The concert sucked!!! I completely agree as I was present there. The band babywah mentioned was booed out because of their disrespect to organizers and audience. The audience lost patience when a band member started smoking on stage... Cool Bob Marley looks, not so cool attitude. . Why do the band members forget that it is ANA concert and the audience comprises of people of all ages?

Bahywah...before you show the door, ponder on the fact that why only one band was booed out??????

Yes, Its true that the concert was not well organised. But when the Sports committee came to the stage to felicitate the players, that band Zulu or something, they behaved really badly. If they wanted the audience to appreciate their music then they should have appreciated the hard work of all the players that were present there. On top of that they started to smoke on stage. And they didn't even had the guts to face the audience!!!!

After this fiasco, the singer of the group who came after made the whole show horrible. Looked like as if they are hungry for the stage.

BUT Deepak Bajracharya is the real entertainer and truly professional. Kudos to him. Hope he will do some more shows.

My analysis of ANA Dallas convention for whats it worth.

What worked:
Venue: Nice hotel, especially the patio. People could go to the patio and chill and not just hang out in the lobby.
Expos and stalls were gave Nepalese businesses and other organizations to showcase their products.
Sports: Sports events were well done although I did not go to all of them.
Meeting friends.

What was ok:

The cultural night: Too long. I think any convention organizers should learn that they should keep it short ( my idea of short is 2-3 hrs) and not let every Tom Dick and Harry go up on stage. Screening is ok. ANA cultural program need not be like an American Idol audition.

What did not:
The concert on Sunday:
The concert was very badly organized. First of all, it was scheduled to start at 9 pm. It started after 11 pm. That's late even for Nepali style late. I paid 25 bucks to see DB and wouldn't have minded watching a couple of local acts but I ran out of patience after watching people bungle thru their instruments after almost each song. When DB showed up at what 1 am or 2 am?, he played only 5 songs although I enjoyed his performance.

The sound system sucked too. It would make even good musicians sound bad.

I think those 2 guys with big afros did the right thing by kicking the MCs out, who out of the blue wanted to hand out prizes for the sports announcer. People were already getting irritated by the display of utter lack of any organization and on top of that they decide it was good time to hand out prizes while people were tuning their guitars... and besides this a musical program. c'mon folks.

I think the players would have liked a little bit more respect and recognition than that...the banquest would have been a nicer time where the players could have been better recognized.

Overall, it was a huge disappointment. Totally a waste of time. I would have left but in a strange way, I made it a personal challenge to stick it out. It was a personal test of patience and perseverance for me and I passed.. :) I stayed there till the end.

my 2 cents.

I was at the show too, but I dont think it was that bad. Yes, the sound set up was not up to par, and the people in the back probably were not hearing very well, but the ones in front were having a great time. The Zulu something guys play good, but they had utter disregard for the audience, and that came back to haunt them. The band that came after them did really well given the circumstances to glue the audience back in. And of course Dipak gave an awesome finale.

hey k dude...u are absolutely right....i understand the hard work that the players had to go through to win thier trophies..n its absolutely unfair for the mc's to try to hand out trophies while someone is scheduled to perform....the only reaction that got me was from the crowd....but like u stated the whole thing was a joke......hope next year it won't suck so bad...

Thanks Nepali Kaanchi...

When I said "overall", in the last paragraph, I actually meant to refer to the concert, not the convention as a whole.

It surely was a waste of time and money. Saving grace was, of course, Deepak Bajracharya. He did entertain the crowd and he seemed to be the only performer who understood the essence of time. The management of the night was absolutely incompetent.

Furthermore, the organizers did not show any respect for the audience or Deepak Bajracharya. They kept on going with the junk music until 2AM and finally, the featured performer showed up. That was pathetic failure of the organizing committee and extremely agitating to all who were present. I wonder what the organizing committee was thinking (or were they even thinking?).

Besides, Karma Band had the stage time of more than an hour and half whereas the featured performer (DB) hardly had an hour. Where in the world do you see this kind of program management? I guess only in Dallas ANA.

I can understand that a lot of time and effort goes into organizing one of those event. But the concert execution was simply unacceptable and gave Dallas organizing committee a very bad name... Heard a lot of poeple saying that the concert management was one of the worst in the ANA history.

guess who was the band manager of Karma Band?
Answer--One of the organizer of the concert.

they even didn't highlight that Deepak was coming to sing.
Karma was rocking the Dallas crowd only.
I know they are also good but they should have at least shown some respect to Deepak.
many people were waiting to see him.
Karma performed as if that was the only show for them.

Actually the the crowd was alreday rocking from the beginning after momom song or dalli resham song when there were some dancing on the stage.

Anyways yes the management was not good.
They haven't seen other conventions.
They learnt a lesson.

the whole ANA was a sad story. Looks like all they cared was to raise money out of it. I don't understand the purpose of doing registration beside getting money out of it. I'm sure at least 90% of the people didn't do the registration.
The mofos didn't even have any coustesy to invite Deepak Bajracharya and the keyboardist to the banquet. Don't even ask about lunchs and dinners, not a single day they offered any meals. Deepak ws lucky that the keyboardist was from dallas that the kheirey drove around for practices and other things.
My friend played at the concert night. He was gonna play 3 songs but they wanted cut it down to only 1 song. When my friend asked how come karma band gets to perform more than 10 songs, the guy said that the karma was very tight band and very good. How can the mofo camare bands like that when they've already promised my friend 3 songs before he came to dallas.
Dallas ANA comitee sucks big time.

coolnepali, I agree with you that the organizing committee learnt a lesson but the sad thing is they did so at the expense of the audience and Deepak Bajracharya. Worse thing is they are not even apologetic; at least I have not seen any official or unofficial message from the organizing committee. The program started at 2am for god's sake...

ANA as an organization should dictate guidelines around some of these programs. Otherwise why should we all it ANA Convention? Participation may decrease drastically, otherwise.

I'm still not over the fact that the Dallas organizing committee took the audience and the Deepak Bajracharya for granted. It was very nice for DB to come and sing at that late hour. If I would be in his place, I would not even bother to show up at the stage at that time. It shows his professionalism.

Above all, I don't think the organizing committee should have any excuse as we have seen some very well organized programs in recent history of ANA conventions. They could have consulted with previous organizers if not use them as resources. They just took us all for granted which is extremely disrespectful...

The concert was definitely the biggest letdown of ANA Convention Dallas 2005. In fact, even the DJ party on Friday night was a joke. When people are being charged $15 per person to attend a DJ event, they could've easily hired a pro DJ for the night - instead they had wannabe fantoos calling themselves DJs who didn't even know how to mix music. If any one of you reading this msg was one of the DJs in Dallas - hope you realize how bad you were and that you have no idea what it takes to be a DJ - get the freakin' crowd involved and play some continuous music. These fantoos were stopping after every song trying to decide what to play next .. what a joke!

The concert night was horrible. Apart from the show starting two and half hours late, the sound system was utterly bad. We could barely hear the vocals. To add to the misery, the band called something karma from Dallas kept on playing whatever they could. It was more like a house jam for their friends who were right in front of the stage - how about the other 1000 people who had paid to attend the show? And the frontman for this band was obnoxious - his voice was mediocre and his constant dancing on the stage was irritating to say the least.

I was patient enough to wait for Deepak Bajracharya - when he got on the stage, half of the crowd had already left. He finally revived the crowd and made my 25 bucks worth it. I hope this Dallas band learns from a pro like him and what it takes to be a great singer/entertainer. Also hope the ANA Executive team does a better job next time and draft guidelines for entertainment events so that the future organizers do not play around at other's expense and let amateur fools spoil the entertainment.

I have read all of your comments, if so, of course you guys felt the worst ANA convention. Was there any good program besides Ravi L. , sarangha's and others ( Sat night) culture show.....? , in fact, ANA convention of 2002 and cultural show in DC metro always best, anyone has any comment?
What about game, did anybody return with no teeth from long star state?
One of my friends phoned me that there is Chautari restaurant, people enjoyed eating Nepalese food and watching DVD inside the Restaurant, those were better protocol of enjoyment than hotel marriott Convention. I know Marriott dream is just like Muta ko Tato (warm of pee). Someone from TX had planed to invite me to do DJ in Houston, and gave me the sweet dream of Marriott in Jan2005. How come I forget the dream of Marriott that cowboy gave me few months ago through sajha..........( the topic was The Arlington Night was the Best Night). The dream of marriott is not the Nepalese dream, Nepalese people dreamed the professional and well management, once they were invited across the nations including Canada and other countries....... it was not a joke....... it was not something like your comparison to ANA with the Nepalese gathering at North Lake College that has been organized by Nepalese people of Irving vicinities.
