You are absolutely right. Buddha had a son and a beautiful loving caring wife. He had family, kingdom and many other belongings when he was Siddartha. He enjoyed all the pleasures of the palace. He had mentioned that his father had built four palaces for four seasons and all of them were filled with women servers only, not men. He enjoyed the sensual pleasure till he was 29.

Greed for the pleasure couldn't bound him when he saw the suffering. He left the palace in search of the end of the suffering. If pleasure were the solution, why would he be abondaning it?

After 6 years of hard work Siddartha got enlightened and known as Buddha, the awakened one, since then.

He found that the cause of suffering was craving for pleasure. Anybody who craves for pleasure will suffer. To end suffering one has to leave craving. This was his discovery.

He claimed that by abandaning craving he brought all the sufferings of his life to end. He taught how to abandon craving to all of his disciples, and many of them could end the suffering fo their life in his life time. If he didn't have acheived something better than the royal life, wouldn't he have gone back to palace and enjoy the life of pleasure again? Instead he lived in Jungle.

When he came back to Kapilvastu, after 11 years, his father requested him to take charge of the kingdom, but he didn't. Instead he ordained his 11 years old son. His half brother, his step mother, his wife, his half sister and 500 Sakya princes joined the order.

His technique is science my friend, it works. I am not convincing you, don't take it that way. I am just revealing the truth.

You are your own master, and you are responsible for your own actions.

It is noteworthy to mention here that Buddha was against ordaining the women. He tried as much as possible not to ordain the women. But it was Ananda who convinced Buddha to ordain the women. But that happened only when Buddha's step mother, wife and so many women from the palace marched miles and miles bare-footed to ashram here Buddha was residing at that time. While walking bare-footed, those women surely bled badly and went through tremendous pains. That's when Ananda managed to convince Buddha.

Note: Ananda was very popular among the female nuns because of his soft-spoken speeched and gentle personalities.

Nice to hear something from you after quite a while. Ya, Gautami with her hundreds of companions marched all the way from Kapilvastu (close to Bhairawa, Nepal) to Vaisali (Muzaffarpur, Bihar, India). It was 15 days long walk and Gautami was old, 80+.

When Anand saw exhausted Gautami crying in Vaisali, he requested Buddha to ordain women as well. Buddha rejected all of his three requests. Then he asked Buddha a question whether women had some deficiency to be enlightened. Buddha replied that the women were also capable to be enlightened as men.

Then Anand requested him not to stop women to learn such a wonderful technique which brought the suffering at end. Buddha agreed, but he put eight conditions. Gotami accepted those conditions and nun order started in Buddha's teaching.

Why Buddha didn't allow women in his order?

I think he didn't want Sangha get polluted and lose the technique.

After allowing the nun order he said to Anand that the later did a big mistake by making him (Buddha) to allow women in his order. He further said that the teaching would have lasted for 1000 years if women were not included. Then the teaching would last for 500 years only. His words came true, Vipassana lasted in its pure form only for 200 years after Ashoka, and Ashoka was 300 years after the Buddha.

After all man or woman everybody has to come out of suffering. Why Buddha wasn't compassionate for woman? Women shouldn't take his discission as biased. He wanted women to follow his teaching living as householders, not as nun. His teaching would have done bigger welfare to human society if it were lasted for 1000 years instead of 500.

After the demise of Buddha, Anand got enlightened and he realized his mistake. Then he apologized from Sangha.

Thankfully, we got his teaching back now. I am so obliged to those who have saved his teaching in its pristine purity. I am so obliged to him who gave it to me with compassion.

Such a scientific teaching! It gives result then and there.
Such a marvelous teaching! Anyone who practices gets the resuts.

Is pleasure different than happiness?

Sicne most of the Sajha visitors have grown up in Hindu and Buddhist tradition like myself, I will answer this question on the basis of these two schools of teaching.

Sicne I have been talking about गीता and तिपिठक, don't think that I am a religious man. I never talk about abstract things like "god", life after death, angles etc, even though I have some knowledge about those. Nothing get changed right whether I believe or not in god, life after death etc? That's why I don't talk and discuss about them. I talk what I think is reality, what I believe is reality, what I know is reality. Nothing other than reality. You can test it.

Don't take everything as religion if you see something in संस्कृत and पाली. There is a lot, a lot, a lot to be offered by these two ancient literatures. They have stored the experiencial knowledge of explorers. Those knowledes are as true as theory of gravity and theory of relativity. Test them and believe them.

I love Geeta so much, not every single veres though, but most of them. I have started to recite Geeta when I was 11/12. I don't do it anymore, so I know few verses by heart. But I know many verses where they are. I have already forgotten the following verse, however, I knew where it was. I google searached it and explaining to you for your welfare :).

This verse will answer the question at the top, whether pleasure and happiness are different.

नास्ति बुद्दि र युक्तस्य नचायुक्तस्य भावना् ।
नचाभाव यता शान्तिरशान्तस्य कुत: सुख:म्।।-गीता

If your sense organs are not under your control, you will not have wisdom.
If you don't have wisdom there is no way that you will be able to purify your mind.
If you are not able to purify your mind, there will be no peace for you.
If you don't have a peace of mind, where the happiness will come from?

Some people consider Geeta as more than 5 thousand years old, form my study I believe that it is not more than 2000 years. Does it matter? Reality is reality; truth is turth. It doesn't matter when it was discovered and who discovered. Don't discard this verse just because it was thousands of years old. Reality doesn't have any age. Test this verse, intellectually and then practically. If you find it false form your experiment then discard it. Otherwise, what you think doesn't matter. Nature doesn't follow your thoughts.

Let me explain aformentioned verse by dividing it into four parts:

1. If there is no control over sensual pleasure, you will have no wisdom.

Have you heard that the love is blind? Scientists also belive that the statement is true. They did some study on people who are in love and found that they (lovers) see only positive things of their partners. Their (Lovers) evaluating part of mind gets weaker, and they can't evaluate their partner correctly. Isn't this the declination of wisdom? What is wisdom after all? Wisdom is something that helps you to see the truth in its real nature. It helps to see things as they are. However, if you are indulge in pleasure, you can't do that. So no control over pleasure, no wisdom. This is the first part of the verse.

2. No widom, no purification of mind.

Mind get purified through wisdom only. If you can not see the truth as truth, you can't purify your mind. This is reality, whose who have been trying to purify their mind will understand this better. Wisdom of 'अनिच्चा" (अनित्य = impermanence) is the only way to purify the mind.

3. No purification of mind, no peace:

If your mind is filled up with the negativiteis like anger, hatred, passion, lust, anxiety, inferriority complex, superiority complex, ego, jealousy, fear, insecuity etc, will you be able to sleep peacefully? Will you be able to stay at a place peacefully? You will sacre to death with yourself. You need company to run away from yourself. You need alcohol to forget yourself. You need drug to sedate yourself. You need TV. You need different means to forget yourself. As long as these impurities will present in you, there will be no peace in your mind. I will write more about it later. So, no purification of mind, no peace of mind is true.

4. No peace of mind, where the happiness will come from?

रशान्तस्य कुत: सुख:म्? = मनै शान्त छैन भने, सुख कहाँ बाट आउछ?

Happy state is the peaceful state of mind. If there is no peace, there is no happiness. Geeta is not talking about the external bulk peace. Peace is individual. Negativities of the mind bring tides in the mind. Peace is the state when waves of the mind sattle down. When all the excitements of the mind get sattled, you feel so calm, so tracquil , so satisfied, free from stress, free from pain, free from tension. This is happiness.

If your mind is not peaceful, you are not happy. You believe it or not, these four are the truths.

To get happiness, you have to control your sense organs whose tendency is to roll in pleasure.This is the essence of this verse. So tell me, can pelasure and happiness coexist? Are they same?

I explain a verse of Geeta saying that you have to have peace of mind to have happiness, purified mind to have peace, wisdom to have purified mind, and control over sensual pleasure to have wisdom.

In another word:

Control over sensual pleasure cause wisdom, wisdom cause mental purity, mental purity cause peace of mind, and peace of mind cause happiness.

I am emphasizing this point because it is contradictory to what most of the people think that the pleasure is happiness itself.

PLEASURE IS OF COURSE PLEASENT but IT BRINGS TIDES IN MIND.
HAPPINESS IS THAT STATE OF MIND when ALL THE TIDES ARE SATTLED DOWN

They are not only different but opposite. To have happiness pleasure should go away.
