The banquet and concert were held at the same hall. Initially, the concert was supposed to start at 9:00 PM but it got moved to 10:00 PM. The plan was to end the banquet at 8:00 PM, allowing 2 hours for concert setup, which did not happen.

The banquet did not wrap up until 8:30 - 8:45, allowing very minimal time for stage setup. Everything got rushed, audience was let inside after DB's sound check, at that time none of the other bands had a chance to setup their sounds, and they were not ready to perform. That is why each band had to test the sound right before they played. That could be intimidating to the audience but that was necessary to make the sound just a little better. All bands did their best under the circumstances that night. Without a good sound setup, even the best performers seem crappy.

The concert hall was booked until 1:30 AM, and by the time the first band started it was already very late and everybody had to be rushed in order to finish off by 1:30 AM. Somebody decided to add the sports trophy distribution during the concert which took away several minutes. It was impossible to get every remaining band on stage and get done by 1:30, so the organizers bought another hour, until 2:30 AM from Marriott. That is the reason why bands were rushed in the beginning to wrap up quicker and bands that came on stage at the end had more time to perform.

Deepak Bajracharya came to Dallas with his Keyboard player. I heard that the other band members were not able to get visas. He arrived just a few days before the show and they had to find musicians to fill in for the missing members. He did just that, practiced for few days and performed a great show. Musicians not familiar with DB's music, did their best and crunched as much as they could in few days of practice sessions. They managed to perfect all the songs that they practiced. My kudos to those guys.

Another fact that added to the havoc was the lack of cooperation from DB's drummer (not the original drummer from DB's band). He refused to use the drums setup by ANA and he inisisted upon setting up his own drum kits. On top of that he did not allow other bands to use his drums. So, the sound system had to be setup on totally two different sets of channels. One for DB's band and another for the rest, which also added to the inconsistency in sound and took away a lot of time. There was really two different mixes setup for the entire concert and even though the sound engineers did their best, they forgot to close a few loop holes due to the lack of time. That resulted in less than a perfect sound mix.

I am not trying to blame any individual or group, I am simply giving you information that you may not already have.

I agree with Babywha................ If someone didn't like something then they could have walked out, no one was holdng their hand and begging them to stay and watch the show, they could have came back when DeepaK B started playing............

What's up with the MC ??? If he introduced the band (Zuloo) to the croud and then when they were setting up everything he/she stated distributing the trophies......... what the heck, if they wanted to give out the trophies they could have done it either before of after the band started playing not while in between............ Doesn't he/she have respect for anybody ??? Just because he/she hosted last year and this year ANA doesn't mean he/she is all that. He/she is just a regular human being like we all are, he/she doesn't need to act superior to others, especially to his/her own people (nepali). I don't know what's his/her problem is and I don't care either, it's none of my business.......... Hopefully it won't happen again...............

Peace Out..............................

Some more things we should know about this concert that everyone is mad about.
a) The 'organizer' was chosen about a week before the concert because it was not even certain if Dipak B. would be able to make it. His visa request had initially been turned down. He finally managed to get the visa, but then it was only him and his keyboardist, Jivan. The "organizer" was then chosen because only he could make something out of that chaos. while we should all appreciate the fact that Dipak was resourceful enough to make it a succesful show, we should also know that the organizers did not have enough time to prepare a show around him.
b) Dipak only wanted to sing 6 songs, because he did not have his band with him, and did not have enough time to practice with the 'new' guys who volunteered.
c) Initially Marriott had wanted to shut this down at 1:30pm, so the organizer had to ask some of the performers to cut down their number of songs, but later on, somehow they persuaded them to stay till 2:30 am.
d) Karma was asked to stay on stage for at least 45 mins because Dipak would only be able to cover 30 mins with his songs, and the crowd was throwing cups and beer bottles at the previous bands. They were concerned that the crowd would get outta hand and Dipak would not even come on stage as a result.

I know the show could have been so much better, and I agree the price of the ticket did not justify the show, but as someone who knows a lot of these "internal" things, I think
it is good that we all know what happened.
I am mad at myself for expecting too much out of the show, and paying 25 bucks and standing in line to get in. But I also happen to know quite a bit about what happened ( I knowsome of those guys in dallas)

BOO WOO. ANA was incompetent. These are all execuses. Every yr there is some problems. ANA could not even help DB to get a visa in time. There are all incompetency of the organiczers.

ANA should be held realiable from now on if they cannot deliver what they promised for. How long these associations will give a hue a cry after every failure.

Everybody knows about the poor management @ concert. And also the concert Organiser who is also the manager of the band Karma was after promoting his band so he doesn't really give a sh*t for other artist who flew to Dallas at their own expenses just to show their talents. He was just cutting everybodys time so that his fu*king, good for nothing band get plenty of time to perform their boring songs which definately made the audience walk out as they lost their patience. Andazification and 72ndstreet Band did Rock the floor prior despite of the technical disturbance. And was fun watching Zulu's #1 Hair... After that everything went out of control cause of rude behavior or MC and then Zulu and award ceromony and boring KARMA..

Beside that DB was a HIT as always.

Well Everything was worst at ANA 2005 but Deepak Bajrachary who really did entertain the crowd even though more that 50% already left. Two thumbs up for Deepak.

Babesrus, your claim is NOT TRUE. Karma's band manager DID NOT organize the concert and he DID NOT cut other artists out of stage. Don't base you judgements on your lame assumptions and stop spreading rumors.

babesrus, once again you have your facts mixed up. I am telling you again that the band manager did not organize the concert. Do, check the validity of your statement with your friends in Dallas. A separate team was handed over the responsibilities few days before the convention.

Who is the manager does not matter? The fact is people pay to see DB and others were openers. THere is no execuse. The value paid for was not served. No body paid to see the wanna be freaks make the mockery of decency on the stage. If the organizers cannot deliver what they promised then they should return the money back to the audience.

Common for heaven's sake, QUIT complaining. I haven't gone to any ANAs so far, but every year I see a thread like this in sajha. Doesn't anyone have anything nice to say about the event? If it was that bad, why couldn't u have left that very moment?

I can gurantee next year, at least 90% of the complainers will be going to the next ANA and the same percentage will be here in sajha yelling out their dissatisfaction.

BTW the pics looks great, thanks San dai for posting them.

hey jackass, i am from dallas and babesrus was right about the band manager of nakali karma is also one of the organiser of ANA. By the way, to tell u the truth all they r friends and just helping them to promote their CD sell, ignoring DB, totally. And more they had booked halls till monday so what the hell they taking about the time 1:30 or 2:30. it's just a lie. The Organiser had told all the bands that they can't play english # but how in the world only nakali karma got to play english #. If they would have permitted to play english #, the Zulu band would have been so great. But, the nakali karma stole other bands name(from nepal) as well stage too.

It ain't so kool. whatchy think?

totally agree with you--am not from nepal but my husband is from nepal--this is the 3rd convention we've been too and every year it's the same--complaints galore!! just appreciate the time we got to spend with our friends who attended the convention, appreciate all the efforts of the organizers and the artists involved--no one came out there to set up for failure--they all tried their bests--they all wanted a successful convention
the crowd was unrully and uncivilized--it was a tough crowd
kudos to the organizers--that's a lot of hard work for a 4 day event--these people had their families, their jobs to attend too aside from the convention--they devoted their time and energy for over a year--that's a big sacrifice.
This is one foreign wife that was very pleased with the convention-totally enjoyed ourselves
c u guys in nyc next year!

The ANA convention 05' sucked....Just to state it in one sentence "It was a wastage of time and money." I hope the 06' convention at NYC would be much better than this!
