"can't go back to Nepal"...Why? No Oxygen there!  You want to look the same as other Nepalese in US and feel like you have achieved something in life. If that how you define yourself, I feel sorry for you my friend.

Tea,

By the looks of things, you must be a smart personnel and an educated fella, I'd urge you to consider moving back ( after working for 2-3 years ). I know its pretty easy for me to say because I have the permit to stay here indefinitely, still, I'm considering returning back to Nepal in 5 years time ( things could change, of course, marriage, family matters and what not ).

If you've got a Master's in the USA, regardless of whether you get to work in your field of studies or not, the likelihood of you working your way up in the ladder is pretty high. Thousands of Indians and Chinese have started the trend, why don't you consider it? Again, its an easy advice to give, but you being the recipient, its all up to you.

Good luck man.

Lets advise to people who are still coming. Age (20 - 30) is critical for everybody. We cant just do something ... leave it in a middle and then think to start from Zero. Be focus ....dont be confuse. We choosed to come here....we have to face difficulties. This is life. If we didnt came -- we might still be complaining back in some corner in Ktm right now. So, everywhere is same; its just you. Same name and same knowlege ... different is the way you feel. Yes, definately family will be closer. But it really dosent matter when you see them daily. Being apart from family went just right for all of us -just to feel the "truth of love" that we might have never felt staying together. This is just one great life. Live it to the fullest. Stop complaining....keep on smiling......!!! Well if you think that you can go to Nepal with the knowledge you have and the money you saved. Go for it! and be an example. Come back in Sajha and share your experience. If you dont think you can go and just wanna wait untill another JOB offer. Prepare yourself for that....be competitive....work hard to get a JOB.....dont just stay waisted and blame your furtune......You will only win a lottey when you buy tickets....nothing is a LUCK. U bring what you want yourself. You may say...buying a winning ticket is a luck. well may be but you still bought that damn ticket....you did it.

So instead suggesting you...I would rather suggest people still coming here. And I tried it so many times....nobody believe me untill they get here....well this is what it is....everybody have problems....this is life. a great life.

I am in a same boat. Strugling in here. But I will stay here untill I get what I came here for. My degree-My JOB-My dream house- fulfil my families needs- US citizenship--travel world---

Well if I couldnt make it. Then I will rather be happy what I got in this great journey.

Success is not what you got but the distance you travel to get it. Distance is "time" and Time is life. Be happy. Living is important. How you wanna live is your choies. What you got is still above 70% of the world populations dream. I think you have done pretty well. Stop Complaining........

Have a great life.

Regards.

as a foreigner, you have to be extra-extra smart to prosper in this country. if you're a mediocore in academics and nothing's working in school interms of scholorships or internships then you need to quickly give up studies as your hope and look for other options to immigrate and do business. i understand it's not easy for us to just return back, cuz coming to America is not a small thing of us Nepalis.we spend significant porton of our parents live's savings come here and pay for few years of studies. but again, if we linger around here worrying about status our prime time will go on waste. most of my friends in Nepal have secure and lavish lives than i do in the usa after more than a decade. Quag  bro, what is indefinate permit to stay in usa? you mean asylee status? you sound like you're an aslyee from cali. if you are your struggle might not be over yet bro.. it's heck of a pain sometimes to do i485... hehe and it only gives you an option to live here thats not apermit to prosper.. you need braiins and balls ;) no offense bro, it's all in jest..

damns i hate this, sound like sexy in saree, throwing shytt at my bros.. but have you all noticed that our english sucks even after so many years in the usa.. what do we learn here? haha most Nepalis inclucing me learned to mop floors and attain gastations maybe.. our academic sucks, i wonder if we even compete to pure education of Nepal and india.. no offense.. again.. just doing a reality check..

I am in the same boat, I have invested a significant portion of my life here thinking it would be a smooth sail
sadly it is not the case. Nowadays Im struggling to find answers, constantly fighting between whether to go back or to stay in US in hopes for a better life.
Kati F1 kati H1 kati asylum kati marriage ko chakkar ma lagne afai lai thaha chaina. Barsau agadi F1 ma aayera ahile samma dui jhola saman bahek kei chaina, what is it that's keeping me from going back to Nepal?
question to myself everyday, is it the fact that i will not be able to let go of my lifestyle here? my independence? money? job? it's a mystery. hopefully someone will be able to convince me.

I have not tried for the Canadian Permanent Residency but i dont think i qualify as per their point eligibility requirement. I have heard that recently Canadian Govt has put a stricter guideline on PR application requirement, i am not sure what those are, would anyone be able to shed some light on that?

Bhai bahini haru (forgive my presumption, but from the conversation thread I could surmise that most, if not all, of you are of younger age that me), if I may, let me share my thoughts with you. If you find it helpful, great.  If not, don't think twice of it.

The best way I see for any foreign student to achieve Green Card and start the supposed "good life" (note the quotes) in America in relatively short time is through academics.  Sure there are other ways.  You can get married to an American.  You can work at an Indian restaurant.  You can go through often unpredictable and lengthy H1B then EB3/2 process.  You can try your luck with DV lottery.  But if you are new to this country and just starting out as a freshman or sophomore, studying hard is the most straight forward way to move up.  Let me explain.

It does not matter where you go for undergraduate, (obviously more selective your school is, the better - but even then, it's not the place, it's what you do at that place that matters).  However, choosing your major is important.  If you major in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) subjects - humanities, liberal arts subjects, while admirable, are not that helpful for our purpose.  Your GPA in junior and senior year should be above 3.5.  You should do well in GRE.  You should also take and do well in Subject GRE.  And you should get accepted in top tier research university for PhD.

Once you attain Doctoral degree (normally takes 5 years, and most schools will allow you to go directly from Bachelors to PhD), you should have very little problem finding suitable, high paying job.  But more than that, you will be able to apply for Green Card at EB1 category.  No need to do labor certification.  You will get your permanent residency within a year or so.

This way, you have no worries over maintaining status or getting a good job or fulfilling your so called American Dream.
