Maoist has proposed Chitwan as a new capitalof Nepal. I think this would be a great proposal for Nepal since kathmandu gets all the development plans than any other part in nepal. At least some other part and its surrounding area will have some more development. Secondly, Kathmandu is so populated and polluted. The increase in land price is outrageous. I think this is a great idea for the development of Nepal.

Maoists to propose Chitwan as federal capital of Nepal; claims other parties are also ‘positive’ about it
Ruling UCPN (Maoist) party has decided to table the proposal of turning Chitwan and its surrounding areas the federal capital of Nepal at the meeting of the major political parties.
The standing committee meeting of the party attended by the establishment faction led by chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal and Prime Minister and party vice-chairman Baburam Bhattarai on Tuesday decided to table the proposal of developing the area between Daunne in the west to Makwanpur in the east as the capital city of Nepal. The federal capital will be an exclusive entity and will not be part of any federal province.
The Wednesday's edition of Nagarik Daily reported that the Maoists decided to make Chitwan and its surrounding areas capital of Nepal after concluding that Kathmandu has become “very congested”.
There has been a decision to develop the area between Daunne in the west to Makwanpur in the east as the federal capital, Maoist standing committee member Amik Sherchan said.
He said that as it has become certain that the country is going into federalism, Chitwan has been proposed as the federal capital to clear the air regarding where to build the capital of the federal state.
The Maoists are of the view that since Kathmandu has become congested due to over population, Chitwan will be very appropriate as the capital of Nepal as it also lies at the center of country with easy access to all parts and regions.
Sherchan claimed that other political parties are also positive towards the Maoist proposal of making Chitwan capital of Nepal. nepalnews.com

Nepal's growth has hindered severely due to Kathmandu remaining such a centralized capital city. It's a joke that so many govt. related issues can't get settled without traveling to Kathmandu. Decentralization would be a welcome move in my opinion, and I'd quite welcome Chitwan as the new Capital.
I was baffled to witness the sad and pathetic state of affairs when I went to Birgunj during my last trip to Nepal (first trip outside the valley). I'd imagined it being a 'developed' city, clean and what not as it's one of the major trade hubs in the country. Instead, bullock carts, dirty streets and overall a very eerie looking environment told me otherwise.

That would be a welcome move. All the pakhes who have turned kathmandu into a messy and overcrowded place can go to chitwan with the so called leaders.

Shrestha babu has merely pointed out the truth. Hordes and hordes of uneducated Maobadi types have ruined KTM's civility. People piss on the streets, paint everything with political messages and will block the streets or issue threats against anyone who question their uncouth behavior. I have nothing against people outside the valley, there are a lot of people from the jillas who have contributed a lot to Kathmandu, my problem is with the crude, unrefined , rajnitic khates (like the ones who appeared during the Maoist general strike), most of them just happen to be from outside the valley. I therefore strongly support Chitwan being the new capital so that KTM becomes freee of khate Madise parties, emale, kangres and the billion sister maha khate organisations of Maobaadi

Snide remarks aside, I was reading this relevant article on how to structure downtown of cities. Given that a lot of points in that article are for first world countries, a lot can still be taken away from it in terms of planning for the future.
In light of that, I could see that it would be easier to start anew with Chitwan as the capital. The possibilities are endless. And honestly, does it really matter if we shift from KTM? I mean KTM is an awesome city and I was born/raised there, but reality is that it's kinda hard to improve on KTM.
I think Nepal desperately needs more cities to rise up. Chitwan is beautiful, I'd love to see architechts design around its natural beauty implementing consistent and maintainable infrastructure.
While my post may be borderline utopian content, I think its not entirely impossible.

@Cacophonix: I agree with you. But think about what Nepal really needs. We are not even getting basic daily need. How can anyone coined such big issue. We can decentralise the system. There are lots of example you can see in the world, captal is different than commercial city. Government is only coining such issue which always is not favor of Nepal.
If anyone say that make New Nepal. Then Bullshit.... These people can not make constitution in time. Do you expect the prosperity of Nepal.

well ktm was more dirty when it was crowded by "frogs of ktm " itself. infact pple from ouside valley came and taught them not to take the shit infront of their house and on the road...that's what i saw .I think everyone have rights to come in the valley if they want at least they are the one who made this ktm ..ktm today ..othewise it would sound like pond full of frogs only.  My term frog here is to @sherstha_babu .

That is hardly the issue. The problem is that with the pakhey's that come to pollute Kathmandu, comes in hordes of pakhey girls, who start polluting the city even more by becoming cheap prostitutes and even trying to lure other married men to make them their concubines asking them to pay for an apartment. People like Fantush can probably associate with this and remember how they came to the city without their shoes on and later started to think they were on top of the world after reaching Kathmandu.
People outside the valley probably saw the first bathroom after they came there. What's the point in having to go to villages to live there when you have everything you need in the city. It's the pakhey's who don't have crap and brains who have to come to the city to pollute it with their ignorant and disruptive ways.
