH price not the peace price.

I guess this announcement has completely devalued the importance of noble prize.

What have obama remotely done as much as  Morgan Tsvangirai  in recent times.

Obama's administration is still in more than one Bloody War at this
time, HOW CAN HE DESERVE NOBEL PEACE PRIZE? This is Unfair and
Satirical. This is an insult to Nobel itself. Obama is actively involved in
More Than one War as the Commander In Chief as he is receiving PEACE
PRIZE.

dude you are missing the point.. none of the war you mentioned is his war. you have any idea if he just withdraw all american troops from the war, what will happen? and you are saying he hasn't done anything yet? he took initiatives to reduce nuclear arms, sort things out with the Muslim
world and stress diplomacy and cooperation."Thousand of people are still killed in Transition, and thousands are
killed in Iraq. He has nothing so far to solve Palestine-isreal conflict" i have a question do you have answer how to solve that problem over night. forget about you, does anyone have an answer for that? He is trying and i believe thats what nobel committee considered before awarding him with the nobel peace prize. Just out of curiosity. who do you think should deserve the nobel peace prize?

I just got inside information on why he received the Nobel prize. Sources close to the white house has revealed that Obama was suffering from a mild depression after his effort to bring the Olympics to Chicago failed. It was a big blow on his presidential ego. In order to easen the blow, the international committee decided to award him the peace prize lest he lash out on the international community to sooth the blow received by his ego.

Michelle Obama did not have any comments.

I think it is the mockery of the award. on one hand he is commander in chief of two ongoing wars in the world which is killing thousand of people......and on the other hand he receives the prize. He might pull out of iraq, afganistan; that is all in the future.  But on current context it is ludicrous.

Now he has got the award, i hope he justifies it.

It seems to me that Obama will send more troops to Afganisthan and he will have his more troops killed ... the war will continue for another decade. I would like to see Nobel Prize Committee coming up with another title called "Nobel War Prize". Obama may deserve "Nobel War Prize" next year..

Obama is the first US president to travel all the away to Denmark and appear before the Olympic committee to request for the Olympics-16 in Chicago. Despite his plea, the Olympic-2016 will be in Brazil.

Next, every body was shocked by the news that President Obama bagged this year Nobel peace prize for his "extra-ordinary ability" to bring a vision and hope at the beginning of his presidency.

Does he really deserve the prize? or it just a "soothing" to the Olympic committee's decision?

Snowfed_river, you are right. But, even Bush knew he was unpopular with the wars, he stand  with Immigrants and want to pass immigration reform.

But this Mr. Obama, he is so scare, even though he himself is half immigrant, to touch the immigration issues. This person looks for himself first, and whoever is ok ..lean towards them.

Now that a sitting American President has been declared the N Peace Prize winner, the Talibans and the Al Qaeda must be even more pleased as the war efforts might tip toward the defensive versus the offensive. For instance, if you happen to ask Al Gore about what he thinks of the Peace Prize win for Obama, Gore might quip "An Inconvenient Prize".

In his acceptance speech, Barack could thank big W for starting the wars without whom this Prize could have never come to fruition.

Every year I realize that winning this botched but monetarily most generous prize gets more and more unjustifiable . All you have to do is speak up or write something in the favor of the NATO allies. A few things you can do is to become a Chinese dissident (Note that, this year multiple Chinese dissidents were nominated) , write against the Iron Curtain, become a Tibetan activist, become the head of state of a militarily powerful country who can re-shape the world political landscape in the next few years etc.

You know your next door neighbor might have done more for peace than the actual winner of the Nobel Peace Prize. For the record, five or six persons out of 6 Billion get to quantify who has contributed most to peace in the past year. They must be damn-well eating walking f'cking encyclopedias to know so much about each person and his/her work.

(Before they change it let me use for the last few times.)
