"Some people are out there, they can not do but they only like to complain when other people are doing it."

Are you kidding me? What does it take to teach this bonehead some lesson? Anyone?

Oh Quack journalist ! You are a statistician now !

You are talking of 90% as if you did the multivariate analysis and came out with statistical significance.

Do you know something called News Agency that sells the news ? Many of a times its the agency that sells the news to different companies. Yet they quote the news source.

Yo manche Kukur ko Puchhar jastai rai'cha...dhungro khojnu nai bekar cha.

BTW, Binaj Gurubacharya who used to work for The Kantipur Post did some plagriasm and he was caught and kicked out of Kantipur Publication, because of the discussion here in Sajha. I don't think Radio Dobhan will kick you out as they don't seem to be organization of professional journalist. But you should be aware !

How would you feel if the program produced by Radio Dobhan with all the investment and pasina is copied, pasted and broadcasted by other radio service ?

My question:

Sirish, do you know this for SURE -- like 100 per cent sure -- or are you just making this up to score a point here?

Yes, there were Sajha discussions about BG's supposed acts ofplagiarism, if I remember correctly, in a couple of instances.

True, BG left Kantipur shortly thereafter.

BUT I don't think those Sajha discussions led to his being "kicked out of Kantipur Publication", as you seem to assert here.

[Believe me, Kantipur knows it has quite a few occasional plagiarists in its midst , but is unable do much against them. That's because, as any Nepali editor will tell you, finding good media talents and retaining them is so damn difficult in Nepal.]

[BG, by the way, is still the Associated Press or AP correspondent in Nepal, and his reports continue to go worldwide through the AP wires.]

My suggestion: Look, I am neither a fan nor a friend of BG. But if I were you, I would NOT jump to such conclusions about him in PUBLIC unless I have sort sort of a solid proof from Kantipur Publications.

As you friend, Sirish, I owe you this much of public nudging.

****

As for RSubedi, I, as a reader, am NOT going to lose sleep over whether he violated some copyright laws or some copyright morality. The issue is too trifle to make any coherent copyright case out of it.

So long as RSubedi did NOT make money off other people's news-gathering/ideas, and so long as his appeared to be an attempt -- even a clumsy attempt -- to share a piece
of news about Nepal with others, I, as a reader, am willing to thank him for his effort and move on.

Tetti ho, yaar.

You are right Ashu. I have no evidence to prove mu assumption of BG being removed/departed from KP because of the discussions in Sajha about his acts of plagiarism.

I was trying give an example of a possible consequence of plagiarism.

I came to this notion because of the coincidence of discussion going on and his departure(?) from KP.

Am I 100% sure? I was but not now. Thank You and I want to tell the readers of Sajha that BG's departure from TKP may not be solely because of the discussions of his plagiarism here in Sajha. There may be other reasons too !

You would know the situation better.

I may be wrong to sum-up our own esteemed Ashu-ji's opinions as:

It may be wrong for sirish to disseminate misinformation about BG.
But it may be OK for Mr. Subedi to disseminate misinformation as long as he didn't do it for money.

But if I'm not wrong, shouldn't the obligation of accountability apply to everyone? I don't mean to get confrontational or take anyone's side, but I've been noticing conflicting statements from Ashu-ji lately. In this particular case, I believe that Mr. Subedi was [perhaps unconsciously] engaged in a wrongdoing, and he should admit it correct the problem because it's not just his, but his organization's credibility is in question. Should it really matter whether he did it for money or not?

That said, someone should perhaps start a new thread on what this thread was really meant to be. :-)

Echoes,

News are out there you can read it by going to other sites. Radio Dovaan is not the only news resource you have to logon to. If there are mistakes we will imporve. It does not mean that people on the net use such a nasty words. That's not the way you duscuss and treat with other people. There is no way I can follow up and take any suggestion from those type of nasty people. They are spoiled and it tells how bad they are and there background.

While shirish may not have any evidence to present to prove his case, it is only a fair assumption to bring it as an example for rsubedi. Sajha discussion ?may have? or somehow 'contributed' to BG?s firing from Kantipur, but we don't know the truth. Guess Shirish could have used a better wording.

[Believe me, Kantipur knows it has quite a few occasional plagiarists in its midst , but is unable do much against them. That's because, as any Nepali editor will tell you, finding good media talents and retaining them is so damn difficult in Nepal.]

In other words, you will let Kantipur slide by knowing that they have plagiarized? That is a lame excuse!

And as far as rsubedi is concerned, he is just as wrong and should be held just as liable as Washington Post or NY Times for his wrong doing regardless of whether he did it for money, for fun, or sheet volunteer work. Good ethics applies equally to everyone no matter what their intentions are. I refuse to thank him for the piece of news he copied and pasted from other source and trying to lure people to his website as if its his own. No thank you!

Joe Marinelli,

We are not copying any news from outside resources. We make our own news. Probably, Other people are copying our news out there. I was just giving an example. Do not be smart here for nothing. I DO NOT NEED YOUR THANKS AT ALL. You look your attitude.

I dont understand why Mr. Subedi need to answer all these f...in posts. He has done a good job for all those who dont have much time to surf the webs like f...in india times. I guess RSS means Rastria Samaachaar Samiti of nepal..dont know exactly what it is.

Its often said that "Your right ends where my nose begins" Does anyone here has his nose extended upto India Times or what? If so, go to the court and claim your copy right please...I hope Mr. Subedi has already prepared for the answer when needed.

I smell f...in ego here rather than news stuff..

peace out !

ehehe...Well, too bad no news organization puts the whole article in the feed... Actually, technically speaking, the RSS 2.0 Specification doesn't allow for entire articles to be included in the feed... Instead, feeds ahve links to complete articles on the sources' their own site, and that's the way it should be.

whatmore--- Nice try tho ;-)

But I think Mr. Subedi has acknowledged the error, and promised to correct it...So there's probably no need for further bashing...

Ocean,

some ppls dont appreciate what you have deserved for the community. They are so jelous. They dont do and they do not want other ppl to do because they have no skills to explorer besides complaining. How can they be sure, we have copied the news and pasted. I was giving them an examples before. This might be an opposit direction. We make our own news, other medias may copy our news word to word and paste on their site. They dont even think that way, thats why I told those ppls to use common sense. Other think is they do not like the news, King sided ppls...........

rsubedi

keeping copyright , legal, moral and ethical issues aside
If you want a HUGE news hungry traffic into ur dovan website, you either have to develop a credential by writing the news yourself or giving the appropriate sources, so that, we readers can validate the credibility of the news by ourselves. As you know, internet is also full of crappy news, and you can collect what ever you want. If you give the source, it would be easier to figure out if we need a grain of salt or a whole lime :-)

Please do not argue when you know you screwed up. Accept it gracefully, every body in this forum respects that.

It is not about ego. Come on, I am sure many people posting here do not even know rsubedi in person so the question of 'khutta tanne' or whatever does not even arise. I mean why would people be bothered having one more news source in addition to hundreds and thousands of news sources?

The answer is because rsubedi is a fellow nepali and he is heading on a wrong course. Citing news source is important for journalistic integrity. What if someone starts a new website just as rsubedi has done, then puts some inciting rumor with no source but just saying 'collected by cardinal' (for example) and then people who have been used to believing all his news are factually correct believe this one too? We have seen many such cases happening including one started here in sajha itself, where an anonymous poster said that Paras shot his wife and his children. The rumor spread so fast that Paras had to actually take a 'tour' of hanuman dhoka with his wife to refute it.

I am sure people will find reasons to criticize that example so I am giving another one. What about the Hritik Roshan case? Some obscure newspaper in chitwan reported that Hritik Roshan gave an interview in BBC (which was correct) in which he said that he disliked Nepalese (which was incorrect) Then again the news spread so fast and people's response was so aggressive that not only large number of properties were destroyed but many lives were lost as well.

So my point is that journalist ethics is there for a reason. Just because you don't know about it or you are not doing it for money does not mean that you are free to trample over it. Its like driving a car in highway. Just because you are , for example, volunteering to drive a car for a charity does not mean that you can keep going on a Red Light at intersection.

So rsubedi, I want to tell you that you have done a very helpful thing by providing a portal of news but the fact is that not providing your source for your news is plagiarism and it would be best for your website's reputation and for your own if from now on you just provided the source and continue the good job you are doing. Please don't take it personally.

mr. subedi, don't get distracted, you don't have to defend yourself. although, yeah, IF you become bigger and more famous, you might want to be more careful. but so far...blah
